  1. Hello Daraius,

I have a question regarding what year the 50,000 bonus points will count for in my instance. I was at the airport on September 22nd and they offered the personal Southwest card with the big bonus but I was worried about signing up with more that 3 months to go before the end of the year. At the airport they assured me the three months wouldn’t start until I activated the card, so I signed up. Then I called and was told the 90 days started as soon as I was approved but there was an additional 10 day grace period added for me to receive the card which put me just barely into January. Then, when I activated the card, I was told there is no 10 day grace period and that puts me at December 22nd for my deadline.

My question is, do the bonus points count during the year I earn them or the year I receive them assuming they post in January? Am I still in shape to achieve the companion pass in 2015 if I complete all the spend in the latter half of December?

    Thanks,
    Bert

  2. If you get the spend done by Dec 22nd, and your statement doesn’t close until sometime in Jan., you will be ok because the 50k will post in January. The 110k points need to all post in same calendar year.

  3. I cant find the last time the southwest plus for 50,000 was available. Any thoughts of when that might come around?

  4. 50k Southwest Plus Personal

Yeah I’m really hoping a 50k offer for the southwest plus per

  5. I recently closed two personal SW cards, which I’d used to get a companion pass last year. My pass will expire in December and I would love to get it again. Do you think I’d get approved for a new personal card now? Combined with a new business card, I’m hoping to get the points needed for a new comp pass!!

  6. Along the same line as Rachel – I currently have the other versions of the Southwest card. Both personal and business. Can I also get these two at the same time or should I cancel the others first. Should there be a period of time to wait to apply again if I cancel the other ones?

  7. I just applied with the link and got this message:

Thank you for submitting a credit card application to Chase.

Here’s what you can expect next:

We’ll let you know of our decision through U.S. mail within the next 30 days. Please don’t resubmit this application while waiting for our decision.

If we approve your application, we’ll send your card and other important information to you by U.S
mail. Once you receive your card, call the number on the sticker right away so you can take advantage of everything your card has to offer.

If we don’t approve your application, we’ll send you a letter explaining why.

Thank you for applying for a Chase credit card

  8. Is your link to the Southwest Premier Personal Card still working for the 50000 RR points? Do you expect to see 50000 point offers soon(before Black Friday) for the Southwest Plus Personal and Plus Business cards?

i Just applied mine 2 days ago, and got the exact same message. i called them up and they asked me a few questions.
    and i got approved today.

  10. Anyone get a confirmation of the 50K bonus?
I’m not a basher generally but I think this is borderline irresponsible to post about a 50K offer being back, only to link you to a FT posting that leads to a landing page, that doesn’t state the actual bonus.
Some of us only have so many bullets in the gun and pulling the trigger on something so il-defined is dangerous to me

    • @Bert – They count when they post to your account, so they have to post in 2015 to count for the companion pass next year. When does your statement close? If you complete the spending on say, December 18, but your statement doesn’t close until after the 1st, you should be fine.

Dario – It is usually available every 3 to 4 months.

  11. Ferry
I applied on the 24th and called on Monday and got CS telling me the app is still pending review and you will get a letter in the mail in a couple of weeks…. Then I called Tuesday morning and got the same line from CS and then called again on Tuesday afternoon and got the several questions and then was approved. 🙂

  12. Anyone get the Business card yet and can verify the 50K?

  13. Thank you Daraius and Lynn!

  14. Hi,

do people generally cancel the card after they use the miles? My $99 annual fee for the Chase Southwest just kicked in.

  16. Can anyone who has been approved verify that they received the 50k miles? Thanks!

  17. Kelli – I just received my business card in the mail yesterday 11/3 and it did not have any info with the card about the 50,000 miles after $2,000 spend so I called Chase and they confirmed that I will get the 50,000 miles after $2,000 spend. 🙂

  18. @JohnD, thanks very much!

  19. Darius, We love your blog and are constantly sending friends to it to learn more from you (and of course, to use your links, when possible!) My husband and I have recently applied for SW personal and business cards. My husband’s business card was declined because they said since he is a financial advisor for a major bank that they are competitors and he doesn’t qualify for a business account. The thing that doesn’t make sense is that he has been approved by Chase before for a business card under the same business name. I think we may have made the mistake of applying for it as a corporation (since that’s what he is an employee of) when maybe we should have applied as a sole proprietor. He uses his business cards when he buys client gifts, marketing materials, etc., and he is not reimbursed by the firm for those. Anyway, we absolutely hate the thought of losing our prospective companion pass status, because it has helped our family of 5 travel to many, many places we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to afford. In your opinion, is it worth another call to Chase to see if they can reprocess the application as a sole proprietor instead of linked to his bank employer? And if they say “no,” can he reapply this soon for the same card as a sole proprietor or will they automatically deny him since he just applied and was declined? Many thanks and sorry for such a long winded question!

  20. Wife can get Marriot Chase card.
can she transfer the pts towards my Southwest companion pass for which I am accumulating the 110k pts?

    • @Nancy – Thanks for reading! That’s very strange and I’ve never heard of someone being denied because he works for a competing bank! Yes, I’d absolutely call back and explain that he was confused when entering the application, and could they please re-process it. Good luck!

@rick – Yes, she can transfer points to your account. And you can then transfer them to Southwest!

  21. Darius,
Which current credit cards offer primary car rental insurance. I did not renew bu chase united personal credit card which I always used for car rentals. I thought one of citi credit cards has primary insurance or a different chase card but I’m not finding this info. Could you let me know. Thanks, Lynda
