Update:   This offer is no longer available.  Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

The CardMatch tool lets folks see if they have been targeted for better-than-normal offers on certain credit cards.  Many offers from Capital One or First Premier Bank won’t be useful to folks collecting miles and points.

But some folks may get a lucrative offer for 50,000 Membership Rewards points on the Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express!  Or for other American Express cards.

I last saw this offer on December 14, 2013.

50,000 Points Premier Rewards Gold Card From American Express

You get 50,000 points after you spend $1,000 within the first 3 months on the Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express.

The normal offer for the Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express is 25,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $2,000 within the 1st three months.

So the offer from CardMatch is a much better offer!  Because you get double the normal amount of points for half the required spending!

Note:  I saw the offer on December 14, 2013.

If you weren’t able to see the 50,000 points Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express the last time if was offered, you might be able to see it now.  That said, it isn’t likely to be available to a lot of folks, but it doesn’t hurt to see if you’ve been targeted for it.

How To See The 50,000 Point Offer

Step 1 – Go to CardMatch

Click on this link to see your exclusive offers via CardMatch.

Some banks make their more lucrative offers, such as the 50,000 points Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express, available through the CardMatch link.

Step 2 – Enter Your Information

Enter your name, address, and the last 4 digits of your social security number.  Then click “Next.”

Your Social Security Number is used for a “soft inquiry” against your TransUnion credit report.  A “soft inquiry” doesn’t impact your credit score.

So it should not impact your credit score when you enter your social security number to see your targeted offers.

Step 2 – Enter Your Information

Step 3 – See Your Offers

You will see your targeted offers which could include the 50,000 point Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express!

That said, I expect more folks to NOT see the more lucrative 50,000 points Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express offer than those who see it.

American Express usually lets you get the signup bonus again IF you haven’t had the same card within the past 12 months.  But read the terms and conditions closely.

Be sure to take screenshots of the application page if you apply.

How to Use 50,000 Membership Rewards Points

Check out my post on what to do with Membership Rewards points.

1.   Travel Using Pay With Points

You could get $500 worth of travel when you redeem points using the “Pay with Points” feature and get 1 cent per point towards air travel booked through the Membership Rewards portal.

You get less than 1 cent per point if you book hotels and car rentals through the portal, so best to use Pay with Points for air travel.

Get 1 Cent Per Point With Pay with Points

And you earn miles on the flights you book with Pay with Points!

So this is a good use for folks who have little flexibility in their travel plans.

2.   Gift Cards & Amazon

You can use your points for gift cards.  So 50,000 points gets you $500 in gift cards and ~ $350 in Amazon.com credits.  I prefer to use my points for travel, but do the math to see what makes sense for you.

50,000 Points American Express Premier Rewards Gold Available To Some

Gift Card Redemptions at 1 Cent per Point

You can also redeem for Amazon.com purchases, but you only get 0.7 cents per point, which isn’t a great value.  This means that 50,000 points will get you $350 in Amazon purchases.

Not a Great Value to use With Amazon

3.   Transfer To Airlines

You can transfer points to different airlines such as Delta, British Airways, and Singapore Airlines, etc.  Then redeem for flights.

But many Membership Rewards partners charge fuel surcharges on international awards which vary by the partner airline you fly on.

50,000 Points American Express Premier Rewards Gold Available To Some

You can Transfer Membership Rewards Points to Airlines

American Express has frequent transfer bonuses to British Airways, and British Airways Avios are a great use for short distance travel.

If you want to travel on a suite in Singapore Airlines, transferring Membership Rewards points to Singapore Airlines is the best way to get it!

4.   Transfer To Hotels

You can transfer Membership Rewards points to Starwood hotels (SPG points), but the transfer ratio isn’t very good.  You get only 333 Starwood points for every 1,000 Membership Rewards point transferred.

You usually get 1,500 Hilton points for every 1,000 Membership Rewards points transferred.  50,000 points would get you 75,000 Hilton points.

But you’ll get a better value by transferring your Membership Rewards points to Virgin Atlantic at a 1:1 ratio.

You can then transfer Virgin Atlantic Points to Hilton points by calling the Virgin Atlantic service center (800-365-9500 ) at a 1:2 ratio.  So 50,000 Membership Rewards points becomes 100,000 Hilton points

You can also transfer to Choice Hotels & Best Western, but there isn’t much value in that unless you can get a cheap room on points in Europe or other expensive destinations.

