UPDATE: The Chase Sapphire Preferred no longer earns 3X points on the 1st Friday of the month.
It’s the 1st Friday of the month again!
That means when you use your Chase Sapphire Preferred card at restaurants, you’ll earn 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards points!
How to Earn Even More Points Today!
While 3X points is nice, you can sweeten the deal by joining the Rewards Network dining program for up to 5X additional points!
To get the extra points, just register your Chase Sapphire Preferred (or any other card) with Rewards Network. Then dine at a participating restaurant, bar, or nightclub and earn as much as 5X more points.
How the Points Add Up
Let’s say you want to earn Southwest Airlines points. You spend $60 at a Rewards Network participating location and pay with your Chase Sapphire Preferred card.
Here’s how many points you could earn:
- 180 Chase Ultimate Rewards points for 1st Friday ($60 spent X 3X points with Chase Sapphire Preferred
- up to 300 Southwest points with Rewards Network ($60 spent X up to 5X points from Rewards Network)
You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest at a 1:1 ratio. This means you will earn a total of:
- up to 480 Southwest points (180 Chase Ultimate Rewards points which you can transfer to Southwest + up to 300 Southwest Points from Rewards Network)
How to Earn 3X Points With Your Chase Sapphire Preferred
Earning the 3X points on 1st Friday is easy! Just use your card to pay your bill.
3X Points NOT Just for Food!
You don’t have to dine at a restaurant to earn 3X points today. I’ve also earned the bonus at bars, pubs, and nightclubs that also serve food and are coded as restaurants.
You can order drinks and still get 3X points as long as Chase classifies it as dining establishment.
However, keep in mind that Chase has the final say on how purchases are classified.
Gift Cards Count Too!
If you don’t have plans to eat out tonight and still want to earn bonus points, don’t worry! You can earn 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards points and up to 5X points with Rewards Network when you buy gift cards at dining establishments.
If You’re Traveling Overseas Can You Still Earn 3X Points?
Yes. You can earn 3X points for dining anywhere in the world. Plus, the Chase Sapphire Preferred card does NOT charge foreign transaction fees. So it’s a great card to use when you travel.
Today is the 1st Friday of the month, which means you’ll earn 3X points for dining when you pay with your Chase Sapphire Preferred card.
