The Best Western spring promotion MAY save you up to 20% when you book online and stay before April 6, 2014. But it has to be at 1 of the hotels participating in the sale, and MANY hotels have less than a 20% discount.
If you’re a Best Western Rewards member, you’ll get 1,500 bonus points for your stay. If you’ve got Elite status, you’ll earn 2,000 extra points. It can take up to 6 weeks for the bonus points to post to your account.
Best Western hotels range in price from ~$60 to $300+ per night. There are Best Western hotels in over 100 countries, but not all countries are participating in the promotion. Most of Europe, for example, is excluded. Scroll down to the bottom of the terms and conditions to see the list of participating countries.
How to Get the Discount
If you are not a member, enroll in the Best Western Rewards loyalty program.
Register for the Best Western Rewards Spring Promotion.
Look for the phrase “Promotional Rates From” above the advertised rate. This hotel MIGHT accept the “INTERNET” code to save up to 20%.
Best Western doesn’t publish a list of hotels that aren’t participating.
So you may have to dig to find a participating hotel!
If the hotel only advertises “rates from,” it is NOT participating in the promotion.
Worth It or Not?
I did some test searches to see how the promotional rates compared to other rates for the same hotels.
The Best Western River North Hotel in Chicago costs ~$96 with the “INTERNET” promotion code entered.
The best available rate for this hotel is $109, so the discount is ~12%.
I also checked the AAA rate and found it was only ~$2 more than the internet rate!
Best Western cancellation policies vary from hotel to hotel. In this case, both the best available rate and AAA rate allow free cancellation until 4:00 pm the day of arrival. But with the internet rate, you will be charged if you cancel after 6:00 pm the day BEFORE arrival.
So if you book the internet rate and have to cancel at the very last minute, you may be charged. You might be better off spending the extra ~$2 on the AAA rate (if you’re an AAA member) to get the flexibility to cancel on the day of arrival.
2. San Diego
For a rate of ~$110 with the “INTERNET” promotion code entered, you can stay at the Best Western Yacht Harbor Hotel in San Diego.
The best available rate for this hotel is $129, so the discount in this case is ~15%.
The AAA rate is ~$7 more than the internet rate.
Not all Best Western hotels offer advance purchase rates, but this hotel does.
The cancellation policy for this hotel is different. Both the internet and advance purchase rates are non-refundable, and your credit card will be charged at the time of booking. You can cancel bookings made under the best available and AAA rates until 4:00 pm the day before arrival without a penalty.
In this case, you’ll save 15% if you book using the promotion, but you can’t cancel your reservation and get a refund! So if you’re not completely sure of your travel plans, you’re better off spending the extra money on the best available rate or AAA rate.
Best Western’s “Be A Travel Hero” Promotion
Best Western is also running the “Be A Travel Hero” promotion where rewards members can register to win free nights or a grand prize vacation. I usually don’t enter these contests because I’m unlikely to win!
You *could* save up to 20% off the best available rate at Best Western hotels when you stay before April 6, 2014. However:
- You’ll earn 1,500 to 2,000 points per stay
- You have to register for the promotion to get the bonus points (be sure you enter the promotional rate “INTERNET” )
- You may have to dig to find a participating hotel
- The discount might be less than 20%
- Not all countries are participating
Be sure you check the cancellation policy of the hotel, becuase policies vary from hotel to hotel!
I wouldn’t go out of my way to stay at a Best Western just to participate in this promotion, unless the room was at a great price! But if you’re planning to stay at a Best Western anyway, it could be worthwhile to register for the promotion to save some cash & earn some extra points.
