I’ve written about StayFaster, which can help you easily compare hotel rates while still allowing you to earn hotel points and receive elite status benefits like room upgrades and free breakfast.
So how can you use StayAtHand to save on hotels in the US?
Save 10% on Your Next Hotel Stay With StayAtHand
Link: StayAtHand App (for iPhone and iPad only)
StayAtHand is a mobile app that helps you search for and book hotels.
- The same flexible cancellation rules you get with the hotel
- The same prices you’d pay booking on the hotel website
- Hotel points for your stay
- Elite status benefits like free Wi-Fi, free breakfast, and room upgrades
And if register on the StayFaster website or through the app using promotional code “Million Mile Secrets”, you’ll get 10% cash back on your 1st booking, and 6% back on all other bookings through January 31, 2016!
A check will be sent to the address on your account at the end of each quarter.
Note: Hotels that don’t qualify will have “Not Eligible for Promotions” at the top of each room description.
We arranged to give the 6% back to our readers instead of collecting a commission!
How to Use the StayAtHand App
When you 1st open the StayAtHand app, you’ll see 3 bubbles.
1. Search for Hotels
The “Search for Hotels” bubble allows you to search for a hotel using a wide variety of filters.
I like this because you aren’t tied down to a certain way of searching!
When you select “Dates” you can choose from bubbles that act as quick links to popular ways folks tend to search.
If you want to take a weekend trip during an upcoming long weekend, select the “Weekdays, Seasons, & Holidays” circle. Then you can avoid pulling up the calendar and just select the holiday listed.
2. Stay Here Tonight
If you select the “Stay Here Tonight” circle, the app will pull up a map with hotel prices in your area.
Click on the button on the lower-right of the screen to filter the results.
3. My Searches & Requests
You can save searches and have the app send you emails when there are changes to your results. Here’s how it works:
Then enter your search criteria.
Just name your search and click “Send Request.”
When you book a hotel using the StayAtHand app your card is charged by the hotel. So remember to pay with a card that will give you bonus points for your stay such as:
- Chase Hyatt – 3X points at Hyatt hotels
- Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Card – 10X points at Hilton hotels
- Chase Sapphire Preferred – 2X points on travel
You can only search for hotels within the US with the StayAtHand app (at least for now). And there are so many different ways to search that it could be overwhelming for some folks.
Also, as I showed in my review of StayFaster, you won’t always find the lowest price compared to other hotel sites like Expedia. So you’ll have to do the math to determine if the extra savings outweighs the benefits of earning rewards points, flexible cancellation rules, and taking advantage of your elite status benefits.
Neat Tricks & Uses for This App
Here are a few examples of when this app might come in handy, outside of everyday searches.
1. Find Last-Minute Hotels
If your flight has been canceled due to the weather and you can’t get out until the next day, the StayAtHand app is a very fast and easy way to find a nearby hotel.
When you click the “Stay Here Tonight” bubble, a map will pop up for your location and show prices for hotels in your area. You can then click on the filter button and narrow your results down to hotels that offer an airport shuttle.
Select any other criteria that’s important to you.
2. Finding Cheap Hotels to Complete Promotions
Let’s say you’ve signed-up for the Hyatt’s latest promotion where you could earn up to 65,000 points for staying 25 nights. So far you’ve stayed 24 nights at Hyatt hotels and earned 45,000 Hyatt points.
You only need 1 more night to earn a total of 65,000 Hyatt points. But you don’t have any stays planned through April 30, 2015, (the end of the promotion).
So if you can find a room at Hyatt for a good price, it may be worth booking an extra night just to earn the additional 15,000 Hyatt points.
You can enter your Hyatt number into the app.
Then select Hyatt and enter your member number.
You can now search for cheap Hyatt hotels in your area. You can select your entire state, “Stay Anytime” for the dates, and set your price range.
And the app shows you there’s a Hyatt Place for $80 per night outside of Denver.
3. Cancel Your Reservation in Seconds!
Again, reservations made with StayAtHand are entered into the hotel’s booking system. So you will have the same cancellation policy as you would if you booked through the hotel directly.
You should receive an email confirmation of your cancellation.
You get 10% cash back on your next hotel booking when you create a free StayAtHand account and use promotional code “Million Mile Secrets”. Plus, you’ll earn 6% cash back on all other hotel bookings through January 31, 2016!
This app makes it easy to quickly search and compare prices on last minute hotels and also has a wide variety of filters for more in-depth searches.
You may find better rates on sites like Expedia. So do the math to see if forgoing hotel points and benefits like free breakfast is worth the savings.
Note: Folks who sign-up for the StayAtHand app using our promotional code will have the opportunity to win a $200 credit, this Saturday, March 28, 2015.
