  1. Cane I buy $33 of stuff at once and pay for it by $11 on each of three different registered cards as split tender, and get three seperate $10 credits?

  2. This may be the dumbest article you have ever written.

  3. @David – yes you could split your purchase into separate payments on different AMEX cards if the merchant will allow it (and you don’t have a long line of anxious shoppers behind you!) One caveat, however – to get the $10 credit 3X, the purchases must be made at 3 different merchants on one AMEX card.

  4. Will I get 3x credit for three transactions, each at a different physical address of a chain of stores, all stores owned by same corporation, three seperate purchases, same DBA?

  5. Karen – You can use the credit 3x in the same store! However, AMEX may think its fraud to have the same amounts charged in sequence but if it goes through you will get the credit. In the $33 case just make a 10, 11, 12$ split tender on the same card and it will work without problems.

  6. David – each time you charge $10 or more today on an amex card you have registered you will get a 10 credit even in the same store up to 3x. I have done it for the past 4 years with no problems!

  7. @Smay – From what I recall, AMEX hasn’t ever required 3 separate purchases of $10 each on Small Business Saturday – it used to be you only had to make 1 purchase per card of $25. I called AMEX yesterday and asked about the 3X spending – and at least the rep I spoke to told me the purchases must be made @ 3 separate stores. She said that’s the idea – that AMEX wants us to spread our spending around. Maybe another AMEX rep would give a different answer, but 3 separate stores per card is my understanding

What you can do, though, is to make 1 purchase at 1 store on each of several AMEX cards. Hope this helps…..

  8. Sorry karen, you are wrong and the Amex rep is clueless. Read the promo faqs. You do not need to go to different stores.

  9. If your item is under $10 but you add tip to make it over $10, does that count towards the credit? Thanks!!

  10. Well. This is clear as mud.

To be safe I did only one plastic per store, and no split tenders. Except I did one test case of using one plastic twice in same store. That worked, (so far.)

  11. This turned out to be a lot trickier than I expected. To start with, the Amex map is TERRIBLE. It only shows 10 locations at a time and I had to forward through 10 separate maps to see all the participating businesses in the zip code I was in (I was out of town, so not familiar with the shop names). Then I discovered that this neighborhood had co-opted the term “Small Business Saturday” to mean whatever the local merchants wanted it to mean. Many shops in this area DO NOT ACCEPT AMEX, but claimed to be participating because they had a sale that day! So I certainly hope there is no requirement to make every transaction in a different store, since my husband and I made 9 of our 15 purchases in one bookstore. I got a confirmation email for each one, so I think they will all go through.

  12. Anyone get their credits yet? I did this on all of my cards and have only gotten a few of the credits and not more than 1 on any card. Anyone else with this problem?

  13. I did four different cards and still haven’t gotten the credits either

  14. I used several cards and have not gotten any credits either. For some I got emails, but not all. And no credits yet.

  15. Same here, used four cards but i see only 2 of them got 1 $10 credit each.

  16. I see my credits today. They showed up today dated Dec 1. I received 3 credits (totalling $30) for one card at the same merchant and had multiple cards on my account (each received the $30 credit). Great deal, glad to see it worked.
