If your local Global Entry center has a long delay, consider scheduling an appointment in a city you’ll be traveling to.

In October, I applied for Global Entry using the American Express Mercedes-Benz Platinum credit.

But it was a 2 month delay if I went to the center in Austin!  So I went to the center in Chicago during the Chicago Seminars.

The interview was relaxed and ~5 minutes with a polite officer.  And I got my Global Entry card ~1 week later!

However, my credit didn’t post automatically to my American Express Mercedes-Benz Platinum account.  So I had to call AMEX at 800-525-3355 to get it resolved!

Check your American Express account to be sure you get the credit!

  1. Does the GE appointment schedule work the same as Nexus? If so, it’s online appts. Book one a ways out, then Mon/Tue look for cancellations for that Friday. I was able to move mine to a couple weeks out and moved my wife’s to 4 days after conditional approval.

  2. Wow, lot of useless info just to pimp seven credit card links!

  3. On a related note, Global Entry enrollment centers are not just located in airports. For example I live in the Los Angeles area and the obvious place to go is LAX but there wasn’t an appointment for 3 months when I tried to enroll. Luckily, I found out that some of the border offices near San Diego had enrollment centers. Yes it was a two hour drive down but I was able to get an appointment the next week. If time is on your side I would still go to the nearest location but if you want the Global Entry (and PreCheck on almost all domestic flights) ASAP, know that you have other options.

  4. Why does it say IND as ur citizenship???

    India?

  5. I called the local office in Las Vegas and asked them how to move up an appointment date. They said keep checking the website everyday as people cancel their appointments and that creates new open appointment slots. So I did and four days later I was able to book an appointment within the week.

  6. If you have some extra time it might be worth it to just go to your closest location and see if they will take you as a walk in. My wife and I went into Boston on the day after thanksgiving. We had to wait a couple of hours but the agents squeezed us in between other appointments. Just be polite and patient.

  7. Got to say I was tempted to get Global Entry because of long US Custom’s lines, but since Passport Express has come to my airport, it has made going through Customs a breeze. Just last weekend I walked from my airplane right up to a Passport Express machine and scan my passport, answer a few questions and had a print out to show the custom’s official. Took only a couple of minutes.

  8. Another option is the NEXUS card. $50 for 5 years. I’ve had it for 7 years. You get the TSA-pre and also enrolled in the Trusted Traveler program for customs at airports.

  9. Here’s how I got GE appointment almost instantly at my airport:

    1) Open the GE appointment site where you select the date.
    2) Select the first opening you can (in this case, it was 3 months out at SFO)
    3) Select to change date.
    4) Reload the page throughout the day. Just check in every 30 minutes or so. I swear it changes.

Later that day I was able to find a slot for a week out, and the next day I checked 3-4 times, and a slot opened up SAME WEEK, 2 days out. Rather than waiting 3 months, I only had to wait 2 days. Perfect for my business trip the following week.

  10. @S “Why does it say IND as ur citizenship???

    India?”

    Why state the obvious?

  11. Citi Executive will reimburse $100 now. I paid the fee at end of April and the credit was posted on my statement close date which was 5/4.

  12. Has anyone had any success getting a quick appointment at JFK or Newark? Such as by refreshing the page or just by walking in? I’m a journalist working on a story.

  13. WOW!!! This worked perfectly. My initial appointment was for three weeks out. When I went back in and changed it I got one for tomorrow!!!

  14. I am refreshed the LAX appointment scheduler since my daughter missed her appointment yesterday. I need before February 5th so I can get it before a Euro trip.
Anyone had any luck walking in at LAX without an appointment?
Or does anyone have an appointment they want to give me/cancel so I can book?!

  15. I have over a 6 month wait for my interview at my local office at the San Francisco Airport. I am traveling twice by plane this year to other airports, but none of them have openings for interviews during the times I’m going to be there. I think a 6 month wait for an interview is not reasonable, and Global Entry should be up front about this delay before they take your money. There is no listed phone number until after you pay the $100 dollars and wait for the conditional approval. Then you are given a local phone number and allowed to check their calendar for openings. So, until I spent the $100 (non refundable), I had no idea I had a 6 months wait. I would have done TSA Pre-Check instead if I’d known this.
I’ve checked daily for over a month on GOES for cancelations but there have been none.

  16. I agree with the previous writer. I too have a 6 month wait. I will try the previous recommendation to keep looking but would not have bothered with this had I known 6 month wait.

  17. Agree with the two comments before me this program is a f’n joke a five month wait for a interview is ridiculous. Do yourself a favor and just do pre check.

  18. So I spent an hour getting myself and my wife registered on line. Then I paid $200. Then I waited a month to get conditionally approved. Just me, nothing on my wife yet. Then I find out the nearest place to get an interview is 3 1/2 hours away. Then I find I have to wait another 6 months to get an appointment. We travel in 7 weeks.

I should have known better than engaging with the feds in the first place.

  19. Verified what David, Sheryl, Kyle, and Jerry said. Applied in mid-June 2016 and was conditionally approved 7/8/16 (3-4 weeks). My home state of Colorado has one processing center booked solid until 12/28!!! Going out of the country in 5-6 months.
In several months I’m flying to Indianapolis, Dallas, and Raleigh and none of these destinations have openings that will work! UNBELIEVABLE! Almost better to save yourself money & time because the scheduling effort will be more than waiting in line at passport control.

  20. We applied for Global Entry over a month ago, and paid $300 for 3 of us. There are NO APPOINTMENTS in Charlotte, forever. Can we get out money refunded and just get TSA? We are not traveling before Sept., so we are screwed. This has taken so much time, effort and money. There is no place close to Charlotte…..maybe DC or Atlanta. But they seem to have long waits. I wish we could have been warned before we started the process!

  21. I live in Seattle and can’t get an appointment soon, but Vancouver airport is showing lots of openings. Does anyone know if i can have the interview in Vancouver? Thanks!

  22. Thanks for the tip on refreshing. I had first received an appointment for three months out and now I have one in four days!

  23. Saving you minutes by costing you hours – Global Entry

  24. The first available appointment at SFO for me was over 6 months out. Today I sat at my computer and refreshed every two minutes for about 2 hours and was able to land one for early next week 🙂

From this I noticed that scheduling is dynamic so as soon as one opens, anybody can grab it, the refresh isn’t once a day or even once every hour, it is immediate. That is why, checking once a day likely isn’t going to get you a substantially better appointment time. Persistence is key!