Bottom Line

You can get 50,000 points from the Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express when you apply via CardMatch.  I last saw the offer on December 14, 2013.

This offer is only available through CardMatch and gets you double the amount of points (50,000 points)!  That said, most folks will not see the offer, but it doesn’t hurt to see what you’re being offered.

The targeting criteria keeps on changing so you could be targeted for a better offer later on.

  1. I got the amex business gold. Can i get this?

  2. Richard Hornback

No go for me. Now Monday is even sadder 🙁

  3. “But some folks may get a lucrative offer for 50,000 Membership Rewards points on the American Express Premier Rewards Gold card! ”

“…That said, it isn’t likely to be available to a lot of folks, but it doesn’t hurt to see if you’ve been targeted for it.”

“…That said, I expect more folks to NOT see the more lucrative 50,000 points Premier Rewards Gold offer than those who see it.”

    ———————————————————

I did not get the offer – instead was offered other low bonus amounts and even some “secure cards” (are you kidding me!!)

    A couple of questions:

    – you had your standard disclosure listed with this post. Do you specifically get a commission from CardMatch?

    – As a reader…I’d like to know more about why you made it well clear that many would NOT see the offer? Was this based upon experience or other info you had?

As always, thanks! for your blog – this would have been a nice “top-off” offer for me as I’m now looking for new points/miles to gather and look forward to finding some great offers!

    • @Mike – The Premier Rewards Gold card is a personal card, and you can get the bonus on both the business and personal Gold cards.

@Richard Hornback – Don’t let a targeted offer get you down!

@BB – Yes, I get a commission from CardMatch if you are approved for their offers. The richer offers are selectively targeted and I know from reader feedback and experience that not everyone will see them.

  4. if I just got the SPG Amex, would I even qualify for another Amex bonus? (already hit spend)

  5. If I can get this credit card with50,000 points I have a question . Membership Rewards transfer question–I want to travel on Aegean Airlines from Prague to Santorini and 7 days later from Santorini to Athens, openjaw I guess. Which airline should I transfer rewards to and do you call to book or can you boo online?

  6. My husband and I both got the offer and the card. And I was surprised when it was delivered the next day via UPS. We are just starting to accumulate points and are looking forward to learning how to best use them. This was a great article for me. Thanks

  7. Does the points expire after cancellation of card after First Year?

  8. I didn’t get the offer but I did receive a targeted offer in the mail from AMEX for a Business Gold Rewards Card with 50K bonus points after spending $5K in three months. Unfortunately I have to wait until May to apply for another AMEX business card so I will have to pass on this one.

  9. I had the match, applied and was approved instantly. I’m a little nervous I won’t qualify for the signup bonus as I also have a Blue Cash Preferred card. There is a big warning on the application:

“If you are identified as a current American Express® Card Member, you may not be eligible for this welcome bonus offer. This offer is also not available to applicants who have had this product within the last 12 months or any other Consumer ZYNC®, Green or Gold Card or Platinum Card® account within the last 90 days.”

I’ve never had any of the charge cards before but that first sentence give me anxiety. Would you recommend my wife applying too or should she hold out for a 100k platinum offer? Our goal is Bora Bora in 2015 which requires 300k points.

  10. I just got approved. I’ve been getting this exact offer in the mail for the past 6 months or so. I used your link via Card Match so you get credit.

The fine print says “If you are identified as a current American Express Card Member, you may not be eligible for this welcome bonus offer. This offer is also not available to applicants who have had this product within the last 12 months or any other consumer Zync, green or gold card or platinum card account within the last 90 days.” My husband closed his Select advantage Amex 3 months ago today and still has his Visa Citi personal signature platinum open. If he can see this offer, can he apply or would this fine print disqualify him?

Finally, since I opened my Amex today, do I have to wait 18+ months to qualify to open another Visa Citi Advantage card. Mine have been closed since October 2012. Or am I mixing Amex and Visa? I think I am totally confused on the Amex versus Visa products. Thanks for all the advice.

