The usual sign-up bonus on this card is 50,000 Hilton points.  With 10,000 extra Hilton points, you can get:

And because this card comes with Hilton Silver elite status, you’ll be eligible to get the 5th night free on award stays!

How Does This Card Compare?

I recently let you know about a better offer on the Citi Hilton Visa.

The Citi Hilton Visa also does NOT have an annual fee.  And right now you’ll earn 75,000 Hilton points when you spend $2,000 on purchases within the 1st 3 months of account opening.

The sign-up bonus isn’t as high on the AMEX Hilton card, but it earns more points overall.  You’ll earn 7X Hilton points per $1 spent on stays at Hilton hotels with the AMEX Hilton card instead of 6X Hilton points offered on the Citi Hilton Visa.

Better Offer 60,000 Hilton Points With The AMEX Hilton Card For A Limited Time

The Citi Hilton Visa Has a Better Sign-Up Bonus, but the AMEX Hilton Earns More Points Overall. You Can Get Both If You Can’t Decide!

And you’ll earn 3X Hilton points per $1 spent on all other purchases with the AMEX Hilton card.  The Citi Hilton Visa only offers 2X Hilton points per $1 spent on other purchases.

So if you plan on using the card a lot, you’ll earn more Hilton points with the AMEX Hilton card in the long run.

And if you stay 4 times at Hilton in the 1st 3 months of account opening or after spending $20,000 on purchases in a calendar year, you’ll get a boost up to Hilton Gold elite status, which is good for free breakfast and internet, and upgrades when space allows.

Note:   Starting this month, all guests will get free Wi-Fi at Hilton hotels if they book their stay directly through Hilton.

Keep in mind that you can get both cards because they are offered by different banks!  Between the two cards, you can earn 135,000 Hilton points!

My Favorite Hilton Card

With the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve, you’ll earn 2 Weekend Night Certificates to use at nearly any Hilton hotel.  This is a really good deal!

I like the Big Travel I can get with the 2 Weekend Night Certificates.  They’re great for expensive hotels you ordinarily wouldn’t pay for, or for special occasions!

Save ~$1,250 or 95,000 Hilton Points by Using Weekend Night Certificates at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island!

For example, you can save ~$1,250 or 95,000 Hilton points per night by using your 2 Weekend Night Certificates at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island.

So you may consider the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve instead of (or in addition to) the AMEX Hilton card!

Don’t Forget the Perks of AMEX Cards!

If you don’t already have an AMEX card, consider the perks and benefits you can get from them.

AMEX frequently has fantastic AMEX Offers, and you can sign-up for them with the AMEX Hilton card.

You can also sign-up for free 2-day shipping and returns from dozens of merchants with a complimentary Shoprunner membership.

The past few years, AMEX has offered statement credits on AMEX cards for Small Business Saturday.  I love this perk and hope it returns this November!

These perks can add up to save you a lot of time and money!

Bottom Line

Through September 30, 2015, there’s a better offer on the AMEX Hilton HHonors card.

You’ll earn 60,000 Hilton points after spending $750 in purchases on the card within the 1st 3 months of opening your account.

Keep in mind you can only receive the sign-up bonus on AMEX cards once per lifetime, and that it’s usually NOT possible to get more than 1 AMEX card per day.

The AMEX Hilton card is good to have because it offers many built-in AMEX perks.  The sign-up bonus isn’t as good as the 75,000 Hilton points offer on the Citi Hilton Visa, but it earns more Hilton points for your other purchases.  As always, do what’s best for you!

Emily and I won’t earn a commission if you apply for the AMEX Hilton card, but we’ll always tell you about the best deals!

  1. I earned the sign up bonus for the Amex Hilton Surpass. Can I still get the bonus for this Amex card, or are they considered one product by Amex in terms of issuing out sign up bonuses?

  2. @Dale, they are two different products, I have personally earned bonuses from both of them.

  3. newbie, so sorry if my question is pedestrian!
I am assuming I can get the bonus on either the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve OR the Citi Hilton Visa, but not both since they are both Citi cards. And the AMEX Hilton HHonors card should be OK to be added on top of one of the Citi options.

  4. I just activated my card with the 40 K bonus. Any chance that American Express will give me the 60 K? How would I go about requesting it?

  5. Amex almost never matches higher bonus offers. You should of course try, but most datapoints will say that they (unlike Chase) will not match.

  6. If I recently got the bonus on the Citi Hilton Visa, am I able to apply and get the bonus on the Citi reserve in the future?
