Emily and I also love the Chase Freedom card because, if you max out the $1,500 spending limit on the 5X points categories each quarter you can earn 30,000 ($300 in cash back) Chase Ultimate Rewards points ($1,500 spending X 4 quarters).

While you can use the points you earn with your Chase Freedom card, you can get more value by transferring them to the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Bold, or Chase Ink Plus.

That’s because from there you can transfer the points to airline and hotels like United Airlines, Hyatt, and Ritz-Carlton.  But do what works best for you!

  1. Thanks for the reminder about gift cards at gas station to max out the $1500. And it’s good to know that it’s not just “pay at the pump” transactions that get the 5x bonus. (I’m really trying to accumulate Ultimate Rewards points right now.)

  2. Do you get the bonus at Kroger and other supermarket gas stations ?

  3. @Steve, T&C’s state grocery stores are excluded.

  4. I know with my Discover Card, the Kroger fuel stations ARE categorized gas stations. Not sure how Chase would designate them. I’d still suspect the same.

  5. Chase Freedom DOES consider the Fuel Center part of my Kroger as a GAS STATION!
