The Chase Freedom card has limited-time sign-up bonus of 20,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points ($200) when you complete the minimum spending requirement.

That’s 10,000 more points ($100) than the usual sign-up bonus for this card.  But you’ll have to apply by June 24, 2015.

The Chase Freedom Card Earns More Than Cash Back When You Combine It With Other Chase Cards

Do you know how to combine this card with other Chase credit cards to get Big Travel?

I’ll show you how to maximize the sign-up bonus.  And give you tips about the best ways to use this valuable card!

Let’s Talk About the Sign-Up Bonus

Link:   Chase Freedom Card

Link:   Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

Link:   Chase Ink Plus Business Card

Note:   If you’ve opened 5 or more new credit card accounts (with any bank!) in the past 24 months (excluding authorized user accounts), you will likely NOT be approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Ink Plus, Ink Cash, Freedom, or Slate cards.  You MAY be approved for other Chase cards.

Until June 24, 2015, you will earn 20,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points when you sign-up for the Chase Freedom card and spend $500 on purchases in the 1st 3 months of opening your account.

That alone is worth $200 cash back.

It’s Nice When a Bank Asks You How Much Cash You Want!

One of the best things about the Chase Freedom card is its rotating quarterly 5X points categories.

For instance, from July 1, 2015, to September 30, 2015, you’ll get 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points per $1 spent at gas stations and Kohl’s.

You’ll earn 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in each quarter’s categories.

If you reach the spending threshold, that’s 7,500 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per quarter.  Or $75 cash back.

If You Max Out the Quarterly Categories, You Can Earn a Lot of Cash Back!

Over the course of a year, that adds up to 30,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points (7,500 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per quarter X 4 quarters).  Or $300 in extra cash back.  Not bad for a NO annual fee card!

If you get the increased sign-up bonus, meet the minimum spend, AND take advantage of the bonus categories this quarter, you’d earn at least 28,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points (20,000 point sign-up bonus + at least 500 points on $500 minimum spending + 7,500 points for spending $1,500 in the 5X categories this quarter).

That’s $280 in cash back.

Get Big Travel When You Combine With Other Chase Cards

Folks who like cash back can do well with the Chase Freedom card.  But you can move your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to your Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Plus, or Chase Ink Bold to unlock more travel options.

Great Uses for Chase Ultimate Rewards Points

Let’s go back to that 28,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points example.

When you send those points to the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Plus, or Chase Ink Bold cards, they become a LOT more valuable.

Chase Travel Portal

28,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points are worth 1.25 cents each at the Chase Travel Portal when you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Plus, or Chase Ink Bold.

From there, you can book flights, hotel rooms, rental cars, or activities.

28,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards Points Can Offset $350 in Travel Expenses. That’s Better Than $280 Cash Back for Folks Who Like to Travel!

28,000 points is enough to pay for $350 in travel expenses.  That’s 20% more than if you redeemed the points for cash back.

Note:  You can access the Chase Travel Portal with the Chase Freedom card, but you’ll only get 1 cent of value per point.  Shop for travel on the portal through the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Plus, or Chase Ink Bold cards to get the increased value.

Transfer to Travel Partners

Chase has a variety of travel transfer partners.

Tip for Using Your Chase Freedom Card This Quarter

The bonus categories for July 1, 2015, to September 30, 2015, are gas stations and Kohl’s stores.

If you shop at Kohls.com online, be sure to click through a shopping portal to get even MORE points!

Kohls.com is NOT on the Shop Through Chase shopping portal.  But I searched on Cashback Monitor and found many programs where you can earn more points.

Check Evreward, Cashbackholic, or Cashback Monitor to find a shopping portal.

Bottom Line

Through June 24, 2015, you’ll get 20,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points ($200) when you spend $500 on purchases using your new Chase Freedom in the 1st 3 months of opening your account.  That’s twice the usual bonus!

But you can get much more than $200 worth of airfare or hotel stays when you combine the Chase Freedom card with the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Plus, or Chase Ink Bold.

That’s because you can then transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to airline and hotel partners.  Or get 1.25 cents per point through the Chase Travel Portal.

  1. Dairius, I applied for the Chase Freedom from your link and received my card last week. I immediately activated my bonus categories so I can get 5x on restaurants through June. I now see you are saying I can activate for 3rd qtr bonus categories. If I do this before July 1 does this negate the bonus for 2nd qtr categories effective that date? I already have Chase Sapphire Preferred. Thanks!

  2. About a week ago I was approved for the Chase Southwest premier card and both the personal and business CItibank AAdvantage cards. I was also declined for the Chase Ink Plus and the Chase Southwest business cards.
Should I try applying for the Chase Freedom card at this point?
Also, are Chase Ultimate Rewards Points transferable between spouses? Thanks for your help!

  3. Good Morning. My daughter is a graduate student and applied for the Freedom card for her first Credit Card. She was not instantly approved and received the screen that we will notify you in 7-10 days. Do we just wait and see what happens?

  4. cashbackholic’s data are out of date for months! BOA and FIA malls have been closed for months, but cashbackholic still lists them for Kohl’s