  11. If I already have the Amex Plat am I still eligible for the PRG offers?

  12. I was tageted … for a CC that I pay $100 & get a credit line of $300!

  13. My husband is targeted for the offer but I don’t want him to take it if he would be disqualified because of the fine print. Thanks for advice!!!

  14. “You usually get 1,500 Hilton points for every 1,000 Membership Rewards points transferred. 50,000 points would get you 33,333 Hilton points.”

I was never that good at math, but this doesn’t seem to “add up” for me. Shouldn’t it read 75,000 Hilton points?

    • @BFD – Depending on the price of the ticket, the “Pay with Points” option could be worth it. I’d compare prices with fuel surcharges on Aeroplan, ANA, and Singapore airlines. In some cases, the fuel surcharges may make it not worth redeeming.

@Tricia – That’s wonderful that you both got the offer. Neither Emily nor I got it.

@Dan – They don’t expire after the 1st year. Here’s a post on points expiration.

@Dan – That’s a good offer as well and they sometimes have 75,000 points on the Business Gold card.

@James – I don’t like how that first sentence is worded either. Usually you get the bonus unless you have the same card for 12 months or one of the other listed cards for 3 months. I’d guess that we may see a better offer on the American Express Platinum since the Platinum card no longer provides access to American Airlines clubs. But it is just a guess.

@Tammy Horvath – The American Airlines credit cards (including the American Express versions) are issued by Citi and NOT American Express. So you should be fine if you only have the Citi American Airlines cards! Thanks for using our link!

@Josh – Not if you have had the personal Platinum within the last 3 months.

      @mh – That’s a real killer deal. 🙂

@Robert Hanson – Of course you are right. It is fixed.

  15. The offer link used to be OK without SSN. Now it says, “Social security number cannot be blank”…

  16. Just an update. I called American Express after my instant approval to verify the 50,000 points to get a full explanation of the bonus. Even though I already have a Blue Cash Preferred card, I’m eligible and as soon as I spend $1,000 the 50k points will go into pending status and will officially post after the next statement.

You would not be eligible for the bonus if you have or have had the PRG in the last 12 months or the Zync, Green, or Platinum in the last 90 days. To churn a charge card you need to close it, let it sit for 90 days and then apply for another. E.g.: Close Platinum, let sit 90 days, open PRG. If you close PRG and want to re-open the PRG, you’ll have to wait 12 months.

  17. Is it possilble to transfer into aDelta skymiles account tha belongs to someone else or do the names on the AmEx Gold account have to be exactly the same as the Delta account?

  18. The only Amex I have had in the past year or two was the Amex Business Gold (that I applied for from your links when it was offering 75,000 points), which I still have.

I wonder why I did not get the offer. Maybe because I still have the Amex??

Well, it’s time to close it soon to avoid the annual fee…would this be a situation where after 90days I would benefit to check back? It would be nice if your affiliate would provide more info on the criteria they are searching for. I have an 800+ FICO and should not have been offered cards such as a secure card! 🙁

  19. I got the 75k offer and my wife received the 50k offer in the mail a week later! I wonder what 125k MR points can get me?? 🙂

  20. Since they will charge $175 on the second year, can I just sign up and get the card to get the 50k bonus points offer then cancel the card before they charge be in 2nd year? would I still keep the points even after I cancelled it?

  21. Alex (@NoviceFlyer)

Got targeted offer, and got instant approval 🙂 First Amex Charge card ever. It still looks like a good card to keep long time as well. Would I be eligible to apply for the Plat after 90 days still?

  22. AMEX is not allowing me a Starwood bonus because I have an AMEX product (Blue cash & Costco). I have not had a Starwood card in over two years. I completed the $5k spend but when I inquired about the 20,000 bonus points, I was just told that I did not qualify. I would advise anybody considering any AMEX product with a signup bonus to be careful. I think that AMEX & I will be parting company for a while.

  23. I just wondering what do you say for reason when you called the representative and request to cancel/close the card to avoid paying another annual fee?
I think reason such as “I cannot afford it anymore” will be bad since the rep will record it into the note in the system and if we apply for another new credit card in a few months or years later with same bank (Chase, etc) and they can pull out all the record of the cards you ever have and closed and can see that one of the reason you closed a card before was because “cannot afford it”, then they will reject your application for new card or give you very low credit limit available.

