I wrote about the increased 50,000 mile sign-up bonus on the Barclaycard US Airways card a few days ago.

Thanks to Million Mile Secrets readers for pointing out a better offer for this card!

For a limited time, you can get 50,000 miles PLUS another 10,000 miles on your account anniversary.  The previous offer did not include the anniversary miles, so this is a much better deal.

This isn’t my link, but Emily and I will always tell you about better offers even when they don’t earn us a commission.

You’ll get a 50,000 mile bonus with the Barclaycard US Airways card after you make your 1st purchase and pay the $89 annual fee.  And when you renew your card in a year, you’ll get another 10,000 miles.

Note: Even though the offer says it’s specifically for US Airways Preferred members, this hasn’t generally been enforced on previous targeted offers.

  • 1 free checked bag for you and up to 4 companions on domestic flights and priority boarding
  • 25% discount on in-flight purchases like food and drink
  • 5,000 mile discount on award tickets (US Airways flights only)

US Airways and American Airlines are merging, so your US Airways miles will become American Airlines miles in the 2nd quarter of 2015.

At that time, this card will also offer:

  • $100 flight discount on your account anniversary if you spend more than $30,000 in a year
  • 10% rebate on redeemed miles, up to 10,000 miles each year

This deal could get you lots of Big Travel with Small Money!  For example, 50,000 miles (when they become American Airlines miles) is enough for an off-peak round-trip award ticket to Japan (October 1 to April 30).

Note: Because of the merger, the Barclaycard US Airways card will be discontinued.  So this could be your last opportunity to get this card with an increased sign-up bonus!

After the card is phased out, existing cardholders will receive the new Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator card, but it won’t be open to new applicants.

What If You’ve Already Applied for the Card?

If you recently applied for the Barclaycard US Airways card, either with the 40,000 mile bonus or 50,000 mile offer (without the anniversary miles), call Barclaycard to see if you can be matched to the better offer.

Don’t Be Afraid to Pick Up the Phone and Ask Barclaycard to Increase Your Bonus If You Applied Earlier
Million Mile Secrets readers and folks on FlyerTalk confirm that Barclaycard will often give you the extra miles.  It sounds like you’ll have the most luck if you applied for your card after November 1, 2014.

But even if you got the card earlier than that, it’s worth a try!

Bottom Line

Many thanks to Million Mile Secrets readers for letting us know about a better offer for the Barclaycard US Airways card.  You’ll get 50,000 miles after your 1st purchase and payment of the $89 annual fee, plus 10,000 miles on your card anniversary.

Update:  Some folks report being denied for not being a Preferred member, so you may want to consider the Barclaycard US Airways 50,000 mile card (without the anniversary miles) instead.

Even though we don’t earn a commission for this deal, Emily and I will always share better offers with our readers!

If you’ve recently applied for the card with a lower sign-up bonus, call Barclaycard to see if they’ll match you to the better offer.  Many folks have been successful!
