You can get 1 free night in a Category 1 to 4 Marriott hotel after approval and 70,000 Marriott points with the Marriott Rewards Premier card after spending $2,000 in 3 months.

You also get 1 free night in a Category 1 to 5 Marriott hotel on your card anniversary each year.

You Could Use the Free Night From the Marriott Card to Stay at the Shanghai Marriott Hotel Parkview and Save ~$149

Marriott Rewards Premier Card

  • 1 Free night in a Category 1 to 4 hotel upon approval
  • 1 Free night in a Category 1 to 5 hotel on your card anniversary each year
  • 5X Marriott points per $1 spent at Marriott
  • 2X Marriott points per $1 spent on car rentals, airline tickets purchased directly from the airline and restaurants
  • 1 Marriott point per $1 spent everywhere else
  • NO foreign transaction fees
  • $85 annual fee (waived the 1st year)
  • 15 nights credit towards elite status (so you get Marriott Silver status)

Note:  Free night certificates could take 6 to 8 weeks after approval to appear in your account.  And they expire 6 months from the issue date.

You get 1 free night at a Category 1 to 4 Marriot hotel upon approval, and 1 free night each year on your card anniversary at a Category 1 to 5 Marriott hotel.  Some expensive cities, like Miami and San Diego have several Category 1 to 4 Marriott hotels.

But they may not be in the heart of the city.  And they are usually the mid-tier hotels…but they are free!

You could use your free card anniversary night at the Renaissance Long Beach Hotel which is a 10 minute walk to the Long Beach Shoreline Marina.

70000 Points And 2 Free Nights With The Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Card

You Could Stay 1 Night Free at the Renaissance Long Beach Hotel and Visit Disneyland, the Queen Mary, and Knott’s Berry Farm

Should You Get the Marriott Rewards Premier Card?

You get 15 nights credit towards Marriott elite status after approval and each card anniversary.  This only gives you Marriott Silver elite status which doesn’t give you much except for late check-out and a 20% bonus on Marriott points for paid stays.

However, for folks who stay at Marriott hotels a lot, this could be worth it because it would get you closer to Marriott Gold elite status (free lounge access, breakfast, internet, and room upgrades).

And it could help you reach Marriott Platinum elite status which gives you (free lounge access, breakfast, internet, room upgrades, and United Airlines Silver elite status.

And you get unlimited, 1 night elite status credits for every $3,000 you spend on the card.

Note:   It can take 6 to 8 weeks for the elite credit to be credited to your account.

With 70,000 Marriott points you can stay 1 night at the Ritz-Carlton, New York Central Park.  The Ritz-Carlton is part of Marriott hotels.

Marriott Card vs Marriott Rewards Premier Card?

Link:   Marriott Rewards Card

If you want a lower annual fee of $45 (waived the 1st year), you could get the Chase Marriott Rewards personal card that gives you 30,000 points after spending $1,000 within 3 months.  You get a lower sign-up bonus, less Marriott points per dollar earned, and you do NOT get the free night in a Category 1 to 5 Marriott hotel each card anniversary.

The $40 savings ($85 Marriott Rewards Premier card annual fee – $45 Marriott card annual fee) in annual fee costs is far less than what you’d save for 1 night in a Category 1 to 5 Marriott hotel!

70000 Points And 2 Free Nights With The Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Card

For an $85 Annual Fee, You Could Stay 1 Night Free at the Courtyard San Juan Miramar

So I would apply for the Marriott Rewards Premier personal card over the Marriott Card for the higher bonus, more Marriott points on spending, and the annual free night in a Category 1 to 5 Marriott hotel.

If you stay at Marriott hotels only occasionally, there might be another hotel card that is right for you and your travel goals.

Bottom Line

You can get 70,000 Marriott points and 1 free in a Category 1 to 4 Marriott hotel after approval and 1 free night in a Category 1 to 5 Marriott hotel on your card anniversary each year with the Marriott Rewards Premier card after completing the minimum spending.

The Marriott Rewards Premier card would be good for folks who stay at a lot of Marriott hotels where the 15 elite night credits will help them reach Marriott Gold elite status or Marriott Platinum elite status.  Even if you don’t have a lot of Marriott stays, it could be worth it to get a free night at the Ritz-Carlton, New York Central Park or for more nights at other hotels.

  1. Just a FYI, I recently applied for this card. I received the free night certificate before I actually received the physical credit card. I got the certificate about 5 days after applying.

  2. The last time they had this offered, I applied successfully and got the 70000 miles but they refused the free night certificate because I’d received one within the last five years from another Marriott card that I’d forgotten I’d even had it was so long ago. I called both Chase and Marriott but no luck. So be prepared for not getting free night certificate if you’d received one through a prior card in the past 5 years.

  3. Marriott Biz Card available for same sign up bonus, great for folks who have signed up for the consumer premier Marriott card in the last 24 months. Link: http://www.marriott.com/rewards/earn-points/credit-card-rewards.mi

  4. Theres a public application for personal card which is better. Spend $1,000 abd get every else the same. Including annual fee waived

  5. I cancelled my previous Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Card a year ago, Can I still apply for it again and get the 70k points and free night?

  6. Does anybody know if there is a time limit on free night certificate?
Can I use it next summer?

  7. @Sam – The certificate expires in 5 months from the date of issue.

  8. I applied again after 2.5 years and while I received the 70K, the denied the free night cert stating I could receive it only one time and had already gotten one from the previous card in 2011

  9. I currently have this card. Can you also apply for the Business Card and get an additional 15 credits toward elite membership? Getting silver is easy, but gold is pretty tough unless you travel a lot. Getting 30 credits might make it doable.

  12. Daraius,
There is a phone in offer for the Ritz-Carlton CC for 140,000 points with 2,000 spend in three months but $395 fee not waived. Call 1-888-846-7004 and mention offer code F5BP. Do you have an opinion on this offer compared to the Marriot offers
