You’ll earn the bonus for up to $1,500 in purchases this quarter, for a maximum of 7,500 Chase Ultimate Rewards points or $75 cash back. Perfect timing for your holiday shopping!
Remember, you have to activate the bonus. It doesn’t happen automatically. Activation is quick, and you can register until December 14, 2014.
What’s the Chase Freedom Card?

Emily and I love the Chase Freedom card because it’s easy to earn 5X the number of Ultimate Rewards points (up to $1,500 or 7,500 points a quarter) for purchases we would make anyway. This quarter’s categories are especially appealing to us because we’ll be doing lots of holiday shopping!
The 5X bonus categories are different each quarter. If you spend $6,000 a year ($1,500 X 4 quarters) you’ll get 30,000 Ultimate Rewards points or $300 cash back.
The Chase Freedom is a fee-free card, so it’s a good card to keep for a long time. This could improve your credit score by increasing the length of your credit history.
Instead of redeeming points for cash back, I prefer transferring points to the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Bold, or Chase Ink Plus. From there, you can transfer points to airlines and hotels like United, Southwest, Hyatt, and Marriott and get lots of Big Travel with Small Money!
It’s Easy to Maximize the Bonus This Quarter

Emily and I will use our Chase Freedom cards for our holiday shopping at Amazon, Zappos, and department stores. Not all department stores qualify for the bonus, so check this list to be sure your store is eligible. Most major department stores, like Macy’s, JCPenney, and Sears are on the list.
That said, stores like Target, Walmart, and Costco are NOT on the list.
Don’t Forget to Use a Shopping Portal to Earn More Points!
If you’re shopping online, you can use a shopping portal to earn even more points. You can check Evreward before you shop to find the best cash back or bonus point deals.
This quarter’s bonus categories also line up nicely with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, so if you’re a deal seeker you could do very well! I’ll be doing my shopping online to avoid crowds and get portal bonuses.
Today, you can start earning 5X points (5% cash back) at Amazon, Zappos.com, and many department stores when you use your Chase Freedom card. But you have to activate the bonus before December 14, 2014, to get the points.
How will you get the most points for your Chase Freedom spending this season?
