With all the great deals going on, it’s a good time to buy a computer! I’ll show you how to save and earn points at Apple, Best Buy, HP, NewEgg, and Staples!
Let’s see where you can save money (and earn extra miles and points!) on your computer purchase!
What’s the Deal?
There are some excellent deals available right now through AMEX. You can save:
- $20 off a $100+ purchase at Hp.com
- $25 off a $250+ purchase at Best Buy
- $10 statement credit for every AMEX card you have when you use AMEX Express Checkout at NewEgg
At Hp.com, you can NOT split your purchase between multiple credit cards. But if you’re able to register more than 1 AMEX card for the HP offer, you could buy several $100 HP gift cards and receive the $20 statement credit on each.
HP WILL allow you to pay for your purchase using multiple gift cards! But not with credit cards. 🙁
Note: Folks with The Business Gold Rewards Card From American Express OPEN earn 3X American Express Membership Rewards points at select hardware, software, and cloud computing providers such as HP and Apple, if they select that as their 3X category. Otherwise it’s 2X points.
Best Buy also sells gift cards in-store and online. So you could make the most of the AMEX Offer by registering multiple cards and buying $250 worth of gift cards on each card. E-gift cards are NOT eligible. But physical cards are.
Note: Some AMEX Offers are available for Bluebird accounts, but you will NOT get extended warranty protection if you use a Bluebird card for your purchase! So you’ll have to decide if the discount is worth not getting an extended warranty!
Remember, you can usually combine these deals with promotion codes and shopping portal bonuses.
Business Cards That Earn Points & Cash Back
Even if you don’t want to take advantage of these AMEX Offers, you can still earn cash back or bonus points by using the right credit card at certain stores!
You’ll earn 5X points or 5% cash back at office supply stores when you use the following cards:
- AMEX SimplyCash – 5% cash back at US office supply stores
- Chase Ink Bold (no longer available) – 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points (5% back) at office supply stores
- Chase Ink Cash – 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points (5% back) at office supply stores
- Chase Ink Plus – 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points (5% back) at office supply stores
And The Business Gold Rewards Card From American Express OPEN earns at least 2X American Express Membership Rewards points (3X if it’s your 3X category) at US computer stores like Apple, Dell, and HP.
For cards that earn 5X at office supply stores, Staples has deals on computers this week (until July 25, 2015).
Some folks have earned Staples gift cards through recent deals I’ve written about. You can use them to reduce the price!
Discover It at Apple & Amazon
And new cardholders (or folks who registered their card previously) will have their cash back doubled (even cash back earned through the shopping portal!) at the end of their 1st 12 billing cycles.
So you’d earn 2% cash back (1% on all purchases, doubled after the 1st 12 months) plus 10% cash back (5% at Staples, doubled after the 1st 12 months) for a total of 14% cash back. Not a bad savings!
Apple.com purchases also currently earn 5% cash back through the Discover Deals portal! Remember, you have to use your Discover card to get the bonus cash back!
Don’t Forget AMEX Extended Warranty
Remember, you will NOT get the extended warranty if you split the payment for your purchase. So don’t use gift cards or rebate cards to reduce the price of your item if you want the extra coverage!
But getting an AMEX offer statement credit will NOT invalidate the extended warranty!
Don’t forget to stack these deals by shopping through a portal first. Even if you don’t use an AMEX card, you could still earn extra miles, points, or cash back by shopping at office supply stores and using cards like the Chase Ink Plus or Chase Ink Cash.
Or use your new (or registered) Discover It card and earn double cash back after your 1st 12 billing cycles (including bonus cash back from the Discover Deals portal!).
Let me know if you get a good deal on a computer. Or if you’ve got another way to save or earn points on computers!
