But there’s a way to earn 40,000 Southwest points with half the spending!

Better Offer For The Chase Southwest Plus Card 40,000 Southwest Points With Less Spending

ONLY Use This Offer for the Chase Southwest PLUS Card, NOT the Premier Card, If You Want the Most Points!

You’ll earn 40,000 Southwest points when you spend $1,000 on purchases within the 1st 3 months of opening your Chase Southwest Plus card.

This isn’t as much as the 50,000 point offers that come around every few months or so, but those offers require double the spending!

And here’s something to watch out for!  Do NOT use this offer to apply for the Chase Southwest Premier card!  That’s because another offer is still available to earn 50,000 Southwest points on that card.

However, it requires $2,000 in spending within the 1st 3 months instead of $1,000.  So only use this offer if you want less spending, and know that you’ll earn 10,000 fewer points!

Here’s a look at what all 3 Chase Southwest cards currently offer:

The Chase Southwest Premier personal and small business cards are a better choice for folks who travel outside the US because they do NOT charge foreign transaction fees.  And they come with a higher annual bonus of 6,000 Southwest points (worth ~$75 to ~$86 in Southwest flights).

But the Chase Southwest Plus card may be a good option if:

  • You’ve already had 1 or more of the other cards
  • You would prefer to pay the lower annual fee of $69
  • You want to spend less to earn the points

An added benefit to all 3 cards is you can save money shopping through Visa’s discount program.

  1. … The normal bonus right now is 50,000.

  2. Thanks Darius! I need about 30,000 points to earn the companion pass, this will get me there.

  3. Other than the fact it’s a “new and diluted” version of the Southwest Plus card, not sure why you would even bother with the post about the 40K deal, as it seems markedly inferior to the 50K deal. (not that long ago the Plus card also came with the periodic 50K deals) Sure, you need to spend 1k more, pay $30 more for the annual fee, but then you are 10K closer to getting the companion pass.

  4. Is this an ongoing offer, or is there a deadline? Also, what are the requirements for a companion pass? Don’t you have to earn the points in one calendar year, so it would be better to apply for the card (and another) after Jan 1?

  5. Nancy: 110,000 companion pass qualifying points in a calendar year. If you get the card now, and make sure not to meet the spend requirement until 2016, then apply for another card, say a 50k bonus, you’ll just need another ~17k in points after getting those sign up bonuses and spend requirements. This isn’t too tough to do if you try, but keep in mind the sooner you get the pass, the better, since you will have the pass through the end of 2017.

  6. What are your thoughts about Chase offering different bonus offers for the Southwest Cards. from the historic offers of 25,000 at $1K or the bonus offer of 50,000 at $2K?

Do you think that they may be testing to see if they get enough interest at the 40,000 bonus that might then make the Companion Pass that much harder to reach?

  7. Do you know when this offer expires?

  8. On Southwest site the only offer they show for 50000 is the Premier Business. But under your hot deals link the Premiere Personal version is still listed as a 50000 point offer. Will Chase still honor 50000 on the Premier Personal as of this date with your link. I have a couple of friends looking for that offer.

  9. @Larry a couple of weeks ago, I just googled the 50000 mile bonus Premier Personal card and found a link to it. I would make sure the link shows the 50000 offer before you apply.

Thank you for sharing these offers! My husband and I don’t have a small business, so it’ll be a little harder for us to earn the companion pass. But that makes your tips all that much more valuable. Incidentally, from my searching the net, it seems like 1800 Flowers has offered points deals in February in the past. Is there any indication that will happen this year? Thanks again!

  10. If anybody wants a referral for the 50,000 points for the Southwest Rapid Rewards PLUS card you can email me at bluejay155 (add @outlook.com)

This is the perfect time to apply if you want the companion pass for 2016 – 2017.
Right now Chase isn’t offering 50,000 points unless you have a referral. These points do count towards the companion pass. I will receive 5,000 points for the referral so you will be helping me fly more as well. THANK YOU.

Thanks and good luck earning the companion pass!

  11. I have email referrals for the SW 50k Premier credit card if anyone needs one! 2k spend in the 1st 3 months/$99 annual fee. You can email your 1st name to parkermama1612 at gmail. It can take up to a week to receive the email from Chase. Thanks so much! 🙂
