Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance
Unlike some credit cards that offer primary car rental insurance coverage, American Express offers secondary car rental insurance coverage. This means your personal or business car insurance company pays 1st. So you have to pay your insurance deductible which could increase your insurance rates!
But you can pay for optional primary insurance coverage. You’ll pay ~$25 (~$18 for California residents) for rentals up to 42 consecutive days (30 consecutive days for Washington State residents).
