I’ve written about the sign-up bonuses for American Airlines, US Airways, and United Airlines. But now you can earn 2,000 Delta miles and 1,000 Southwest points just for registering and dining out once.
But you have to be a new member . Existing members can’t get the bonus again unless you set up a new account. But that’s not something I’m comfortable doing.
Remember, this is a good way to keep your airline miles and points from expiring if you haven’t had any activity in your account!
5 Steps to 2,000 Delta Miles or 1,000 Southwest Points
1. Register for the New Member Enrollment Bonus
Be sure to check the box that allows the program to send you promotional emails. Then you’ll earn 3 Delta miles or Southwest points when you dine at participating restaurants.
You need to register for the Delta promotion by December 31, 2014. The Southwest promotion deadline is June 8, 2014.
2. Enter Your Address and Delta or Southwest Frequent Flyer Numbers
You’ll also be prompted to create a username and password.
3. Enter a Credit Card Number
This will be the card you use to earn bonus points when you dine at eligible restaurants. You may want to consider using a card that has restaurants as a category bonus, like the Chase Freedom (5X points until June 30, 2014) or the Chase Sapphire Preferred (2X points on restaurants always).
Note: You must use a different credit card for each program. If you register the same card for different programs, you’ll only earn points and miles in the last program you signed-up for.
Your credit card will NOT be charged! It’s on file so the Rewards Dining Program knows when you use that credit card at participating restaurants.
4. Spend at Least $30 ($25 for Southwest) at a Participating Restaurant
You need to spend at least $30 in Delta’s program, or $25 in Southwest’s program (including tax and tip) at a participating restaurant, bar, or club using the credit card you registered to activate the bonus. This amount needs to be on 1 bill and must be within 30 days of joining the program.
5. Complete a Review of the Restaurant
You’ll get an email a few days after your dine asking you to complete a survey and review. The review must be completed within 30 days of dining.
If you follow these steps, you’ll get 2,000 miles deposited into your Delta account or 1,000 points in your Southwest account within 6 to 8 weeks.
If you’re not registered in the Southwest or Delta dining programs, you can earn 1,000 to 2,000 miles just by signing-up, completing 1 dine from their list of restaurants, and writing a short review about your experience.
This is a good way to earn bonus points for doing something most folks do anyway. And even after the promotion is over, you’ll still earn 3 miles per $1 you spend at participating restaurants as long as you’ve opted-in for emails.
