Searching for award seats can sometimes be a frustrating process, especially for folks who are new to our hobby!
Learning to squeeze the best value from your miles and points (even which cards to apply for first!) takes time. But you can still get Big Travel with Small Money without knowing all the tips and tricks.
I’ll show you 2 credit card sign-up bonuses that will get you $1,100 in Delta flights without searching for award seats. And without hurting your chances for getting other valuable cards!
Why Delta AMEX Business Cards Are a Good Idea
Through July 6, 2016, the American Express Delta credit cards have increased sign-up bonuses!
Plus, you’ll earn a $50 (Gold card) or $100 (Platinum card) statement credit when you make a Delta purchase within the first 3 months of opening your account.
You can apply for any of the 4 Delta credit cards. But American Express small business cards are a good idea because they do NOT appear on your personal credit report. So getting the Delta Gold Business Card and Delta Platinum Business Card won’t impact your chances of being approved for valuable Chase cards later.
And don’t hesitate to apply for a small business credit card just because you don’t own a giant corporation! Lots of folks can qualify for a business card without even realizing it. And you can apply as a sole proprietor using your Social Security Number.
Many of y’all may be involved in business activities already.
- Buying and selling goods online for profit
- Airbnb host
- Regularly selling items from your home (yard sales, Craigslist, etc.) or regularly have a booth at a flea market
Remember, you can only earn the sign-up bonus on American Express cards once, per person, per lifetime. But you can now have up to 5 different AMEX credit cards at a time. That limit does NOT include AMEX charge cards like the Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express.
How to Save Money Without Searching for Award Tickets
Link: Delta Pay With Miles
Delta offers an option called Pay with Miles. You can use Pay with Miles to redeem Delta miles at a rate of 1 cent per mile to pay for (or discount) the cost of Delta flights. This is a good option for folks who don’t want to deal with booking awards, or who don’t have flexible travel plans.
This perk is ONLY available if you a Delta American card. This includes the Delta Gold AMEX (personal or small business), or the Delta Platinum AMEX (personal or small business), or the Delta Reserve Credit Card from American Express.
Signing-up for the Delta Gold AMEX and Delta Platinum AMEX small business cards will earn you 114,000 Delta miles (after completing the minimum spending requirements), or $1,140 in Delta flights (114,000 miles X 1 cent per mile = $1,140).
Note: Remember you can only redeem Delta miles increments of 5,000 miles ($50).
To use Pay With Miles, you must book on the Delta website. Only Delta and Delta connection operated flights are eligible (not partner flights). And you must redeem for paid flights in 5,000 mile ($50) increments.
You Can Do Better With Your Miles!
You can do whatever you want with your 114,000 Delta miles! Delta Pay with Miles is a good way to avoid the hassle of searching for open award seats and instead discounting the ticket you want.
But taking a bit more time to search for an award seat can save a LOT of miles!
You can almost book 2 award seats for the price of 1 Pay with Miles seat. Now THAT’S Big Travel with Small Money!
For a limited time, you’ll earn a total of 110,000 Delta miles with the combined sign-up bonuses of the AMEX Gold Delta small business card and the AMEX Platinum Delta small business card after completing minimum spending. That’s enough for $1,100 in Delta airfare when you use Delta’s Pay with Miles.
Folks just beginning this hobby should take notice of Chase’s new rules for approving credit card applications. Applying for American Express small business cards will not impact your ability to get cards from Chase. Because they do NOT show up on your personal credit report.
Delta Pay with Miles is good for folks who want to keep it simple and skip searching for available award seats. But you can get MUCH more value if you have some flexibility by booking award seats instead!
