IHG Rewards Flash Sale

Pay 50% to 75% Fewer Points for Hotel Rooms!

IHG Rewards hotels include Candlewood SuitesCrowne Plaza,  Holiday InnHoliday Inn Express,Hotel IndigoIntercontinental Hotels & Resorts, and Staybridge Suites brand hotels.

Here’s a list of all the hotels which will have reduced awards.  The discount is only valid for stays between October 23, 2013 and November 22, 2013.

And you have only 24 hours to book the hotels at the lower price.

I’d book the hotels as soon as possible, because they could get sold out and you can usually cancel for free (but double check the cancelation policy before booking).

So check if your travels takes you to these cities!

Interesting Hotels

Here’s what looks interesting to me, but I don’t like that you have to stay by November 22, 2013.  I just can’t drop everything and go somewhere (as much as I’d like to!)

But it doesn’t matter if they are interesting to me.  What matters is that YOU find them interesting and can save money or points by booking them!

Earning IHG Rewards Points

You can get IHG Rewards points by:

Usually, transferring points from Chase Ultimate Rewards to IHG Rewards is not the best value, but it certainly could make sense for hotels on the PointsBreak list.  If you’re not averse to using the cash and points trick, you can use the cash and points trick to buy IHG Rewards points and then get a statement reimbursement of 1 cent per Ultimate Rewards points.  This is a better value than redeeming Ultimate Rewards points directly for IHG Rewards points.

Bottom Line

This is a great deal if your travels takes you to any of the cities on the 24 Hour Flash Sale list.

It doesn’t hurt to make a booking using points, because you can usually cancel them without a penalty (but read the cancellation policy before booking).

  1. What about canceling the card when the annual fee is due..inorder to re churn it later?

  2. One of the cards that is worth keeping. Thanks for the lead on NYC, always hard to score something there.

  3. have you been successful in calling Chase up to waive the annual fee for this card (IHG) ?

  4. My wife and I want to go from Boston to Paris R/T in April 2014 and I am not exactly sure how we can mix and match these bonus miles. Maybe you can help.

Together we have 30,113 bonus miles on AAdvantage Citi Visa. I have British Airways Avios of 13,927 and my wife has 51,485 bonus miles on British Airways.

What do you think is the best way to utilize these bonus miles and on what airline?

    • @s – I’ve never tried because $49 for a ~$250 hotel seems worth it to me.

@StephenM – It is 30K each way in coach using American Air miles to Europe, so you don’t have enough American Airlines miles. You will pay high fuel surcharges using your British Airways miles. But you can redeem 25,000 British Airways points for flights on Aer Lingus to Dublin with no fuel surcharges for a roundtrip coach flight. You have to call British Airways to book these flights.
