There’s a new Marriott Rewards Premier business card from Chase.   When you are approved for this card you will get 1 free night in a category 1 to 4 Marriott hotel and 1 free night in a category 1 to 5 Marriott hotel for your card anniversary each year.

You will also get a 50,000 point sign-up bonus when you spend $1,000 within 3 months.

However, you can get 70,000 Marriott points with the Chase Marriott Reward Premier personal card for the same amount of spending.

The Marriott business card gives you:

  • 1 Free night in a category 1 to 4 hotel upon approval
  • 1 Free night in a category 1 to 5 hotel on your card anniversary
  • 5X points per $1 spent at Marriott
  • 2X per $1 at office supply stores, restaurants, on car rentals, airline tickets purchased directly from the airline, and cellular phone, landline, internet and cable TV.
  • 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases
  • NO foreign transaction fees
  • $99 annual fee waived for the 1st year
  • 15 nights credit towards elite status (so you get Marriott Silver status)

Note: Free night certificates can take 6 to 8 weeks after you’re approved to show up in your account.  And they expire 6 months from the date they are issued.

The free night you get for signing-up is limited to category 1 to 4 Marriot hotels and the yearly free night is limited to category 1 to 5 Marriott hotels.  These free nights won’t get you in many fancy hotels or in expensive cities, but there are lots of mid-tier hotels in many cities within those categories.

You could use your free night to stay at the Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit.

You Could Use the Free Night You Get With the Chase Marriott Business to Stay at the Bangkok Marriott and Save ~$180

Many folks think they don’t qualify for a business card, but take a look at my post on 3 Ways You May Qualify for a Business Credit Card.  If you need help completing the application, my post on Chase business card applications has tips.

Is This Card a Good Deal?

This card is very similar to the Chase Marriott Rewards Premier personal card, with a few exceptions.  The Marriott business card has extra 2X spending categories (office supply stores, phone, internet, and cable TV) that you won’t get with the Marriott Rewards Premier card.

However, the Marriott Rewards Premier card has a 70,000 point sign-up bonus when you spend $1,000 within 3 months and a lower annual fee of $85 (also waived the 1st year).

However, the Marriott business card gets you 15 nights credit towards Marriott elite status after your card anniversary.

So this could be worth it for folks who like Marriott elite status.  Marriott Silver status requires 10 nights, Marriott Gold elite status requires 50 nights and Platinum requires 75 nights.  You’ll get free Marriott Silver status with the card, but the benefits aren’t much (late check-out and 20% more points on paid stays).

You can also get extra night elite status credits for every $3,000 you spend on the card.

There is also a Chase Marriott Rewards personal card that gives you 30,000 points when you spend $1,000 within 3 months and a annual fee of $45 (waived the 1st year).

This card offers a lower sign-up bonus and less points per dollar than the other 2 Marriott cards.  But the Chase Marriott Rewards card might be  good for folks who are looking for a lower annual fee.

So I would apply for the Marriott Rewards Premier personal card over the Marriott Rewards Premier business card for the higher bonus and the lower annual fee.

50,000 Marriott points is enough for a night at the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua in Mauai.

The 70,000 Point Sign-up Bonus You Get With the Chase Marriott Personal Card Can Get You 1 Night Exploring New York City

And while the Marriott business card offers a bonus for spending at Office Supply stores, you can get 5X points on the same categories with the Chase Ink Bold & Chase Ink Plus.  And you can now get 60,000 bonus points when you spend $5,000 within 3 months on these cards.

However, the new Marriott business card might be a good deal for folks who have already received the sign-up bonus for the Marriott Rewards Premier card and want to earn more points.

If you aren’t sure if the Marriott is right for your personal goals, check out my post on How to Find Out Which Hotel Card Is Right for You.

Bottom Line

With the new Chase Marriott Rewards Premier business card you can get 1 free night at category 1 to 4 Marriott hotels (6 to 8 weeks after you sign-up) and 50,000 points when you spend $1,000 within 3 months.  You will also get 1 free night at category 1 to 5 Marriott hotels each year.

You can get many of the same benefits along with a higher sign-up bonus and lower annual fee with the Chase Marriott Premier personal card.  You can also get a higher sign-up bonus and higher category bonus with the Chase Ink Bold and Chase Ink Plus cards.

However, this may be a good option for folks who want to get some quick Marriott Rewards points and have already received the sign-up bonus on the Chase Marriott personal card, Chase Ink Bold, and Chase Ink Plus cards.  Or for those who want the 15 nights credits towards Marriott elite status with the business card.

  1. Is the business card also made out of metal?

  2. Do you see any issues with applying for all three cards?
    ———————————————————–

    – 50K points – Marriott Rewards Premier business card

    – 70K points – Marriott Reward Premier personal card

    – 30K points – Marriott Rewards Personal card
    ————————————————————
    150K Marriott Rewards points total

Does Chase limit you on the number of Marriott Reward cards you can hold or limit the amount of Chase cards one can have or apply for at one time?

  3. Will the points be transferable to Southwest Rapid Reward Chase card? I know they will not count toward rewards. Thanks!

