You could earn enough points to get a free night at the InterContinental: London Park Lane or a couple of free nights at an Orlando Holiday Inn near Universal Studios with IHG’s new promotion.

Starting January 1, 2015, IHG hotels is running another bonus points promotion called Set Your Sights.

This is similar to promotions IHG has had before, like Into the Nights.  You could earn up to 50,000 bonus points (or more!) for stays between January 1, 2015, and April 30, 2015.

Where Would You Use 50,000+ IHG Points?

After you register, you’ll get a list of personalized “tasks” which earn you bonus points.

You can sign-up for the Set Your Sights promotion now, but do NOT start completing the tasks until the New Year.  That’s because Into the Nights (the previous promotion) runs until December 31, 2014.

Let’s see if it’s worth signing-up for IHG’s Set Your Sights promotion!

What’s the Deal?

IHG Rewards Club members can register for the Set Your Sights promotion starting today, and view their personalized offers.

By completing these offers, you’ll earn bonus points which can be used at any IHG hotel.  You’ll get the maximum number of points by completing all of the tasks.

IHG hotels include Candlewood Suites, Crowne PlazaHoliday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Hotel Indigo, Intercontinental Hotels & Resorts, and Staybridge Suites brand hotels.

You Could Earn Points for Stays at Different IHG Brand Hotels, Like Holiday Inn, Intercontinental, or Staybridge Suites

Depending on your elite status level and how frequently you’ve stayed at IHG hotels, the tasks can be as easy as downloading the IHG app and staying a few nights.

Or you might have to stay 10 nights or more!

Note:   Award nights and paid stays booked through 3rd party sites (like TravelPony) are not eligible for the promotion.

What Kinds of Offers Are Available?

1.   New Member, Non-Elite, No Paid Stays

Here’s a list of tasks for a non-elite, new (~2 months old) IHG member.

These Tasks Could Be Easy If You Have IHG Stays Coming Up Anyway

In this case, you could complete the tasks in just 2 stays:

  • 1 – Download the IHG app
  • 2 – Book 2 stays on the IHG app or website
  • 3 – Stay 2 nights at a Holiday Inn over the weekend
  • 4 – Stay 1 night at a different Holiday Inn any day
  • 5 – Earn a bonus by staying 3 total nights (from above)

2.   Long-Time Member, Platinum Elite, No Paid Stays This Year

A Platinum Elite IHG member who has status from having the Chase IHG Rewards credit card got the following tasks.  This member had no paid stays this year, just award stays.

This total offer is for 75,000 IHG points.  But check out the number of nights!

You’d Earn More Bonus Points With This Offer, but Need to Stay Many More Nights

You could complete this offer by:

  • 1 – Downloading the IHG app and booking 10 stays
  • 2 – Staying 10 nights at IHG hotels (included in above)
  • 3 – Booking 6 weekend stays (Saturday plus another night)
  • 4 – Booking bonus packages (breakfast included, etc.) for the weekend stays

Because the weekend stays have to be 2 nights each, you’d have to book a total of 12 weekend nights.  And you’d need another 4 stays (or 4 separate nights) to meet the 10 stays booked through the app requirement.

So you could complete this offer with a minimum of 16 nights.  That’s a lot of paid nights!  This offer doesn’t seem practical unless you have a lot of paid weekend stays coming up at IHG hotels anyway.

3.   Long-Time Member, Platinum Elite, Paid Stays This Year

Here are the offers for a member who had paid stays this year and has Platinum Elite status.  Note that 6 of the 7 tasks must be completed to get the full bonus.

This Is Getting Complicated! Complete 6 of 7 Tasks to Earn the Maximum Bonus

To complete this list of tasks, you could:

  • 1 – Stay 10 nights at IHG hotels
  • 2 – Book at least 4 stays through the IHG app
  • 3 – Stay 2 weekends (Saturday plus 1 other night) for a total of 4 nights (included in the 10 night requirement)
  • 4 – Make at least 1 night a bonus package stay
  • 5 – Book at least 1 stay with the Chase IHG Rewards credit card

In this case, you could complete the offer by staying 10 nights total, as long as you plan it correctly!

