3 Nights at the Park Hyatt Chicago Could Earn You a $150 AMEX Statement Credit

The $150 AMEX credit is a separate AMEX Offer so you won’t find it with other AMEX Offers.  You do NOT have to be targeted, anyone with an eligible American Express card (corporate and prepaid cards like Bluebird and Serve are not eligible) can get the offer.

Is the $150 AMEX Credit Worth it?

Sometimes when you have to book through certain websites to take advantage of promotions, you pay more.  So I wanted to see if it was worth the $150 AMEX credit booking through the Chicago Fall Escapes website.

Courtyard Marriott Magnificent Mile Chicago Downtown

Booking 3 nights at the Courtyard Marriott Magnificent Mile Chicago Downtown through the Chicago Fall Escapes website for November 7, 2014, to November 10, 2014, will cost ~$780.

150 AMEX Credit At Select Chicago Hotels Through December 17, 2014

You’ll Pay ~$780 for 3 Nights at the Courtyard by Marriott Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile

You’ll pay ~$733 booking on the Marriott website or through Kayak.

150 AMEX Credit At Select Chicago Hotels Through December 17, 2014

Booking Directly With Marriott or on Kayak Saves You ~$50

You’ll pay ~$50 more booking through the Chicago Fall Escapes website, but you get a $150 AMEX statement credit.  So you’re ahead ~$100 ($150 AMEX statement credit – ~$50 additional cost of hotel).

But if you have elite status with Marriott, you will NOT get elite stay credit and you might not get your elite benefits such as free upgrades.  So that might not be worth it.

You can change or cancel your reservation without penalty before November 6, 2014.  But you have to do it through the Chicago Fall Escapes website.  And I couldn’t find a phone number or link to cancel or change a booking.

Park Hyatt Chicago

3 nights at the Park Hyatt Chicago through the Chicago Fall Escapes website for November 7, 2014, to November 10, 2014, will cost a non-refundable rate of ~$1,319.

150 AMEX Credit At Select Chicago Hotels Through December 17, 2014

3 Nights at the Park Hyatt Chicago Through Chicago Fall Escapes Costs ~$1,319

Whereas you can pay a ~$1,211 nonrefundable rate through Booking.com via Kayak, a savings of ~$108 (~$1,319 cost to book through Chicago Fall Escapes – ~$1,211 cost to book through Kayak).

150 AMEX Credit At Select Chicago Hotels Through December 17, 2014

You’ll Save ~$108 Booking 3 Nights at the Park Hyatt Chicago Via Kayak

If you have Hyatt elite status, you will NOT get elite stay credit booking through Chicago Fall Escapes or Kayak.  So it could cost you more than the $150 AMEX statement credit is worth!

Hilton Chicago Towers

You can book 3 nights at the Hilton Chicago Towers for November 7, 2014, to November 10, 2014, through Chicago Fall Escapes for ~$708.

150 AMEX Credit At Select Chicago Hotels Through December 17, 2014

You’ll Pay ~$708 for 3 Nights at the Hilton Chicago Through Chicago Fall Escapes

But if you have Hilton elite status, you will NOT earn elite stay credit and you might not get your elite benefits such as free internet, breakfast and upgrades.

You can change or cancel your reservation without penalty before November 6, 2014.  But you have to do it through the Chicago Fall Escapes website.  And I couldn’t find any contact number or link to cancel or change a booking.

Booking directly through Hilton (or Kayak) for 3 nights on November 7, 2014, to November 10, 2014, you’ll pay ~$707, ~$1 less.

150 AMEX Credit At Select Chicago Hotels Through December 17, 2014

You Save ~$1 Booking Directly With Hilton AND You Get all Your Hilton Elite Benefits Like Free Internet, Breakfast, and Upgrades

If you do NOT have Hilton elite status, booking through Chicago Fall Escapes is worth the $150 AMEX statement credit.

But for someone with Hilton elite status, because you don’t get elite benefits, it may or may not be worth it.  That said, I’d rather save $150 than get free internet or breakfast!

Bottom Line

You can get a $150 AMEX statement credit when you stay 3 nights at participating Chicago hotels through December 17, 2014.

Anyone with an eligible American Express card (corporate and prepaid cards like Bluebird and Serve are not eligible) can get the $150 AMEX statement credit.

You should compare the rate on Chicago Fall Escapes versus Kayak and the hotel’s website.  That’s because sometimes the Chicago Fall Escapes rate is NOT a good deal even with the $150 AMEX statement credit!

If you have elite status, you will NOT get elite stay credit and you might not get your elite benefits such as free internet, breakfast and upgrades because you’re not booking directly with the hotel.

So if you have hotel elite status, it might not be worth taking advantage of this offer.  But it depends on the price!
