They’re Back! All 3 Southwest Cards Offering 50,000 Points

Signing up for credit cards through partner links earns us a commission. Terms apply to the offers listed on this page. Here’s our full advertising policy: How we make money.

Update:   One or more card offers in this post are no longer available.  Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

If you missed out on the increased sign-up bonus on the Southwest cards last year, here’s another chance to apply!

Via MileCards, the Chase Southwest Premier (Personal), Chase Southwest Premier (Business), and Chase Southwest Plus (Personal) cards all have a 50,000 point sign-up bonus after you spend $2,000 in purchases within the 1st 3 months.

That’s worth ~$710 in Southwest flights, or $500 in gift cards.

Emily and I don’t receive a commission on the Premier Business or Plus Personal cards but we always tell you about the best offers!

Note:   The Chase Southwest Plus (Business) card has been discontinued. 🙁

You Can Get the 50,000 Point Sign-Up Bonus on the Southwest Cards Again!

Usually, the sign-up bonus on these cards is 25,000 points.  So this is a great deal, especially for folks looking to qualify for Southwest Companion Pass!

You’ll get 50,000 points after you spend $2,000 in purchases within the 1st 3 months with all 3 of the Southwest cards.  I’m not sure how long these offers will last.  But in the past they’ve been available for a few weeks at a time.

And you’ll earn 2 points per $1 you spend on Southwest, hotel partners, car rental partners, and points purchases.  And 1 point per $1 you spend on everything else.

Here are the differences between the Premier and Plus versions of the card:

Emily and I don’t earn a commission from the Southwest Premier Business or Personal Plus offers, but we’ll always tell you about the best deals!

If you’ve already had any of the Southwest cards, you could still get the bonus.  That’s because Chase has changed their rules, and the terms and conditions now say:

This new cardmember bonus offer is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of this consumer credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of this consumer credit card who received a new cardmember bonus for this consumer credit card within the last 24 months.

That’s great news for folks who want to earn the Companion Pass again!

Still a Good Time to Earn the Southwest Companion Pass!

It’s early in the year, which makes it a good time to earn the Southwest Companion Pass.  That’s because if you get the Companion Pass now, it will be valid for all of 2015 AND 2016!  That’s almost 2 years!

The Southwest Companion Pass is the best deal for domestic travel, because your companion travels with you for almost free on both paid and award tickets.  To get the Companion Pass, you need to earn 110,000 Southwest points in a calendar year.

Two Can Travel for the Price of 1 With the Southwest Companion Pass

By applying for 2 Southwest credit cards (personal and business), you’ll earn 104,000 points (including points from meeting minimum spending).  And there are lots of ways to easily earn the last 6,000 points you need for the Companion Pass!

Remember, each of the Southwest cards is considered a different card product, so you can get a personal and business card at the same time.

If don’t think you’re eligible for a business card, read my post about ways you might qualify!

Note:   It’s unlikely Chase will approve you for 2 personal cards at the same time.

Bottom Line

All 3 versions of the Chase Southwest credit cards now offer an increased 50,000 point sign-up bonus after you spend $2,000 in the 1st 3 months.  That’s worth ~$710 in Southwest flights!

This is an even better deal if you apply for 2 cards (personal and business), because you’ll earn most of the points necessary for the Southwest Companion Pass.  By qualifying for the pass early in the year, you’ll get almost 2 years of Big Travel with Small Money!

And folks who’ve had these cards in the past could qualify for them again, as long as they haven’t gotten the card bonus in the past 24 months.
