Hate Waiting? Citi Has Made Improvements to Cut Hold Times When You Want to Book a Hotel Stay With Your Citi Prestige Card

Some folks didn’t like the process of booking their hotel stays through the Citi Travel Concierge.  Previously, Citi would connect you to a 3rd-party service who’d take down your information and call or email you back within a day or two.

But now, when you call to book, there’s no more waiting.  Perfect if you’re impatient like I am (although meditation helps a lot!).

Booking directly cuts out phone transfers, long holds, and having to wait for an email reply or phone call to book your room.

So you can take advantage of this perk – the 4th night free on paid hotel stays – even faster than before.  That saves you time and money!

Perfect for a last-minute getaway, perhaps to 1 of our country’s beautiful National Parks!

The Citi Prestige has an excellent sign-up bonus of 50,000 Citi ThankYou points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the 1st 3 months of opening your account, worth $800 toward flights on American Airlines or 1 of its codeshare partners for international travel. (EXPIRED.)

Along with other terrific perks, you’ll also get the 4th night free on paid hotel stays when you book through the Citi Travel Concierge.

Get the 4th Night Free and Stay Longer on Your Beach Vacation With Citi Prestige! Plus Enjoy an Annual $250 Airline Credit, 3 Free Rounds of Golf, and Many Other Awesome Perks

And it can be at any hotel that can be booked by their travel agency, Carlson Wagonlit.  This includes most chain hotels and lots of boutique hotels in places all over the world!

There’s NO limit to the number of times you can use this benefit.  And you’ll receive points, stay credits, and elite status perks at the hotel, just as you would if you booked directly!

You can also save on airfare with the $250 annual airline fee credit.  And golfers get 3 (or more) free rounds of golf per year through July 23, 2017.

The annual fee is $450 (not waived the 1st year), but the benefits can far outweigh the annual fee.  That’s why thrifty folks like me don’t mind paying it!

Bottom Line

Citi has improved the hotel booking process for folks with the Citi Prestige.

Now, you book directly with Citi Travel Concierge instead of a 3rd-party service.  That saves you time and makes it easier to enjoy the 4th night free on paid hotel stays, 1 of the best deals in travel.

I’m always glad to see positive improvements, especially to a card with so many other great features!

  1. I believe they are now using Aspire Lifestyles (Citi’s concierge service) at 561-922-0158. I didn’t think the previous workflow was so bad. In any case, great card, great benefit.

  2. Can I book for someone else using my Prestige? and get 4th night free?

  3. @Mark R – I think you can also still call the number on the back of your card, too. And I agree, the 4th night free is a fantastic benefit!

@RNP – The 4th night free benefit only applies for the primary cardholder, so the room would have to be under your name.

  4. So how does it work? You tell them the website you are on, and the rate you’re getting, and they book that for you? I’m confused as to how this whole thing works.

  5. @Jad – That’s 1 way to do it! They’ll match any publicly available rates you find on a hotel’s website.

Or you can ask them to recommend a selection of hotels for you within a certain price range, distance from where you want to be, star rating, etc.

They generally won’t match rates you find on sites like Travelocity or Orbitz (or other OTAs). Make sure you look on the hotel’s own website for prices.

  6. Does this apply only to hotel chains ? Or Will I be able to book any smaller hotels ? I am interested in this card but many of the places I travel to do not have big name hotel chains.

  7. @ Daraius

Thanks so much for the reply! 🙂

I’m new to this credit card reward travel, and really just started exploring it 3 months ago when I ran into your blog! My wife and I are going to Hawaii next week with points from UR to Avios.

I must say, I’m completely addicted and have read a ton of the articles that you have written. We’re currently trying to get our companion pass now as well 🙂

One more question, if you don’t mind, but we don’t have any hotel credit cards at the moment, but we are planning on travelling at least 5 or 6 times this year with our Companion Pass. What hotel credit card would you recommend for us who are just starting out with this hobby? Thanks again!

  8. @Sen – Yes, you can book small or boutique hotels, too. Many, but not all of them are listed here:

You can also call Citi and ask if a particular hotel you’re interested in is on the list.

    Hope that helps!

    @Jad – Hmmm…that’s a toughie.

Personally, I like Hyatt because they have hotels in places where I like to travel. And the points are easy to earn from Chase Ultimate Rewards transfers.

I’d recommend looking at the hotel options in the places you want to visit. If you see a certain hotel chain more than a few times, go with that one.

Otherwise, go with the 1 (or 2!) you think will match with your travel goals for the near- and long-term. Or pick 1 whose points you think will be easiest for you to earn.

Thank you for taking the time to read and to comment. I hope you enjoy your trip to Hawaii. That sounds wonderful and fun! 🙂

  9. I just went to use this benefit for the first time today, having gotten the card back in Dec. and when I mentioned to the Citi rep that I understood they were using Carlson Wagonlit, he mentioned that they actually no longer do and had brought it in-house as of last Friday. Was about to offer you the heads-up tip to that effect, but your crack team is ahead of me with the news again! Anyway, the process did seem to flow smoothly, and I may post an update if I go ahead with the booking and it seems like it would shed any light on things as they are now. But it’s good to know that as always MMS is on top of fast breaking developments.

  10. Love your blog. Learned so much from you. Question on this topic, I recently called them and booked a Hilton stay and added my HHonors account. Reservation showed up in my Hilton account immediately but I never received an email confirmation from Citi Concierge. They used to email a PDF of the booking with language confirming the fourth night credit I will receive. I called back and a different representative said she cannot find record of my booking in their system. In that case should I make a new booking to make sure I do get the fourth night free? Thanks a lot.

  11. I got a quote from CWV via Concierge last Fri, attempted to book on Mon, only to find out they switched to Aspire Lifestyle with a much higher rate than the first quote I received from CWV. I was very upset.

  12. @Scott – Thanks for keeping us in mind. And for reading! 🙂

Let me know your experiences. I’d love to hear about them!

@Zac – Hmmm, that sounds odd. Perhaps if had something to do with the changeover? If the rate you booked is still available, maybe you could try to cancel and re-book to be on the safe side.

If Hilton confirms your reservation, that’s the most important part. Citi can always credit you retroactively if they genuinely made an error. But I’d recommend trying a fresh booking if you can.

And if you can’t, I wouldn’t worry about it much if it’s showing up on Hilton’s side.

Hope that helps. Thanks for reading, Zac! 🙂

DT – They should be able to match any publicly available rates. And unfortunately, they can go up or down a lot in a few days. 🙁

Hope you can find a good price for your stay!

  13. I am booking two rooms at a hotel for my family. Two separate reservations, each 4 nights each and each in my name, but of course the dates will be the same for each. Can I get the 4th night free on each room?

  14. @John – My understanding is you can book 2 rooms at the same hotel for the same dates. But you’ll only get the 4th night free on 1 of them.
