Stay 3 Nights And Get 38,000 Club Carlson Points

You can get 38,000 Points in Club Carlson’s Stay 3 Nights, Get 1 Free Promotion

Although Club Carlson is calling their promotion “Stay 3 Nights, Get 1 Free,” you don’t get a free night certificate which you can use at any Club Carlson hotel.

Instead, you get 38,000 Club Carlson points which is enough for a free night in a Category 1 to 4 hotel.  38,000 points will NOT get you a free night in a category 5 or 6 Club Carlson hotel.

So the promotion should really be called “Stay 3 Nights, Get 1 Free at 80% of our hotels!”

That said, I usually prefer earning points to free night certificates.  That’s because I can use the points at any time, but usually have to use the free night certificates by a certain date.

How Many Points do you Need to Stay at a Club Carlson Hotel?

Worth It Or Not?

Club Carlson’s top-tier Radisson Blu hotels cost 50,000 points, but some Country Inn and Park Inn hotels cost only cost 9,000 points a night.

There are lots of Country Inn hotels in the US and they are great when you need a room for a night or two.

If you already will be paying for 3 nights in a hotel up to April 13, 2014, you could consider staying in a Club Carlson hotel instead.  Note that the 3 nights don’t have to be consecutive nights.

And you can then use those 38,000 points to stay in other Club Carlson hotels later on.

Or you could stay 1 night at the Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti for 38,000 points.

38,000 Points Gets you a Free Night in Tahiti!

Club Carlson lets you buy up to 40,000 points per year for 7 cents each.  So 38,000 points would cost $266 (38,000 Club Carlson points X 0.7 cents per point).

But I wouldn’t go out of my way for a mattress run, unless you needed just 1 night at a cheap price to get the 38,000 points bonus.

A mattress run is when you book a hotel so you can get elite stay credit or nights to meet a promotional requirement.  Some folks stay the night while others just check-in and leave.

Using Club Carlson Points

If you have the Club Carlson card, you can get more value from this promotion. You get the last night of an award stay free when you redeem points for 2 or more nights.

So if you book a 2 night award stay, you only pay for 1 night!

Terms And Conditions

You can earn 38,000 Club Carlson points after staying 3 eligible nights between January 6, 2014 to April 13, 2014.

You have to pay an eligible rate which means that you have to pay cash and (usually) book directly from the Club Carlson website.  This means that rates booked on other sites such as Pricline, Expedia etc. will not count towards the promotion.  However, if your company books travel for you through a travel agent (say American Express travel), it usually does count towards the promotion.

Using points for awards, Points + Cash stays, or the free night from the Club Carlson card do not count towards eligible nights.

And you have to register for the promotion before checking out of your first eligible stay.

Bottom Line

You can earn 38,000 points from the Stay 3 Nights, Get 1 Free” Club Carlson promotion after staying for 3 nights at a Club Carlson hotel up to April 12, 2014.

If you have the Club Carlson card, you can effectively stretch those 38,000 points further.

  1. I’ve got a little 2 days in Milan and 2 days in Rome trip coming up in mid March. Could I buy 3 nights at Radissons on my CC card and get the 20 points per dollar (as long as I book thru Club Carlsons website) and also be eligible for the 38k bonus points? I have already registered and am wondering if I should just purchase the rooms out instead of depleting my CC points which I was intending to do.

  2. Aren’t holiday inns Ihg properties?

  3. Seanp7195 – you’d have to figure out if paying the additional 3% foreign transaction fee on those rooms is worth it for the bonus points.

  4. Terms aren’t crystal clear to me but I’m thinking I can’t get three rooms for one night and qualify. Correct? Thanks.

  5. I qualified for the bonus with my third night on January 11, and the bonus posted very quickly – along with my other points for that third night. Great job, CC!!

  6. As always, the Devil’s in the details, so I’m curious: The exclusion of award nights and points + cash nights is clear and makes sense, but do you think a pre-paid rate booked on clubcarlson.com would qualify as an “eligible night”? I’m thinking of turning this into a mattress-run-by-proxy, using a stay that a family member will be making out of state anyway to qualify, and pre-payment would also make it easier for the charge to hit my CC Visa and rack up more points. Figure I’d book the room in my name, pay for it with my card, add them to the reservation for check-in “before I arrive” and then get paid back and reap the points. Yep, always angling for points!

    • @joe – They are. Thanks!

@DB – The terms say “Only one person per stay may receive Points and Points will be credited to the individual whose name appears on the reservation. You may earn Points on up to three rooms booked under the same reservation, but credit for multiple rooms must be requested at or before the time of check-in.”

I’ve never booked 3 rooms for 1 night with Club Carlson, so I can’t say for sure how the above rule is interpreted. My guess is that 1 night with 3 rooms in your name wouldn’t count, but I can’t say for sure.

@Scott – It should qualify as long as it is booked on the Club Carlson website.

  7. So inspiring.

  8. I love the carlson hotels the best of all. They are always clean and very well kept

  9. If I book it for someone else and add them to the reservation with a Club Carlson card through Club Carlson website, 3 nights in a row cash only, will they require me to show up for checkin? Or just any guest name I put on can checkin? Will they require to see the credit card that made the booking or just any credit card for extra charges? Thanks!

  10. I’m thinking this card should be the next one I apply for.

I’m reading mixed feedback on this card being either hard or easy to get. I see some people freeze their credit reports before they apply. What I haven’t found is why.

I did just apply for the two SWA Chase cards this week. Prior to that my newest card is an Am Ex Gold from 2.5 years ago. Excellent credit with long history.

There are a couple other cards I’m wanting to open, is there any reason not to include this in a multi app in one day plan?

    • @haleyb – Initially folks were finding it tough to get approved from US Bank, but off late, I haven’t heard many negative reports. That said, I’d apply for the card before applying for cards from other banks.

  11. I am wondering whether I will get 2 times 38.000 bonus points when I stay 6 nights. I can’t find this online yet. Do you know?

  12. would government rates qualify towards the 3-night promo?
