I want to transfer my Citi ThankYou points to Hilton. But is it better to transfer my Citi ThankYou points to Virgin Atlantic 1st, because Virgin Atlantic miles transfer to Hilton at a 2:3 ratio?
Will I get more Hilton points this way?
It’s better to transfer Citi ThankYou points directly to Hilton. I’ll show you why!
How Can You Use Citi ThankYou Points?
The Citi ThankYou points you earn with cards like the Citi Prestige and the Citi ThankYou Premier can be used to book flights, cruises, hotels, and rental cars through the Citi Travel Center at a rate of:
- 1.6 cents per point (if you have the Citi Prestige card) when redeemed for American Airlines paid flights
- 1.33 cents per point (if you have the Citi Prestige card) when redeemed for travel on other airlines
- 1.25 cents per point (if you have the Citi ThankYou Premier card) when redeemed for airfare, hotels, car rentals, and cruises
But you’ll get more value from your Citi ThankYou points by transferring to airlines and hotel partners like:
|Citi ThankYou Points Airline Transfer Partners|
|Asia Miles (Cathay Pacific)||EVA Air||Etihad|
|Flying Blue (Air France/KLM)||Garuda Indonesia||Malaysia Airlines|
|Qantas||Qatar Airways||Singapore Airlines|
|Thai Airways||Virgin America||Virgin Atlantic|

Rich wants to use his Citi ThankYou points for stays at Hilton hotels. And some folks like to transfer their Virgin Atlantic miles to Hilton because you’ll get 1.5 Hilton points for every 1 Virgin Atlantic mile.
But Rich will NOT benefit from going this route. That’s because you can transfer Citi ThankYou points directly to Hilton at the same rate!

You’ll often get more out of your Citi ThankYou points by transferring them to airline and hotel partners. And if you want to use your points for stays at Hilton hotels, you’re better off transferring them directly to Hilton instead of going through Virgin Atlantic.
That’s because you’ll get the same ratio of 1.5 Hilton points for each Citi ThankYou point you transfer. Plus, you’ll save yourself quite a bit of time!
