You’ll Need to Call American Airlines to Book Your Flight

There are no fees to book over the phone because these awards cannot be booked online.  But you’ll still pay an extra $75 for award tickets booked less than 21 days prior to departure.

You can also book at the airport or at a ticket office, but you’ll pay a $35 fee (and $45 for international destinations at a ticket office).

You May Be Able to Get a Better Deal

If you’re booking a short-haul flight (less than 1,150 miles), you can save by using British Airways Avios points.  That’s because you’ll only pay 7,500 British Airways Avios points each way or 15,000 British Airways Avios points round-trip on partners American Airlines and Alaska Airlines.

And remember, even though very short (under 650 miles) partner awards flights in the US have gone up in price, you can still save Avios points on round-trip award flights by using this trick.

Bottom Line

If you’re an American Airlines credit cardholder, you could save up to 7,500 American Airlines miles on low-level American Airlines award tickets to select cities.  This deal is good when you book by March 31, 2016, and travel by May 31, 2016.

  1. Thank you for this article! I was able to book my mother a trip to visit family in Florida! I was able to take advantage of the 7,500 mile-discount on the round-trip. I have searched the AA site and it was only through your article I was able to get to the correct page! I phoned in with my AAviator MasterCard in hand, and the representative got me into a great flight and waived the fee since there is no way to book this online. All in all, I wouldn’t have gotten this trip without your RSS-Newsletter!
