How Can You Maximize This Quarter’s Spending?

Even though today is the last day, it’s not too late to meet the $1,500 maximum spending for the bonus this quarter.

You could ago online and make purchases at Kohls.com if you can’t get to a store or gas station today.  But don’t forget to check Evreward and use a shopping portal to earn extra points at Kohl’s!

Ultimate Rewards points from the Chase Freedom can’t be transferred by themselves to air and hotel partners.

But if you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred, (no longer offered) Chase Ink Bold or Chase Ink Plus, you can combine Ultimate Rewards points from the Chase Freedom.

Here are step-by-step instructions on how to transfer points from the Chase Freedom to a card which allows you to transfer them to hotels and airlines.

What About Next Quarter?

It’s too late to activate the bonus this quarter, but you can still register for the bonus for October, November, and December.  For the 4th quarter, you’ll get 5 points per $1 you spend, or 5% cash back, at Amazon.com, Zappos.com, and certain department stores.

And because most folks do their holiday shopping in the last quarter, it’s easy to earn extra points on gifts and decorations.  There are so many department stores where you can earn 5X points!

Bottom Line

Today is the last day to earn 5X Ultimate Rewards points or 5% cash back when you use your Chase Freedom card at gas stations and Kohl’s department stores.

Tomorrow, you can start spending at Amazon.com, Zappos.com, and certain department stores like Macy’s and JCPenney to get the most from your 4th quarter bonus.

  1. Just FYI…I emailed Chase few days back and they said that the bonus points are awarded based on “posted date” instead of “transaction date.” If you make purchases today and they don’t post until, let’s say Oct 2nd, you won’t get the 5%. Historically, it has taken around 2 days for me for transactions to get posted.

  2. When shopping Kohls, I can’t seem to beat their 10-20-30% off for using the Kohl’s card. Kohl’s gift cards also don’t qualify for this generous discount.

  3. I have been to 5 gas stations in the last few weeks, all of them and Kohl’s have been out of Amazon gift cards. One CircleK that had them refused to accept c/c for it 🙁

  4. Is there something with a similar promotion with the Chase Sapphire card?

  5. @Maora, Thank you for verifying this because I called Chase once and told me that the bonus points were awarded based on the “purchase/swiping date” since the actual posting date could take a few and vary. You never know which is true, but since you have gotten something in writing, I would go by what you were told.
