Update:   This offer is no longer available.  Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

Earlier this month, Citi increased the sign-up bonus for the Citi Prestige card.

And now they’ve made it a lot easier to earn the 50,000 Citi ThankYou point sign-up bonus with the Citi ThankYou Premier card!  (EXPIRED.)

With the previous offer it took over 1 year to earn the full sign-up bonus.  But now you can earn it by spending $3,000 on purchases within 3 months of opening your account!

Find out how you can use the sign-up bonus to get Big Travel such as $625 for airfare and hotels through the ThankYou Travel Center.  Or for flights to Hawaii and Europe by transferring to airline partners.

And I’ll tell you about the other changes to the Citi ThankYou Premier card!

What’s New With the Citi ThankYou Premier Card?

Link:   Citi ThankYou Premier Card

It’s now easier to earn 50,000 Citi ThankYou points!

Just sign-up for the Citi ThankYou Premier card and spend $3,000 on purchases within 3 months of opening your account.  (EXPIRED.)

With the previous offer, you had to spend $2,000 with the 1st 3 months of opening your account AND $3,000 within the 1st 3 months during the 2nd year of being a cardholder.

So this is a much better offer!

With this card you’ll also get:

  • 3 Citi ThankYou points per $1 spent on travel (ex. airfare, gas stations, taxis, tolls)
  • Citi ThankYou points per $1 spent on dining and entertainment (amusement parks, sporting events, movies)
  • No foreign transaction fees

The $95 (previously, $125) annual fee is waived for the 1st year.  And the travel category now includes a wider range of purchases such as:

  • Airfare
  • Cruises
  • Car Rental Agencies
  • Gas Stations
  • Hotels
  • Parking Garages
  • Public Transportation
  • Taxis
  • Tolls

These are nice upgrades!

What Can You Do With 50,000 Citi ThankYou Points?

Here’s a look at how you can redeem Citi ThankYou points.

1.   $500 in Gift Cards

You can trade in Citi ThankYou points for gift cards at 1 cent per point.  So 50,000 points is worth $500 in gift cards.  Some folks might like this but I’d rather get more value using the points for travel!

2.   $625 Towards Airfare & More Booked Through Citi Travel Center

You can also use your 50,000 Citi ThankYou points to book up to $625 worth of airfare, hotels, car rentals, and cruises through the Citi Travel Center.

What’s convenient about this option is you won’t have to worry about blackout dates or finding award seats or nights.  And you’ll earn miles for your flight!

Get up to $625 Worth of Airfare, Hotels, Car Rentals, and Cruises With Your Citi ThankYou Points!

3.   Transfer to Airline and Hotel Partners

You can transfer your Citi ThankYou points to these partners:

Citi ThankYou Points Airline Transfer Partners
Asia Miles (Cathay Pacific)EVA AirEtihad
Flying Blue (Air France/KLM)Garuda Indonesia Malaysia Airlines
QantasQatar AirwaysSingapore Airlines
Thai AirwaysVirgin AmericaVirgin Atlantic
Citi ThankYou Points Hotel Transfer Partners
Hilton Hotels

But I’d only pay ~0.4 to 0.5 cents per Hilton point, so personally I wouldn’t transfer Citi ThankYou points to Hilton.  But this could be worth it for some folks.

Instead you’ll get more value from your Citi ThankYou points by transferring them to airline partners.

For example, you can get great deals by:

Get Great Deals on Flights to Europe and Hawaii When You Transfer Your Citi ThankYou Points to Airline Partners!

Note: When you have the Citi ThankYou Premier card (or the Citi Prestige, or Citi Chairman card (no longer available) you can combine points earned from the Citi ThankYou Preferred with 1 of those accounts, and then transfer them to travel partners.

Bottom Line

Citi has made changes to the Citi Premier card!  You can now earn 50,000 Citi ThankYou points when you spend $3,000 on purchases within the 1st 3 months of opening your account.  (EXPIRED.)

That’s worth $625 in airfare (or hotels, cruises, and car rentals) when you book through the Citi Travel Center.  Or you can transfer to airline partners for flights to Hawaii and Europe!

That’s a great improvement considering it used to take over 1 year to earn the same sign-up bonus for this card!

You’ll also now earn 3 Citi ThankYou points per $1 spent on travel (includes more types of purchases!) and 2 Citi ThankYou points per $1 spent on dining and entertainment.

Plus, the annual fee is reduced from $125 to $95 (still waived the 1st year!).  It’s great to see Citi continuing to make improvements to their cards!

And remember, you can still earn a $800 flight and $500 in airfare with the Citi Prestige card through July 23, 2017!

  1. So if I recently got the Thank You Preferred card and received a bonus, will I be able to get this bonus as well?

  2. So which card would you recommend for the beginner? the CTYPC or the CP?

  3. Is this an AMEX card?

  4. Hey Darius! Can Thank You points still be redeemed for mortgage payments and student loans?

  5. Thanks again for the great web site, Daraius! If I just got the Citi Prestige card on April 11th, would I have a chance of getting approved for the Citi Premier card soon, in a few weeks, or not at all?

