About a week ago, I shared that you may be able to get 5,000 Ultimate Rewards via the Chase referral program if you already have the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Freedom card.

You can send referrals via Twitter, Facebook or email.  I sent some test emails on September 14, but none of them were received before my post went live.

Readers commented that it could take 3 to 5 days for the email to be sent.  Sure enough, the test email which I sent was received on September 19, so it took 5 days to send!  So let the person whom you refer know that it could take a few days to get the email.

Bottom Line

You can now get 5,000 extra Ultimate Rewards points for referring your friends and family for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Freedom card.  Emily and I are always grateful when you use our links, but if you already have a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Freedom, you’re better off referring others with your own referral link!

  1. Tried to refer friends for the Freedom card but couldn’t. Call to Chase they told me it is targeted. Anyone else encountered the same problem?

  2. They give you the option to refer friends on Facebook and Twitter as well. I just clicked the Twitter link, and then copied and sent the URL directly to the friends who wanted a referral.

  3. My test to myself only gave us a 10,000 point signup after a 3,000/3 mo spend! My husband has Sapphire and I don’t.. No thanks…will use another referral link!

  4. I previously had a Chase Sapphire card (received sign-up bonus) and closed it after 1 year. Can I request a new card and get the bonus again? And is there a time period I need to wait before requesting the card again?

  5. I told my brother about the sapphire card two weeks ago and he signed up can I still get the referral points?

    • @Kristen – Which card was the 10K points for? That is the regular offer for the Sapphire, but if you have a Sapphire Preferred, you should be able to refer folks to the 40K offer.

@zally – It doesn’t hurt to call and ask.

  6. can you only refer to CSP if you have it yourself. I have an Ink card, can I get the referal bonus if i refer my wife to the CSP?

  7. Is it me or the freedom card doesn’t work? My sapphire card works but not the freedom. I have a friend who sister wants to get the freedom and it doesn’t seem to work for me.

  8. @David – It looks like this offer is targeted and is by-invitation-only. Mr. MMS can probably weigh on that.
As a data point, none of my cards (freedom or sapphire preferred) work for this offer. 🙁
