  1. When looking for a hotel I look for a hotel near the sit seeing area, can hold 6 people, the price and amount of points needed for redemption when redeeming with points. I have 4 children all under 7 years old plus my wife, so I need to make sure the room can fit 6 people.

  2. 1. Price
    2. Location where lots of vegetarian food choices
    3. Mattresses should be nice fof better sleep
    4. Cleanliness
    5. Big bathroom

  3. Amenities!

  4. VeniceBoardwalk

Butler service. Sometimes one just needs a butler to run one’s bath. Thanks to living the hobby, I have been able to enjoy this luxury in my rather abundant life 🙂

(I’m posting this a second time as my comment did not post the first time)

  5. My favorite hotels employ wonderful staff who want to go out of their way for their guests. No haughtiness but genuineness. A location within walking distance to the center of what I’ve come to see and I also try to seek out a romantic hotel that has a pool (if at all possible). A chance of an upgrade is always nice and if I can use points that is even better.

  6. Location and amenities are primary, but atmosphere and style can have significant secondary sway. Travel on!!!

  7. Location first, brand second.

  8. Christopher Conroy

I look for promotions and deals, then free breakfast.

  9. In hotels I am look for the best hotel that located close my activities and has the best amenities. Good products are always a plus. :).

  10. I look for a hotel that my points will fly me to and will pay for my stay in a location that will expand my memory book!

  11. Over the years, I found that small things matter to me the most when choosing a hotel. Sure, cleanliness and location are great, but nowadays, those are easy to find. What’s hard to find are hotels that are still consumer-centered. Small things like accessible outlets by the bed and the desk, good shower with strong water pressure, or a coffee pot and a mini-fridge without any weight-sensitive pre-stoked items. Those things maybe insignificant in a grand theme of things, but they sure make the rest or work (whatever the purpose of your trip) that more enjoyable.

  12. convenient location, good reviews, and award availability!

  13. Location is always the most important factor.

  14. Three things make for a great hotel: location, comfort, value.

  15. Parking and internet fee status for guests

  16. Free breakfast and location.

  17. Free breakfast

  18. The “wow” impression on first view of the property, lobby and room ….

  19. Location, price, status benefits.

  20. The one thing I always look for is a good ranking for the hotel on Tripadvisor. If they are ranked poorly then I’ll make different arrangements elsewhere!

  21. I mostly look for prices if I’m not able to use points

  22. When choosing a hotel I read the reviews and look for comments related to impressions of the staff, hotel cleanliness (e.g. mention of bed bugs knocks them off the list!), and proximity to nearby attractions/stores so I can buy reasonably priced water for my stay 🙂

  23. When we choose the hotel we look for:
    -able to use points
    -comments from previous guest
    -free breakfast

  24. Clean; well located; attentive staff; a balcony with a lovely view; a coffee maker in the room

  25. Ability to gain or use points!

  26. Location, location, location! Close to attractions.

  27. With four kids – a pool and complimentary breakfast are usually a must for us.

  28. location, location, location

  29. I feel like I get a better feel of the culture of the new city or mountain town when I’m exploring on foot or by bike. So, location of the hotel is the difference between having a good vacation or a great vacation for me!

  30. Somewhere I can get a good deal – hopefully a Hyatt!

  31. Location, value, and breakfast; Yum.

  32. I look for the name Hilton of course!

  33. Location, value and breakfast. Yum.

  34. I first check the hotel chains that I have an elite status in. Then whether that particular location honors it. Because elite status usually equals to elite treatment and facilities. Well, except for mandarin oriental. 🙂

  35. Points, points and points

  36. I look for value, location, trip advisor comments and if I am redeeming points then is it available?

  37. Convenience and loyalty program perks

  38. Comfortable beds, good wifi, good value.

  39. usually location is the most important factor, but there are sometimes we plan a vacation around a property itself. Then we look for their facilities, offerings, and outstanding service reputation.

  40. A balance of location and price.

  41. We always look for interesting places and activities for our 16 year old triplets. Sometimes it’s the location, other times it’s the hotel itself.

