This week, I shared the terrific news that you can save big with Discover & Apple Pay at many more stores than we previously thought!

You may even be able to save up to 22% or earn 23X miles (which you can deposit into your bank for an effective 23% cash back) on your AT&T and T-Mobile phone bill!

With Up to 23% Off Your Mobile Bill and More, There’s Big Savings on the Line!

I’ll explain how it works!

What’s the Deal?

When you make in-store purchases using Apple Pay with your Discover it Cash Back or Discover it Miles card, you can earn 10% cash back (on up to $10,000 in spending) through December 31, 2015.

This is a terrific deal, but it gets much better if you’re a new cardholder or previously registered.  That’s because the cash back you earn gets doubled at the end of your 1st year.

Here’s how it adds up:

  • 22% cash back on regular purchases with the Discover it Cash Back (1% cash back + 10% bonus = 11%, doubled after 12 billing cycles)
  • 30% cash back on up to $1,500 in spending per quarter in bonus categories with the Discover it card (5% cash back + 10% bonus = 15%, doubled after 12 billing cycles)

Apple has a list of major stores where Apple Pay is accepted.  But I’ve found the list extends way beyond that to just about any place with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology!

The information for the Discover it  Miles card has been collected independently by Million Mile Secrets. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer

How to Save Big Your Mobile Phone Bill

You can find stores near you with NFC terminals by using:

While I Was Using the MasterCard Contactless Merchant Tool, I Found Several AT&T and T-Mobile Stores in Austin Which Accept Contactless Payments

So I did some digging and spoke with an AT&T corporate representative as well as my local AT&T and T-Mobile stores.  They said AT&T and T-Mobile are rolling out NFC terminals to stores around the country, but it’s not available everywhere yet.

The AT&T Store Near Me Accepts Apple Pay, Does Yours?

Use the MasterCard tools for a local AT&T or T-Mobile store.  If you find 1, it’s worth dropping by to see if you can pay your bill in-store with Apple Pay and your Discover it Cash Back or Discover it Miles card, to save up to 22% or earn 23X miles on your cell phone bill!

And if you want to get the most of this deal before it expires on December 31, 2015, you could ask to prepay several months in advance.  Or pay wireless bills for friends and family and have them reimburse you.

Or Earn 22% Back on Your iPhone Purchase!

The representative I spoke to at AT&T said you could sign-up for a new iPhone 6 or 6s (the newer phones that support Apple Pay) and only pay the tax in-store.  The balance is added to your AT&T account, which you can pay off in 12, 18, or 24 months.

But you can pay the entire balance off after your 1st billing cycle with the new phone.

So in theory, you could sign-up for a new phone, install Apple Pay and add your Discover card, then pay the phone off at the AT&T store after your 1st bill comes in and get 22% off the purchase price (before December 31, 2015).

I have NOT tried this myself.  But the representative said he didn’t see why it wouldn’t work.

Bottom Line

You can save $2,000+ by using Apple Pay to make purchases with your Discover it Cash Back or Discover it Miles card by December 31, 2015.

Apple has a list of major retailers where Apple Pay is accepted.  But I’ve found Apple Pay is accepted anywhere there’s an NFC terminal like, many small shops or local restaurantsThis includes certain AT&T and T-Mobile stores.

You can use tools like the MasterCard Contactless Merchant Search page and the MasterCard Nearby App to find out if your local mobile carrier has a store near you with NFC technology.  And you may want to give them a call to find out if they accept in-store payments.

I haven’t tried this myself, but let me know in the comments if it works for you!