  6. This is incorrect information. The previous post did not take over two years to get the total 50k point bonus. You would get the first installment within the first three months and then the second within the first three months of the second year. That means a total elapsed time of one year and three months at most because it’s WITHIN the second year, not after it. The post here clearly says “over 2 years”. I expect better from a blog like this. I expect basic math skills.

  7. Hello, I was wondering if I would be able to receive the bonus again if I have had the sign up bonus in the last year. I cancelled the card in February after recieving the second part of my bonus.

  8. Wow that was rude. I love reading all your posts. You have such a nice style of writing that makes your readers feel like friends. Thanks for always inspiring us to travel more for less

  9. I have been collecting miles and points for 20+ years and read your blog daily. Darius, you are a consummate and passionate professional. Thank you for everything you do. My portfolio with Citi is thin, so I will jump on this one today!

  10. Hi Daraius, Great ! Thank you for your post… I just got my Citi Prestige… Would they approve another Citi Premier ? How long shall I wait to apply for Citi Premier ? Thank you so much !

  11. “Anonymous” = major troll. Go elsewhere with your “elite” math skills. You know what he meant regarding the bonus not being paid out within the first year. Nobody was confused, except you.

Thanks for all your hard work D!

  12. “anonymous” we dont need your annoying comments!
Darius thank you for all the work you do for us readers. its greatly appreciated!

  13. Hi Daraius, How long do you think this new Citi Premiere Card promotion will last ? Thanks !
For the “anonymous” comment, people really need to guard their mind and speech, and try not to hurt other people, especially Daraius has been so helpful in providing us with all these wonderful information.

  14. Are these points just redeemable for a $500 statement credit? I know it’s not the best use of them, but I’m looking to offset a purchase.

  15. Or can anyone recommend a card that has some straight cash back on it? I already have Sapphire, Arrival, and AMEX Blue Cash Preferred.

  16. @Raymond: I don’t believe this is a limited-time offer; I think this is the new (semi)permanent reward structure for the Citi Premier card.

@Amber: I’m pretty sure you cannot get $500 cash; the closest thing would be various $100 gift cards.

  17. @Gail – I explicitly said “I expect better from a blog like this”. I said that because I do believe that this blog USUALLY has good content. Obviously, everyone here is a human (or are they?), and humans make mistakes. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to correct mistakes. We can try to get better. That’s why I made my comment, to try to get the author of the blog to improve in this one specific area. I’m NOT going to say that I’m better than Darius; I’m just saying that I was able to see one mistake that Darius apparently didn’t, and I’m trying to help in a way that I can. Assuming people are trying to be rude can actually MAKE them rude. Don’t make assumptions.

@Brian – Thank you so much, Brian! I didn’t realize that you spoke for absolutely everyone and knew the understandings of absolutely everyone! So tell me, wise one, what should we do on the Israeli-Palestinian situation? How about Russia-Ukraine conflict? You obviously know when ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE is not confused and when they are.

Oh, and thank you for telling me that I’m a troll when you know nothing about why I made my post. So, what? What’s your alternative, that we leave behind a mistake? Thank you so much for allowing misinformation to be spread! Thank you so much for that! I EXPLICITLY SAID that I expect better from this blog. That means that this blog USUALLY has good posts. It’s one mistake, but it’s a mistake that we can correct, try to improve! Your way of thinking would have us just be satisfied with the way things are, with never trying to do anything beyond what we currently have. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

@vanessa – Do we need your empty gratitude? Sorry that I’m trying to HELP PEOPLE. THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME THAT I’M ANNOYING WHEN I’M TRYING TO HELP. See my above comments.

@Raymond L – Okay, I’ll be more calm in replying to you. I understand that my comment may have been interpreted as trying to be hurtful, but I did explicitly say that I expect better from the blog. I’m just trying to improve the already high quality of the blog. Yes, it’s already high in quality (and yes, that is accountable to Darius’s efforts). Does that mean that it can’t be improved by some constructive criticism?

  18. Wish I’d seen this sooner. I applied with the 2 year deal. I’ll email citI to see if they’ll match.

  19. So it is actually $400 bonus with $5000 min spending. Doesn’t seem good deal.

  20. HI

I am trying to find out if Kathy Pasific or partners will fly form SFO to OUA (burkina faso) and what the fuel cost and miles would be. Anyone know? The CITI thank you points would be worth it to me if i can find out this info

  21. How long after you meet your minimum spend are your 50,000 points posted to your account.

  23. Hi Daraius,

I got my Cit Prestige Card in April. Will Citi still give me sign up bonus for getting a new Citi Premiere Card ??? If yes, then I plan to apply soon. Thank you !

  24. Captian Hooks

@Darius can you apply for the regular thank you card and get the 20k bonus that they are offering with $1500 spend?

  25. Any back no./reconsideration line no. to call if original application is not approved?
