  1. Good discussion. I think for most purposes, though, the price is pretty much the market value of the hotel stay, so not something to do without a specific better use in mind, such as examples you mention. As a rule, I only value IHG points at about .5 cents each for use, and since they are always available to acquire at .7, the offer at .57 probably will be of interest to some, but the margins aren’t spectacular. A modest deal, maybe.

  2. Can you clarify something for me? I am looking at the Intercontinental San Juan PR. Its’ 50000/night or 45000/$40 or 40000/$70. I can get this room directly through Chase UR for 14000 UR/night. Are Chase UR points and IHG points equal?

  3. @Joey, UR point and IHG point are definitely not equal. Although you can transfer 1 UR for 1 IHG point, I would never do that unless I just needed to top off the account for few thousand for an award stay.’
Most bloggers valu UR at 1.8 to 2 cents per point.. where iHG is only about .5 to .7 cent per point.

If you can book a room through Chase UR portal for 14k UR points, for the same room using 50k IHG poitns then you should definitely use UR points.

  4. @DaveS Get off the high horse. Last I checked .57 < .70, and valuing at .50 is laughable. Its all about what you can redeem for (not factoring in points that would have been gained from paying cash for stay). Any major market is going to make this a good deal whether its NY, DC, London, Bora Bora, and many others………..

  5. Any advice for a military member stationed overseas to complete the purchase of a Daily Getaway deal? I have tried several times unsuccessfully to input my PO Box info on the payment page…..smh.

  6. I purchased 50k points today on the deal for $293. My wife and I plan to use those points to stay two nights at the Seattle Airport Crowne Plaza this summer. The cost for two nights cash would have been $658, so we’re quite happy with the deal ourselves.

  7. @Unrea Brown – install any free software (if not already) that can change your proxy country to US. That way all web traffic will assume you’re located in US.

  8. @Unrea Brown – Try putting something along the lines of :
    PSC 41 Box 1228
    New York, NY 09464.

I use to have the same problem trying to buy plane tickets from Ryan air or bus tickets. For some reason putting New York sometimes works. A friend showed it to me a couple of years ago…good luck

  9. For IHG promo, do I have to buy by mid-night tonight or the offer will be available until sold out like the Alamo deal? Fine prints didn’t address that too much. Thanks in advance!

  10. Quick question before taking action: For IHG promo, do I have to buy by mid-night tonight or the offer will be available until sold out like the Alamo deal? Fine prints didn’t address that too much. Thanks in advance!

  11. @Tung – Until sold out. I just checked and says limited quantities left. I purchased earlier today and will use at a property in Europe this summer for my Round the World vacation, thanks to Daraius’ helpful tips.

  12. Thanks for your reply, Lea G. I pulled the trigger last night. 🙂
