Which Uber Ride Will You Choose?

Benefits of Using Uber

I like Uber because it is easy to order a ride straight from your smartphone using the Uber app.  You can watch your driver make their way to your location via the map on your phone.

I prefer using UberX because it is usually the cheapest option!

And it is completely cash free.  That’s because you make a payment with your credit card through the app.  Which means more miles & points!

If you pay with your Chase Sapphire Preferred card, you will earn 2X Chase Ultimate Rewards points because it’s a travel purchase.

And you’ll earn 2X points when you add your AMEX Membership Rewards card to your account.  You can also use American Express Membership Rewards points to pay for your Uber rides.

Bottom Line

Uber is an easy way to get around town.  You can order your ride, watch your driver’s progress, and pay all from your smartphone.

And this is a great time to try Uber because you can save $30 on your 1st ride.

  1. I used Daraius’ Uber referral link to get the $30 credit. He also gets a $30 credit. I then created my own Uber referral link which my wife used to get us each a $30 credit just like Daraius and I received when I used his link. That $90 credit went a long way getting us from the airport to the Grand Hyatt Seattle, and from the hotel to the cruise ship, and then from the ship back to the airport.

I downloaded the app to her phone and was able to log in/out from her Uber account to mine. Each account had a different credit card on file so Uber wouldn’t think I was using multiple account to game them. Fortunately I needed to meet the minimum spending requirement for the bonus on our new Starwood card. And Amex cards give the authorized user a different account number than the main account holder (two card numbers, but only one account).

We had a little trouble getting from the ship to the airport but mainly because our phone needed to be power cycle after all those different roaming networks at sea, in Canada, Alaska, etc. The app worked fine but the driver was unable to call us so he didn’t come at first and we had to start over a couple times. To prevent any anomaly like this, or in case you forgot your phone was forwarded, it’s probably best to contact the driver from the app as soon as his/her picture pops up so you can give your description and precise location which is also handy if you’re in a crowded pick-up area.

Otherwise, the flat rate charged is unbeatable and there’s no tipping. Try it! And if the info I’ve provided was helpful, you can use my referral link to get yourself (and me) a $30 credit.

  2. Just to clarify, if I were to use UberX for my family of four, the price quoted on the site is the price I would pay for the car, not per person.

  3. Also, does the credit ever expire?

  4. @Mark D. – Uber credits don’t expire and the price quoted is for the ride and not per person.
    Uber credits are:
    Worth up to $30 each
    Work anywhere in the USA
    Good on all ride options

  5. Thanks Matthew!

One more question. Will UberX fit 4 plus luggage?

  6. So this will not work in Paris?

  7. I used MMS link and created an account for my husband, downloaded the app….but I don’t see the credit anywhere. Where does the credit show up?

  8. @Lively

Have you added a valid credit card to the account? Might need to fill up the profile with this info.

  9. @Mark D. – Many of the UberX are just a Prius so I’d go bigger for a family of four with luggage.
