  1. The fine print also says not valid on gift cards.
    http://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/marketing/visa-checkout/index.html

Not valid on eReaders including Amazon Kindle®, Apple® products, Bose® products, Epson® ink and toner, custom printing orders placed online, services, promotional products, gift cards…

  2. Doesn’t work for GC.

  3. You could stack this with the $15 off $100 Amex Sync offer for an even sweeter deal!

  4. @Tonei,

Even if you are allowed to use an AE card through Visa Checkout like Daraius states, if the charge through Visa Checkout does not code as a Staples purchase to your AE card then you will not qualify for the AE sync offer.

  5. The check-out screen told me my purchase (two $200 visa gift cards for $413.90) didn’t meet the minimum purchase requirement for the $25 coupon/discount. So I accepted the $15 Amex offer at americanexpress.com and paid with my new Starwood card. Maybe gift card purchases quit working?

  6. @Kent C – Visa Check-Out’s pop-up window sends you back to staples.com to click the purchase button. There’s a $1 charge from V ME BY VISA to verify the Amex card I put on file, but there’s also the $413.90 charge by http://www.staples.com.

  7. @MMS, it was my fault that I did not read the fine print. The example of check-out screen seemed to mislead me because of $413.90 = 206.95 * 2 ($200 visa gift card); thus, it implied that discount worked for buying visa gift card. Thanks.

  8. Plus if you go to staples.com through the Ultimate Rewards portal, you’ll get four points per dollar right now. I normally use my Ink Plus Visa to additionally get the 1% Visa Savings Edge discount but this time the $15 Amex deal was better which did code correctly as Staples on my online amex account statement.

  9. @Nguyen – I also assumed Daraius’ $413.90 example was for a couple $200 Visa gift cards. @Daraius – Please advise.

  10. And before you ask, yes I left 5 times Ultimate Rewards points on the table by not using my Ink Plus at staples.com, but I need to meet minimum spending on the Starwood card.

  11. the $413.90 example is misleading, doing this for commission is a bad example for a blogger

  12. Yes his example is for two gift cards so probably bad choice as an example, but he does clearly state above, “Gift cards are also excluded in the terms.”

  13. I’ve been unsuccessful twice recently in getting the additional 4 points from shopping at Staples thru the UR portal. I SM’d them twice and they requested a pdf receipt (yes they had tracked me going thru their site to Staples)
I haven’t sent the receipt b/c it clearly shows “gift cards”
Anyone have any luck sending a receipt and getting your additional points?
