And another 7,500 bonus Marriott points when you add an authorized user who makes a purchase within the 1st 3 months of opening your account – enough for an award night at a category 1 Marriott!
I’ll show you 5 hotels in the US to book with Marriott points!
5 Excellent Marriott Hotels in the US for Award Stays
Marriott made positive changes to their loyalty program last year.
And remember, you’ll get the 5th night free on any award stay! So if you want to stay longer, it’s an excellent way to save points!
I like using Hotel Hustle to find hotels for award stays because it shows you how many points you’ll need for your specific travel dates. And show you if award nights are available at hotels, including Marriott!
Another option is AwardMapper. It shows similar information. But it’s not specific to travel dates and won’t search for available award rooms.
I haven’t personally stayed at these hotels, but they look terrific! Let me know if you’ve stayed at any of them!
Note: The prices in these examples are based on travel in June 2016 except where noted.
Note: Some Marriott hotels (especially resorts) add pricey resort fees to paid and award nights. Before you book, check the hotel policy to decide if it’s worth it for you. And here are my tips on how to avoid them!
Marriott hotels include:
- AC Hotels by Marriott
- Autograph Collection Hotels
- Bulgari Hotels
- Courtyard by Marriott
- Delta Hotels
- Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott
- Gaylord Hotels
- JW Marriott
- Marriott Executive Apartments
- Marriott Hotels
- Marriott Vacation Club
- Moxy Hotels
- Protea Hotels
- Renaissance Hotels
- Residence Inn by Marriott
- Springhill Suites by Marriott
- TownePlace Suites by Marriott
Note: There are rumors that starting April 2016, Chase will make it tougher to be approved for ANY of their cards (including airline & hotel cards) if you’ve opened ~5+ credit card accounts with any bank within the past 24 months.
So I recommend folks 1st sign-up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred. Here’s why. But if you already have the Chase Sapphire Preferred or don’t want it, consider this offer for the Chase Marriott Premier. Or the other Chase cards in Hot Deals.
1. San Francisco Marriott Marquis
The San Francisco Marriott Marquis is located near The Mission neighborhood in downtown San Francisco, with easy access to every part of the city, and walking distance to lots of shopping and restaurants.
The hotel overlooks Yerba Buena Gardens, which has great views of the city and is bordered with coffee shops and art galleries. Take a break here with the locals!
Two nights cost ~$673 or 80,000 Marriott points So your 80,000 Marriott point sign-up bonus is worth close to $700 here!
2. Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa
The Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa is situated on 5 acres next to world-famous Waikiki Beach in Honolulu. Perfect for folks who like to surf, swim, or dive! And it’s walking distance to the Honolulu Zoo, which could be a fun day trip for the little ones.
If you like to hike, it’s also near Diamond Head Park, which has great views of the city at the top of the trail.
Folks on TripAdvisor love the beachfront location and staff here! A friend of mine raves about Sansei, the sushi restaurant in the hotel. She highly recommends the panko crusted ahi sashimi. In fact, she says it’s so good you may have even dreams about it!
Nights here cost ~$334 plus a $30 daily resort fee, or 40,000 Marriott points plus a $30 daily resort fee.
Resort fees are common for hotels in Hawaii, so be sure to look for them! Here are my tips on how to avoid, or at least anticipate them.
Every room here has a balcony, so you can watch the sun rise or set over the Pacific Ocean. And you can dine or hang out next to the pool if you need a break from the surf and sand.
3. JW Marriott New Orleans
Nights at the JW Marriott New Orleans cost ~$380 or 40,000 Marriott points per night. It’s located on Canal Street, right next to the French Quarter, and a block away from lots of shopping on Magazine Street in New Orleans.
Reviewers on TripAdvisor rave about the staff and service at this hotel.
And when you redeem your 80,000 Marriott points here, your points are worth ~$760! Keep in mind hotel prices in New Orleans can vary a lot with the season. So depending on when you travel, your points may be worth even more!
4. New York Marriott Marquis
The New York Marriott Marquis has a fantastic Times Square location, which is perfect for a 1st (or repeat!) visit to New York City.
On the subway, you can easily get to any part of Manhattan to see attractions like the Freedom Tower, shop in the city’s countless boutiques, or try any kind of food you can think of (or find your favorite slice of New York-style pizza)!
This hotel costs ~$519 or 45,000 Marriott points per night. So you can treat yourself and loved ones to a ~$1,000 hotel stay in a fantastic location when you redeem 90,000 Marriott points here.
Remember you’ll earn 7,500 Marriott bonus points when you add an authorized user who makes a purchase within the 1st 3 months of opening your account. And at least 3,000 Marriott points when you complete the minimum spending requirements, which would give you enough for 2 free nights in New York!
5. The Hi-Lo, Autograph Collection
The Hi-Lo, Autograph Collection is a brand new Marriott hotel scheduled to open in June 2016. So this summer you’ll have another option when you visit Portland!
It will be located near the Willamette River harbor in historic Old Town. That’s near downtown and the Pearl District, a fun neighborhood filled with shops, restaurants, and nightlife.
Nights here in September 2016 cost ~$423 or 40,000 Marriott points. So the 80,000 Marriott points you’ll earn with the Chase Marriott Premier card welcome bonus are worth ~$846!
Other Card Offers
Remember, you can also get the Chase Ritz-Carlton Rewards card. You’ll earn 2 free nights at any Tier 1 to 4 Ritz-Carlton hotel, after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the 1st 3 months of opening your account.
Marriott and Ritz-Carlton are basically the same frequent-guest program (just with different branding and marketing), so you can use your Marriott points to stay at Ritz-Carlton hotels and vice versa.
The $395 annual fee is NOT waived, but it comes with perks and benefits that can easily offset it, like a $300 annual travel credit (which includes reimbursed Global Entry fees, checked luggage, and seat upgrades).
If you like Ritz-Carlton hotels, it’s a fantastic card to have. Here’s my review.
Plus, earn another 7,500 bonus Marriott points when you add an authorized user who makes a purchase within the 1st 3 months of opening your account.
There are lots of excellent Marriott hotels right here in the US where you can get Big Travel with Small Money! 80,000 Marriott points are enough for 2 nights at Marriott Category 8 hotels, like the JW Marriott New Orleans, or The Hi-Lo, Autograph Collection, scheduled to open this summer in Portland.
Let me know your favorite Marriott hotel in the US!
