Million Mile Secrets reader, Angela, commented:

I got the Wyndham Rewards card recently and the bonus should be posting any day now.  I’ve already noticed that beginning in January, almost all higher end hotels will not be available for “Go Free” award nights.

That is a bummer because I wanted to book now for February.  On FlyerTalk, they do say that the all-inclusive hotels won’t be participating (as some were to begin with).

I’ve also noticed that a lot of their hotels are not participating in the “Go Fast” program.  If all you can use your free nights for are low end hotels, who will want the card?

A few months ago, Wyndham made changes to its rewards program.  They announced all hotels could be booked for 15,000 Wyndham points.

But there’s been some confusion surrounding this new program.

With Wyndham Rewards, you can now book hotels for 15,000 Wyndham points per night (Go Free) or 3,000 Wyndham points plus cash (Go Fast).

Wyndham hotels include:

This is an excellent deal if you if you can book more expensive Wyndham hotels with just 15,000 Wyndham points.  And you can quickly earn the points you need for 2 to 3 award nights with the Barclaycard Wyndham Rewards cards.

But it will now be more expensive to book their budget hotels.

But Are ALL Wyndham Hotels Really Included?

Angela is having difficulty booking award stays at Wyndham’s top-tier hotels.

If their high-end and all-inclusive hotels aren’t included, this isn’t such a great value.  So what’s the deal?

All-Inclusive Hotels

Folks on FlyerTalk mentioned they couldn’t find available award nights for Wyndham’s all-inclusive hotels.

A Wyndham representative responded saying these hotels are excluded:

All inclusive resorts do not participate in the Wyndham Rewards Program.  If you require assistance in locating a property or would like to book at one of our Tryp hotels, please contact Member Services at 1-866-996-7937 and an agent would be happy to assist you.

But then they said they were included:

Sorry for the confusion, all-inclusive hotels do qualify for the Go Free rate of 15,000 points per night.

Can you please private message me the dates that you were looking at the below hotels so we can further research why there isn’t availability for the Go Fast rate of 3,000 points per night plus cash?

Confusing, right?!

So I did a quick search for award nights at the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach in the Bahamas and they were available!

I Found Award Nights at the All-Inclusive Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach for Only 15,000 Wyndham Points per Night!

But I’m not given the option to book the Go Fast rate of 3,000 Wyndham points plus cash.

High-End Hotels

Similarly, folks mentioned on FlyerTalk that they aren’t able to book some of Wyndham’s most desired locations including Koloa Landing Poipu Beach in Kauai.

But doing a dummy search I found award nights available at this hotel.

Koloa Landing Poipu Beach Has Award Nights Available for 15,000 Wyndham Points per Night!

And again, no Go Fast rate.

Barclaycard Wyndham Rewards Card

With the Barclaycard Wyndham Rewards card you can earn 45,000 Wyndham points:

  • 30,000 Wyndham points after your 1st purchase
  • 15,000 points after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the 1st 90 days of opening your account (45,000 points total)

The $69 annual fee is NOT waived for the 1st year.  But the 45,000 Wyndham points you earn are worth 3 nights at high-end Wyndham hotels like the Koloa Landing Poipu Beach.

And with the no-annual fee version of the Barclaycard Wyndham Rewards card, you’ll get:

  • another 15,000 Wyndham points when you spend $1,000 on purchases within the 1st 90 days of opening your account

For a total of 30,000 Wyndham points.  With 30,000 Wyndham points you can get 2 nights at a top Wyndham hotels.

We don’t earn commission on these cards, but we’ll always tell you about the best offers!

Keep in mind, Barclaycard limits you to 1 or 2 of their cards per year, so choose your applications wisely!   If you already have 1 of their cards, using it will help ensure they approve you for other cards in the future.

Bottom Line

Wyndham recently changed its rewards program.  You can book award nights for 15,000 Wyndham points per night or 3,000 Wyndham points plus cash.  According to Wyndham’s advertisements, these rates are good at ANY Wyndham hotel.

This makes the Barclaycard Wyndham Rewards cards much more valuable because the points you earn, after completing the minimum spending, are worth 2 to 3 nights at even the most expensive Wyndham hotel.

Emily and I don’t earn commission on these cards, but we always tell you about the best deals.

But many folks aren’t able to book the high-end and all-inclusive hotels with points.  And it seems Wyndham isn’t sure which hotels are participating in their new rewards program.

That said, with a quick search I was able to find award nights at some top-tier hotels for 15,000 Wyndham points.  But there was no option to book using the Go Fast rate.  So Wyndham may still be working out the kinks in their new rewards program.

I’ll keep looking into this and let you know as soon as I get more details!  In the meantime, let me know about your experiences with the new Wyndham Rewards program.