Is It Worth It?

It’s absolutely worth it to register for the promotion, because it doesn’t cost anything.  Especially if you know you’ll have paid IHG stays next year.

Depending on your list of offers, it could be very easy to complete some of the tasks (downloading and booking through the app, or paying with the Chase IHG credit card for example).

We Used IHG Points on Our 2nd Honeymoon at the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa

But for folks who don’t have plans to stay at IHG hotels in 2015, it’s probably NOT worth changing plans or doing a mattress run to complete the offers, especially if your list is long!

That said, 50,000 IHG points could get you a lot of Big Travel with Small Money.  For example, that’s enough for a night in an overwater bungalow at the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa!

So it really depends on your travel plans and if your list of offers is simple or ridiculous challenging. 🙂

Bottom Line

You could earn 50,000 bonus points (or more) with IHG’s new Set Your Sights promotion and staying between January 1, 2015, and April 30, 2015.  You can sign-up starting today.

Register your account to view your personalized offers.  It’s worth signing-up for the promotion anyway, even if you don’t have plans for paid stays at IHG hotels.

Depending on your list of tasks, you could earn a lot of bonus points.  But for some folks it might not be worth it.

  1. Do you figure that it includes Holiday Inn Express? Can’t tell from the fine print one way or another…

  2. @James: If the offer says you have to stay at a Holiday Inn, then a Holiday Inn express won’t count. If an offer says to stay at any IHG property, then a Holiday Inn Express would be fine.

  3. As a loyal client the last promo required 19 nights. This new one they want me to do 20 nights. After 100s if not 1000s of loyal nights I’m gone. These two promos made me hate IHG.

  4. Terms and conditions say it includes Holiday Inn Express, James. Daraius has a link above. I signed up for IHG several months back but have no paid stays. My offer is do 3 tasks and get 25,000. Do all 5 and get 25000 more. And then you get 10500 in various amounts for completing the tasks. Sort of like the first offer shown above but better. And then at some point, when I complete some of the tasks, it says new offers will be unlocked. The only difference in requirements is the offer shown above shows one task as a weekend stay. Mine is stay 2 Saturdays.

  5. I got the same thing listed as #1 above, which is why I asked about the Holiday Inn. Here’s the relevant fine print:
Must be an IHG® Rewards Club member and must register your member number in advance to participate in this Offer (“Registration”). Number of bonus points listed above will be awarded after required number of Qualifying Stays have been consumed by the member between 1 January 2015 and 30 April 2015 (both dates inclusive) at Holiday Inn® hotels worldwide. Stays at Holiday Inn Resorts , Holiday Inn Select, Holiday Inn Sunspree and the Holiday Inn Club Vacation properties count as Stays at Holiday Inn brand. This Offer is subject to the General Promotion Terms and standard IHG® Rewards Club Membership Terms and Conditions and earning structure, which can be obtained by visiting http://www.ihgrewardsclub.com. IHG® Rewards Club reserves the right to cancel, suspend and/or modify the Promotion/Offer at any time with or without notice. IHG® reserves the right of final interpretation of this Offer.
The fact that Holiday Inn Express is not specifically listed makes me think that it’s probably not included.

  6. Is this promo combine-able with the ‘In to the Nights’ promo? There seems to be an opportunity to earn an additional 50000 points!

  7. Can you book with IGH directly but through a portal? I don’t see it excluded but would hate to ruin my eligibility.

  8. According to points and pixie dust at boarding area, some have reported being disqualified for using a portal. Oh well!

  9. Also can you book now for a stay in January?

  10. I have been member of IHG for a long time. I tried to log in with my Priority club # but I could not log into set my sight deal. Are these two different products?

  11. Would using IHG’s best rate guarrantee to get the free night and price match disqualify my stay from this promotion?

  12. My tasks of “set you sight” are not too onerous, just a few nights of stay, and I intend to complete that. Nevertheless, I have completed a few of them two weeks ago, and still don’t see them posted in the progress report. How long do they update the status?
