We looked at how you can use TripAdvisor to find a hotel that’s right for you.  But TripAdvisor isn’t just for hotels, it’s also a flight search tool.

Looking for Flights? TripAdvisor Can Help!

You can’t book flights with TripAdvisor, but you can see most of your options in 1 place which is a big time saver!

I’ll show you how to do a basic search and we’ll take a look at how TripAdvisor compares to other flight search tools.

To find airfare on TripAdvisor, select flights on the main page and enter your origin, destination, and travel dates.

How Does TripAdvisor Stack Up to the Competition?

I like using TripAdvisor because it’s a 1-stop shop.  I can find hotels, flights, and things to do all on 1 site.  However, there are still some drawbacks.

While you can do a lot of things on TripAdvisor, booking flights is not 1 of them.  But this is a minor inconvenience because you are quickly routed to the booking page.

Find Your Own Southwest Flights

Like many other flight search tools, you will NOT get results for Southwest.  That’s because Southwest wants you to only use their site.

So if you’re looking for flights within the US, Mexico, and the Caribbean, you should also check Southwest because they often have the best fares!

Southwest Has Great Deals on Flights, but You’ll Have to Go to Their Website to Compare Their Prices!

No Help With Finding the Best Travel Dates

More importantly, 1 feature that’s really missing from TripAdvisor, is the ability to easily find the best travel dates.

Most search tools like Google Flights, Kayak, and Orbitz will show you a table or calendar with prices for each day during your month of travel.

TripAdvisor does have a “Compare Dates” button, but the table didn’t list all the prices for me.

Do You Want to Find the Best Travel Dates? You’ll Have to Search for Yourself!

My travel dates aren’t always that flexible, but if I can save a lot of money, I like to know so I can try to move things around.

Google Flights Shows Me That I Would Save $100 on my Flight Leaving on Tuesday Instead of Friday!

Bottom Line

TripAdvisor can help you find flights.  What it does best is help you filter through hundreds of flights and find the 1 that works best for you.

But you won’t be able to see Southwest flights, which could be the cheaper option if you’re traveling in the US, Mexico, or the Caribbean.

The biggest feature that’s missing on TripAdvisor is the ability to compare prices across several travel dates at once.  So if you have some flexibility you may want to stick with Google Flights to ensure you find the best price!