  42. It’s all about the little things and having staff that love the job and pleasing the clientele….if they are happy…then we are happy and receiving all that special care and service…no matter the cost, brand or size.

  43. No bedbugs and not too close to the airport!

  44. Price and location at first. Rating and review of hotel of safety and service. breakfast is important as well as wifi availability.

  45. i look for location, safety, and special views.

  46. We are definitely not the type of people who say “who cares about the hotel, I’m never in my room anyway”. We DO care about the hotel. We like a nice room, good service, maybe free breakfast or cocktail hour in the lounge. And if possible, a room with a view. We do spend time in the room, every day! Enjoying the ambience, our morning coffee from the in-room coffee pot, taking a break in the afternoon, maybe a nap or a bubble bath. Room service or just a relaxing evening away from the hustle of a busy travel day. It doesn’t have to be the fanciest hotel (but that’s nice when we can splurge, with points of course!). A good hotel is a big part of our travel enjoyment (and isn’t that what travel is all about?).

  47. I know what I’m getting depending on the Hilton brand I choose…consistency between properties.

  48. The criteria in order of importance: location, value, contemporary, clean, sufficient room lighting, and wifi.

  49. Top 5 things I look for in a hotel

    1. Location
    2. Ratings
    3. Price / Option to use points / Value of points earned if paying
    4. Availability of a good breakfast at or near the hotel. I like to take full advantage of time and that means a great start to the day.
    5. The intangible – is their anything unique about this hotel that will make it a special memory – where the hotel becomes part of the vacation experience – not just a room.

  50. I look for a good value with free breakfast if possible and beach front is an extra bonus!

  51. Location is important, price point and internet. 🙂

  52. I sort a list of hotels on tripadvisor by ranking. I start with the highest ranking hotels I’m willing to pay for. If it has the right amenities and location I read the 1 star reviews. If the complaints seem to be nit-pickers and rare issues I’ll read some of the 5 star reviews to get a better feel of whether I like the hotel or not.

  53. the pool, the view and the location

  54. Location, price, ability to use points. Must be clean with decent beds. We check for bedbugs no matter what hotel!

  55. I look at what points I have, and where I can use them.

  56. Late checkout so I can sleep in!!! ZZZzzzzz

  57. The view from the room

  58. Always looking for food amenities whether a kitchenette or free breakfast options to save big money while travelling.

  59. I target hilton hotels with nice lounges. Thus save on afternoon entertainment and dinner

  60. I look for hotels close to the night life with a fun pool scene.

  61. We usually like to get as close to the city action as possible, instead of staying at a resort.

  62. I usually like to try and find a hotel that has a restaurant within walking distance.

  63. Since I have young kids, I look for a good pool for them. Bonus if the hotel has a spa for me.

  64. I’m pretty simple. As long as there is a good family atmosphere, friendly staff, and decent location, I’m happy.

  65. Location, breakfast, value

  66. I always look for a centrally located hotel, close to the sites or activities I want to get to. Thanks!

  67. First I check if the room will be free using points, then location. I also consider freebies – breakfast, internet, package promos.

  68. I look for sth special that I wont enjoy in a normal hotel stay – typically a nice spa area. Fingers crossed!

  69. Location, Location, Location!

  70. I look for a hotel you recommend!!! @darius

  71. Free WiFi a MUST

  72. Jennifer Everett

    Clean, comfortable and reasonably priced.

  73. I like to pick a hotel room that has a kitchen. We have kids and some times it get expensive to dine out every night

  74. free wifi and free breakfast are the most important things for me and my family. that’s why we love hampton inns. very predictable and dependable.

  75. The newest hotel in a 15 mile radius. That and obviously whatever frequency program i’m chasing.

  76. I like to look for location and safety!

  77. All hotels have something unique to offer, however what really differentiates them are the Customer Experiences, and thats exactly what I research for when looking for one.

  78. Good reputation. Cleanliness. Great service. Amenities. Luxury.

  79. I always look for hotels near public transit and hotels that have some local flavor.

  80. Value and location .

  81. When looking for a hotel, we look for –
