Million Mile Secrets reader Dana comments:

I’m still pretty new to miles so wondering if I already have the AMEX Delta personal card and get approved for the AMEX Delta business card, will I still get the sign-up bonus?  Or is it considered the same product?

The sign-up bonus on the AMEX Gold Delta personal, AMEX Gold Delta business, and AMEX Platinum Delta personal cards has increased to 50,000 Delta miles through September 8, 2014.  To get the bonus, spend $1,000 in purchases with your new card within 3 months.

If Dana Already Has the AMEX Gold Delta Personal Card, Can She Still Get The Sign-Up Bonus for the AMEX Gold Delta Business Card?

Yes, she can!

Dana can apply for the AMEX Gold Delta Business card if she has a business.  Many folks don’t realize that they qualify for a business credit card.  So check out my post on 3 Ways You May Qualify for a Business Card.  But don’t lie!

If Dana signs-up for the AMEX Gold Delta Business card by September 8, 2014, she will get 50,000 Delta miles when she spends $1,000 within 3 months.  This is an increase from the previous 30,000 Delta Airlines miles sign-up bonus.

Here are some of the other perks that come with this card:

  • $50 statement credit after 1st Delta Airlines purchase
  • 1st checked bag free for you and 8 others traveling on the same reservation
  • Priority boarding
  • 20% off in-flight purchases (food, drink, and entertainment)
  • $95 annual fee is waived the 1st year
  • Terms & conditions apply

And the business card won’t impact Dana’s credit as much as a personal card, because your business credit line and spending are NOT reported to the 3 major credit bureaus.

Yes, You Can Get the Bonus If You Already Have the Personal Card

American Express considers the personal and business versions of a card to be 2 different products.

So Dana should be able to get the 50,000 Delta Airlines miles with the AMEX Gold Delta Business card when she completes the minimum spending (as long as she is approved for the card).

Bottom Line

You can now get 50,000 Delta Airlines miles with the AMEX Gold Delta Business card and 2 other Delta Airlines credit cards for a limited time.

If you’ve already received the sign-up bonus for the AMEX Gold Delta personal card, you could be able to get the sign-up bonus for the business card.

  1. I see the T&C say that you wont be eligible if you had any Delta product in the last 60 days. I have just canceled a personal Delta card 10 days ago, will i still be eligible? Last time with a personal card they did not honor my bonus, and unfortunately, i found out only after i met the minimum spend…… Thank you

  2. Can you remind us what is the current status as to churning this card for both Amex personal and biz cards?

  3. I got instant approval for the personal card. Then applied for the business card and it was pending a call. They said since I applied for both on the same day, it will take a couple of days for approval. They said the same thing when I applied for the 2 Starwood cards I was approved for.

    approval.

Twice I’ve tried to get the bonus by playing the business vs personal thing and both times delta has told me I can and both times I after spending they told me no. I tried once with the delta gold and once with the amex gold card. for one of these i had the delta personal, cancelled and i thought it was 13 months but it was only 11 months 1 week and i got the business card. they wouldn’t give me the bonus or the $50 on a delta flight. again after i asked them. spoke over the phone and chat so i even had it in writing. wrote letters, nothing. now i’m trying the jetblue and starwood. If anyone has stories that contradict this in the last few months I’d love to hear since amex used to be easier but going back to february of this year is when all of this started happening for me with them.

  5. To echo what Stephen said, could you please let us know what the current status is for churning both the AMEX personal and biz cards? It seems to be an ever-changing situation with many cards and becoming impossible for the average person to keep up with. It would be great to have periodic updates for all cards or possibly include it when you introduce a new bonus offer. Thanks for all you do!

  6. There was a new rule that started in May, as i remember, about now only being able to get the bonus once on Amex cards. I applied for the Delta Gold Personal in April (for the third time) to get it once more before this rule change, but i think i recall something about business cards being exempt from this rule. Does anyone know? Has anyone churned an Amex business card since May and gotten the bonus? I’d like to get the business card while this deal is available, but I want to be sure i’ll get the bonus. Thanks for any input.

  7. I first got the Gold Delta Amex in May 2010. Then again in March 2013. After I made the minimum spend of $750 and waited 3 months for the bonus that never showed up, I called and the rep said the min spend for the bonus was $1k. A clear lie. I applied for the card again this year in June and have made the min $1k spend 4 weeks ago. Still waiting to get the bonus credited…. and will call Amex this week if it doesn’t happen. Since I haven’t received the bonus yet, I could ask for a bump up to 50k? I’m also wondering if I could get the other two card’s bonuses or it’s only 1 bonus per lifetime now for these 3 cards?

  8. Hi, I have a Gold Delta card. I called American Express for something else, and somehow they got me into applying a Platinum Delta ( personal ). Got approved for the $195 fee, which is still worth it for 50,000 miles. AX personnel explained that you can still get a Platinum Delta even if you have a Gold Delta. AX treats them as two different products.

  9. Thanks so much Daraius! I went through with the application and was instantly approved. Your blog has been most helpful to someone like myself who is new to this miles “game”. Thank you so much for all of the great info!

  10. Anybody applied for the Delta Gold and gotten the bonus while having another AMEX personal card? I have the SPG and the AMEX website said current american express card holders may not be eligible. I hate to get the card and then find out its not eligible for the bonus. I’m thinking I’ll probably wait until next year after I have cancelled my SPG card.

  11. I closed my delta business card 1.5+ years ago, can I get the delta bonus again for my new business?

    • @Dana – Congrats and thanks for your kind words!

@Everett – I’d click on the application and see if it suggests additional restrictions for you.

@Trevor – According to the current terms, you may be able to. But double check the terms.
