The $75 annual fee is NOT waived for the 1st year.
And the American Express Hilton Honors Surpass card can save you money, because you’ll get Hilton Gold elite status (free breakfast!).
Remember, American Express lets folks earn the sign-up bonus on personal cards just ONCE per person, per lifetime. So if you’ve had this card in the past, you can NOT get the bonus again.
However, if you have other Hilton cards, like the American Express Hilton Honors, Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Card, or Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card, you CAN get the bonus on this card, because it’s considered a different card product.
This is a very good offer for this card! And 85,000 Hilton points is more than enough for a night at a fancy Hilton hotel!
What Can You Get With 85,000 Hilton Points?
If you know where and when you want to travel, you can use the Hilton Honors Point Search Tool to quickly find hotels.
Suppose you’re traveling to Amsterdam this summer.
Otherwise, a paid stay would be ~$300. That’s a good value from 1 credit card sign-up bonus.
Or, you could splurge for 1 night at the excellent Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam. Rooms here cost ~$640. Or use 95,000 Hilton points per night.
After earning the AMEX Hilton Honors Surpass sign-up bonus, so you’ll only need another 10,000 points for a stay.
That said, you’ll earn at least another
3,000 9,000 Hilton points from minimum spending. And there are lots of other ways to get the extra points!
Thanks to reader Marvin for pointing out my math error!
Lots of Ways to Earn Hilton Points!
There are plenty of other ways to earn Hilton points.
Of course, you could always get both cards!