  24. I have actually received this offer in the mail a few times but am new and nervous to the whole credit cards/travel hacking thing. That said, I might have to go for this one.

    • @rr – It is possible to transfer into someone else’s account.

@Katherine – You have to use the points or have another Membership Rewards card open to avoid losing the points. See this post for more details.

@Alex (@NoviceFlyer) – I’d wait for an upgrade offer to the Platinum card instead.

@Dave S – I’ve never heard of that happening before and I hope that this isn’t a new AMEX policy.

@katie – I’d have a travel goal first and then apply for cards to get you to those goals.

  25. Wow – I got the targeted 50,000 offer and was approved. It came FedEx in less than a day with a “gold” hardcover book describing the terms. Hard to believe. My only question – I also have an Amex Gold Delta card – do you know if that will affect this offer? I should have checked first…

  26. Daraius,
Haven’t get any response from you while you answering others above, I understand that you maybe busy and missed my post, let me rewrite it again in hope you can please kindly help me:

I just wondering what do you say for reason when you called the representative and request to cancel/close the card to avoid paying another annual fee?
I think reason such as “I cannot afford it anymore” will be bad since the rep will record it into the note in the system and if we apply for another new credit card in a few months or years later with same bank (Chase, etc) and they can pull out all the record of the cards you ever have and closed and can see that one of the reason you closed a card before was because “cannot afford it”, then they will reject your application for new card or give you very low credit limit available.

Also, I didn’t see the offer after I made my inquiry thru cardmatch….is there any other link that I can use to get this 50k bonus?

    Thanks!

    • @Vicki – Having the Delta card shouldn’t proven you from getting the bonus on the Premier Rewards Gold card as well.

@Jessica – I just say that I prefer using other cards and don’t mention that I can’t afford the fee. There isn’t another way currently to get the 50,000 point bonus on this card.

  27. Cardmatch sucks as it does not have an AP choice in the states for Area Pacific, therefore it cannot find me in the system to match me with my offers. Boo

  28. Last time I applied for the Amex Premier Rewards card, I received 50,000 points after meeting the spending requirement. I then sold my 50,000 Membership Reward points to rewards2cash for $580

    http://rewards2cash.com/AMEX_MR?tracking=4f8fb6a3e7219

The company has positive reviews on slickdeals, facebook, and fatwallet.

  29. Just wanted to say that CardMatch is still working for the 50,000 points American Express Premier Rewards Gold card. My wife and I never got the offer but my Mom did when I looked with her info.

Mom got approved…so I hope you are still getting a referral for it.

    …and Thank-You!!!

    😉

  30. Sorry if this was already covered elsewhere, but wondering what impact a “no spending limit card,” such as this Amex Premier Gold, have on our credit scores? If I spend $1000 this month, and that happens to report to the bureaus, how does Amex report? Quite differently than, say, a card with $10,000 limit, outstanding/utilized credit $1,000. I have heard these no spending limit cards may hurt scores, so wanted to see what everyone’s experiences have been? Thanks so much!

  31. Hey does anyone have the POID for the 50K offer? It should be in the terms and conditions – open them and do a search for POID. I am hoping to call them with the POID and see if I can get them to give me the offer.

  32. I’ve had this card and transferred the 50,000 points to Delta. They charged me a fee of around $30 to do this. I’ve never heard of anyone saying that there is a fee involved with a transfer……is this standard?

  35. Hi,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I just got approved for the 50000 miles offer just by browsing the American Express website. I got a 35000 miles offer for Delta Gold vs 30000 points and got the 50000 points for the PRG !! I wasn’t planning on playing but I did as soon as I saw the offer !

  36. I didnt get it at cadmatch but did just searching cards at amex. For some reason it said it didnt find offers but on their main cc screen it said this offer is only for you, dont leave the page. My mom got the offer from cardmatch but, its crazy because, her credit is not that great, I wouldnt even think mid 600’s go figure!

  38. Can AmEx points be transferred to Chase Sapphire?

I already booked a trip to Hawaii (LAX to OGG) by transferring Chase points to Korean Air and then booking a Delta flight through Korean Air and only had to use 25K points per person. I’d like to book an additional seat but am short on Chase points but have plenty of AmEx points. Any suggestions?
