You can earn 25,000 Starwood points with the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express, but the minimum spending requirement has been reduced!

However, the minimum spending for the Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card from American Express is NOT changing.

Stay at the Regal St. Regis Florence With Your Starwood Points!

Find out more about the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest card and the new way to earn the sign-up bonus.

What’s the Deal?

Link:   How to Earn and Use Starwood Points

You used to earn 10,000 Starwood points after your 1st purchase with the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest (Personal) card.  Then another 15,000 points when you spent $5,000 on purchases within the 1st 6 months of opening your account.

But now you spend $3,000 on purchases within the 1st 3 months of opening your account to earn the 25,000 points.

So you will NOT earn Starwood points after your 1st purchase.  But overall, you’ll do LESS spending to earn the full 25,000 point bonus!

Along with the 25,000 Starwood bonus points, you’ll get:

The $65 annual fee is waived for the 1st year.

Plus, you’ll earn 5,000 bonus points when you transfer Starwood points to airline partners (in 20,000 point increments).  And the 5th night is free when you book 4 consecutive award nights at Starwood hotels (except for category 1 and 2 hotels).

But keep in mind, this card charges 3% in foreign transactions fees.  So this is NOT a good option for use outside of the US.

Starwood points are valuable because there aren’t a lot of ways to earn them, and they’re flexible.  You can book free hotel nights or transfer to long list of airline partners.

The 25,000 Starwood points you earn when you sign-up for the American Expres Starwood Preferred Guest (Personal) card and complete the minimum spending is enough for 3 free nights in a category 3 Starwood hotel, like the Sheraton Rhodes Resort in Greece.

AMEX Cards Save You Money

You can earn statement credits on everyday purchases with your American Express card through AMEX Offers.  For example, you can currently save money at places like Whole Foods, The Home Depot, and

American Express cardholders also get a free subscription to ShopRunner.  With ShopRunner, you get free shipping and returns at certain stores.  This usually costs $79 per year.

And hopefully, AMEX Small Business Saturday will return in 2015!  Last year, Emily and I earned $30 in statement credits for each American Express card.  That adds up to a lot of free holiday gifts!

You Can Earn Money Back for Shopping With Your American Express Cards!

Bottom Line

You can now earn 25,000 Starwood points with the American Express Starwood Preferred Guest (personal) card when you spend $3,000 on purchases within the 1st 3 months of opening your account.

So you can earn the full bonus with less spending!

But the minimum spending for the business version of this card is staying the same.

Keep in mind, you can only earn the sign-up bonus with the American Express Preferred Guest (Personal) card once per lifetime.

This is a good deal!  Although some folks may want to see if there will be another 30,000 point sign-up bonus offer this summer.  But there are no guarantees it’ll be offered.  Or what the minimum spending will be!
