Miles & Points Interview:   Traveling With the Morgans

Adam and Elizabeth started Traveling With the Morgans to share and document their travels.

The Inside of the Colosseum Is So Much Fun to Walk Through.  Do This With a Tour Guide So You Can Learn Everything About It and Skip the Long Lines.

How and when did you start collecting miles and points?

We 1st started collecting miles back in 2013, by signing up for the Gold Delta Skymiles American Express card.  We knew we wanted to travel more, so this was the 1st step to figuring out how.

Why did you start your blog?  What’s special about it?

We started our blog to share our love for travel.  Our blog focuses on helping couples travel more.  We’ve found that a lot of couples could travel more if they knew some travel hacks.

St. Thomas Is Our Favorite Island in the Caribbean to Visit on Cruises.  We Love Going to Magens Bay, Saint Thomas, and Stopping at Places Like This for Amazing Views

What’s the one single thing people can do to get more miles?

Instead of spending money and getting no rewards, sign-up for an airline credit card and receive miles for each dollar you spend.

What’s your most memorable travel experience?

On our honeymoon in Kauai we did a dinner cruise along the Na Pali Coast.  It was amazing to see the Spinner Dolphins jump out of the beautiful blue water with the coastline behind them that is not accessible by car.

What do your family and friends think of your miles & points hobby?

Truthfully, some of them were amazed that we used miles to buy flights to Paris, while others couldn’t understand why we would put everything on credit cards just for the miles.  We’ve now inspired some of our siblings to start earning miles themselves.

Is there any tool or trick which you’ve found especially useful in this hobby?

The best thing to do for this hobby is to make sure you get the bonus miles for spending a certain amount when you sign-up for a rewards credit card.

At the time, we received 30,000 Delta miles for spending $1,000 on purchases in the 1st 3 months on our Gold Delta Skymiles American Express card.

Delicate Arch is in Moab, Utah, at Arches National Park. The Delicate Arch Hike Is 3 Miles Round-Trip and Pretty Easy.  The Arch Is 65 feet Tall and Well Worth the Hike

What was the least expected way you’ve earned miles or points?

Rewards Network was the least expected way we earned miles.  We go out to eat anyway, so it made sense to sign-up for the dining program and earn 3 miles per $1 spent.

What do you now know about collecting miles and points which you wish you knew when you started out?

We wish we knew about shopping portals sooner.  We needed to buy a new travel backpack, so instead of buying it in the store, we bought it online when there was a deal going for 15 miles per $1 through eBags (offer no longer available).

This Is the Library of Celsus in Ephesus, Turkey.  It Was the Most Unique Place We’ve Ever Visited.  We Had a Hard Time Focusing on the Tour With all the Cute Feral Cats Living in the Ancient City Though!

What would your readers be surprised to know about you?

We love holidays almost as much as we love traveling, so we buy a Christmas ornament from each place we visit.  At the end of the year, we reminisce about our vacations while decorating the tree.  We love doing this!

Any parting words?

Traveling doesn’t have to be expensive like most people think.  When you take advantage of earning miles and looking for deals, you can go on many vacations!

  1. Fun to hear about your Christmas ornament tradition……my wife and I do the exact same thing! Makes this time of year extra special, thinking about the past trips and then talking about future ones! Thanks for sharing.

  2. My favorite travel memory is the one we are making right now in Laos. The people in this country are so gentle and kind and the food is the best!

  3. I always buy a fridge magnet, inexpensive, easy to pack and get home . Lots of local handmade ones and a daily reminder of wonderful times.
