You Have 24 Hours to Book at 50% Off! Which Hotel Will You Choose?

IHG Flash Sale hotels usually don’t last long!  So if you’re interested in staying at these hotels for less, you can usually book now and cancel later without penalty.  But check the cancellation policy to be certain!

However, there is a long list of blackout dates.  Be sure to check this list by clicking the link at the bottom of the offer pagebefore you book!

How Can You Earn IHG Hotel Points?

Link:   Chase IHG Rewards Card

You can get IHG Rewards points by:

  • Signing-up for the IHG Rewards credit card to get 70,000 IHG points  after meeting the minimum spending requirement..  It also includes a free night every year on your card anniversary.  This offer is set to expire soon.

Usually, transferring points from Chase Ultimate Rewards points to IHG Rewards is not the best value, but it certainly could make sense for hotels on this FlashSale or PointBreaks list.

Note:  Chase Ultimate Rewards points do NOT transfer to IHG instantly.  It can take up to 24 hours for the points show up in your IHG account.  Because you only have 24 hours to book FlashSale hotels, transfer at your own risk.  Once they are in your IHG account, you can’t transfer them back to Chase Ultimate Rewards!

Bottom Line

For 24 hours you can save 50% on award bookings at the Venetian and Palazzo hotels in Las Vegas.  This sale starts today at 12:00 pm Eastern Time.  You can book for stays through December 28, 2015.

If these hotels fit into your travel plans book fast!  And if your plans change, you should be able to cancel your reservation for free (but read the cancellation policy before you book!).

  1. If you are contemplating transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points to IHG, check on the Ultimate Rewards booking engine first. I found rooms at the Palazzo for under 12,000 points on a Thursday and 22,000 points on a Friday. That is not a special, it is the price to book Palazzo directly from the Chase booking engine which is based on the dollar price of the room, which I think was about $145 on the Thursday and $250 on Friday. Also, no matter how you book, expect to pay another $30 or so for the daily resort fee when you get to the hotel.

Generally speaking, it’s often worth paying for rooms in Las Vegas in cash, because they are such a good value relative to other places, and there is no commensurate discount for using points. That said, if you are points-rich and cash-poor, as I have been at times, do what works best for you.

  2. Hi Darius,

I thought Chase UR points should never be transferred to IHG? The reasoning being that UR points can be redeemed at a value of 1 cent each when used as a statement credit (as close to a “cash value” as you can get in credit card land), which sets the minimum value. IHG points on the other hand, can be purchased with cash for 0.7 cents each using the Cash+Points trick. To explain myself more…

Scenario 1: Transfer 5000 UR points for 5000 IHG points. You spent $50 (opportunity cost of UR points) for something that you could have bought for $35 (5000 IHG points cost $35).

Scenario 2: Keep your UR points. Book a Points+Cash stay that requires 5000 IHG points; cancel it. You’ve now spent $35 for 5000 IHG points. (To take this further, if you bought it with a card that uses Chase UR, you could pay off the balance for only 3500 UR points!)

So if my logic is correct, you should *never* transfer UR points for IHG points. It would result in a loss of 30% of the value immediately, and really, there is zero advantage to ever doing Scenario 1.

Is that right? I’m still learning!
