And JetBlue has a deal on award flights, also ending tomorrow.  You’ll get 20% of your points back when you book an award ticket (but not right away).

There are some restrictions, which I’ll explain.

You’ll get 50% off the base fare (not taxes and fees) on First Class and Main Cabin Select (Premium Economy) tickets if you book by 11:59 pm Pacific Time on November 14, 2014.

Use promotion code PERK50 when choosing your flights.  The sale is valid for travel between November 20, 2014, and November 28, 2014.

The Discount Is Applied to the Base Fare Only (NOT Taxes and Fees)

This could be a great opportunity for folks to try out First Class or Main Cabin Select for about the same price (or even less than) a coach class ticket!

For example, a 1-way ticket between Chicago and Los Angeles in coach class costs ~$290.  But with this sale, you could get a Main Cabin Select ticket for $181, or a First Class ticket for $334.  That’s a very good deal!

Cheers! You Can Get a Main Cabin Select Seat for Less Than the Price of a Coach Class Ticket

And this is an even better deal because it’s valid for Thanksgiving travel.  Normally, flights booked around major holidays are very expensive, so this could work out very well if you need a last-minute flight.

There are a few restrictions.  According to the terms and conditions:

  • You can only get the discount on itineraries for up to 2 people (so if you’re traveling as a larger group, you’ll have to make separate reservations)
  • If you change or cancel your flights, you’ll pay fees and lose the discount on Main Cabin Select fares (you won’t pay fees on First Class changes or cancellations, just the difference in fare)
  • You can’t apply the promo code to prior bookings

Note:   You’ll get 1 free checked bag if you book a Main Cabin Select ticket, and 2 free checked bags with a First Class ticket.  That’s an extra savings compared to a non-refundable coach class ticket, because you’d normally be charged $25 to check a bag.

Remember, you’ll get free food, drink, and entertainment in both Main Cabin Select and First Class.  And lots of extra legroom!

Treat Yourself to a First Class Experience on Virgin America

If you book a flight, don’t forget to use a credit card that earns bonus points on airline tickets.

For example, the American Express Premier Rewards Gold card earns 3 points per $1 you spend on flights booked directly with airlines.  Or you could use the Chase Sapphire Preferred card to earn 2 points per $1 spent on travel.

Emily and I won’t be able to take advantage of this deal, but I know lots of folks will!  Some flights are already sold out, so if you want to book a ticket, I’d do it quickly.  Remember, the sale ends tomorrow, November 14, 2014, at 11:59 pm Pacific Time.

2.   Get 20% of Your Points Back on JetBlue

Link:  JetBlue 20% Points Rebate

If you book an award ticket on JetBlue before 11:59 pm (local or Eastern Time, whichever is earlier) November 14, 2014, you’ll get 20% of your points back!

This deal is valid for travel between today and January 31, 2015.  Points will be automatically returned to your account 4 to 6 weeks after the end of the travel period.

Get 20% of Your Points Back When You Book a JetBlue Award Ticket

JetBlue has a revenue-based frequent flyer program, which means the number of points required for an award flight depends on the price of a paid ticket.

Normally, 1 JetBlue point is worth ~1.5 cents towards the cost of a ticket.

For example, a $150 ticket would cost ~10,000 points.

But because you’ll get 20% of the points back, you’d only pay 8,000 points for the same $150 ticket.  So with this deal, your points are worth ~1.9 cents each ($150 cost of ticket / 8,000 points).

Get Discounted Award Seats on JetBlue, but Book Before November 14, 2014

This could be an even better deal for folks who are targeted for the 40% American Express transfer bonus to JetBlue.  Especially if you book cheaper, short-haul flights.

And remember, you always get your 1st checked bag free on JetBlue.

Note:   Only new bookings qualify for the 20% points rebate.  And if you change your reservation to dates outside of the travel period, you won’t get any points back.

Bottom Line

Virgin America is having a 50% off sale on Main Cabin Select and First Class tickets.  Book by November 14, 2014, at 11:59 pm Pacific Time, for travel between November 20, 2014, and November 28, 2014.

Use promotion code PERK50 to get the discount.

And JetBlue will give you 20% of your points back when you book an award ticket before 11:59 pm (local or Eastern time, whichever is earlier) November 14, 2014.  The deal is valid for travel between today and January 31, 2015.