  4. @Mike, you can transfer Marriott Points to Southwest Airlines and they will count toward the companion pass (https://www.marriott.com/rewards/usepoints/morerew.mi):

    10,000 Marriott = 2,000 Rapid Rewards Points
    20,000 Marriott = 5,000 Rapid Rewards Points
    30,000 Marriott = 10,000 Rapid Rewards Points
    70,000 Marriott = 25,000 Rapid Rewards Points
    140,000 Marriott = 50,000 Rapid Rewards Points

  5. Darius you wrote, ” You can also get extra night credits for every $3,000 you spend on the card.” what is the limit of free nights?

  6. If you have both the personal and business premier card does that net you 30 elite nights towards gold or platinum status?

  7. There are restrictions on the signup bonus if you are 1) a current consumer cardholder or 2) are a previous consumer cardholder who received a signup bonus in the last 24 months.

  8. Do the points have to be used within a year or you loose them? I am trying to plan ahead for a summer vacation next year.

  9. @Tony I think Darius meant to say “1 Elite credit for every $3,000 spent”.

ELITE NIGHT CREDIT: You will earn 1 Elite night credit for each $3,000 in Net Purchases. (“Net Purchases” are purchases of goods and services made by you or any authorized user on your account minus any returns or refunds, and do not include balance transfers, cash advances, cash-like charges such as travelers checks, foreign currency, and money orders, any checks that access your account, overdraft advances, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, or fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable.) We have the right to determine which purchases qualify for this offer. We reserve the right to change or end this offer at any time. There is no limit to the number of Elite nights that you can earn. Please allow 6-8 weeks for Elite nights to be credited to your Marriott Rewards account from the last day of each calendar month you qualify. To qualify for the Elite nights, your account must be open and not in default at the time of processing and fulfillment. Chase is not responsible for offer fulfillment or the provision of or failure to provide the stated benefits and services.

  10. Is this card different from their previous business version? It had a 30k sign up bonus after $1000 and has a $45 annual fee with NO annual night certificate… Would I be eligible for this new card since it is technically not the same as the old one?

  11. GetToThePoints

Decesion pending on both the Bus and Pers cards. Anything I should do to push this through or just sit tight and await snail mail answer?

  12. GetToThePoints

Rups, sorry for the misspelling, “decision”

  13. I agree with @Brian, but Darius can we apply for this card IF we already had the other 2 Marriott cards before? Does the company know or can you slip by within a certain time frame. I don’t have the new business card and would love to get it, but I have had 2 Marriott cards in the past. Advice?

  14. What is the difference between a free night and a free elite night credit?

  15. D –

I’m 8 nights short of Platinum status for Marriott. I have a 5-night trip coming up that will help me reach closer to Platinum status. But I have other offer from Rocketmiles which will offer 8000 UA miles. Is there any benefit of having Gold or Platinum status other than free upgrades, lounges etc? I know that being Marriott Platinum member, I can register for United Premium Silver status. Is it worth it? Or am I better off with 8k UA miles from Rocket miles? Also, I registered for SPG triple point promotion. Which one is more lucrative?

    • @GetToThePoints – I’d wait and then call.

@Tim krauss – If you don’t have the business card, it could be possible to get it.

@Courtenay – A free night means you can stay in a room for free! A free night elite status credit means that it counts towards the number of nights needed to earn elite status with the hotel.

@ Sam – That’s a tough call! I’d go with the Marriott status just to get United status which gets you a free bag on the plane. But it really depends on your travel goals.

@Amy – It should be back soon.

  16. Your links for the Marriott Personal card with the 70,0000 point bonus does not seem to be working. I’ve looked elsewhere on your site (like the “Hot Deals” section) and I’m not finding links to the personal card anywhere. Has the deal been pulled?

  17. The personal version with 70,000 points, the Marriott Premier Visa, is still live.
    https://creditcards.chase.com/a1/marriottpremier/70p1ksh/

Also, at the risk of confusing things, the Chase Ritz Visa, also comes with 70,000 points that you can link to your Marriott Rewards account. The Ritz Visa has a $395 annual fee (not waived), but provides Marriott Gold Status, and this link provides a $200 gift certificate you can spend for Ritz restaurant meals and spa services. Plus, Chase provides Ritz Visa cardholders reimbursement for airline incidental costs. $200 in annual reimbursements is listed here, but as of May 2014 Chase announced the Ritz Visa would provide a $300 annual reimbursement for airline incidental costs. (Presumably, the bump from $200 to $300 a year also applies to the Ritz Visa linked here.) https://www.theritzcarltonrewardscard.com/200?SPID=F4S8

  18. So I applied and was approved for the Marriott Premier Personal card yesterday 50K points and was approved and today I log in to Marriott Rewards and saw the 70K offer. Who would I call to see if they would match the offer? I was approved on the 50K with 1K spend, but would like to get the 70K with $2K spend. In other news, I’m glad to report that after 14 years, I’m no longer on the Chase ‘black list’ this was my first approval in almost 15 years.

  19. Hi – I was approved for Chase IHG card on 5/31/14. Today I found out my plans have changed and I also could use a Marriott card. Do you know if I need to wait like 60 days before applying for another CHASE card? THANKS for all your help!

  20. If I currently have and AMEX SPG personal card can I get the business card and get the introductory offer after meeting the spending requirements?

  21. I currently have a marriott rewards card that is going on 1 yr old.
Can I still apply for the 70k points card?

  23. Is this also a metal card like the personal? And if i was approved for both business and personal, does that mean that i will get 2 anniversary night certidicates?
