Priority Club Visa Free Night

The Chase Priority Club Visa is one of my favorite credit cards to keep for a long time.

Priority Club Visa Free Night

We Used Our Free Nights Here!

That’s because the $49 annual fee gets you 1 free night, every year after the 1st year, which can be redeemed at ANY Priority Club hotel – including the more expensive InterContinental hotels.  You also get a 60,000 to 80,000 sign-up bonus and no foreign transaction fees for purchases not in US dollars, though there are better cards with no foreign transaction fees.

Emily and I redeemed our free nights at the InterContinental Thalasso in Bora Bora last year!

You have to book AND complete your stay within 1 year of earning the free night certificate.

Priority Club hotels include Candlewood SuitesCrowne Plaza,  Holiday InnHoliday Inn Express,Hotel IndigoIntercontinental Hotels & Resorts, and Staybridge Suites brand hotels.

But you can use the free night at any Priority Club hotel.  Priority Club has lots of hotels in the US, so you can often find a Priority Club hotel in a city which regularly has high prices (like New York City), or because of a special event like a conference or concert etc.

Can I Use The Free Night For Someone Else?

Readers often ask if you can use the free night for someone else.  In my experience, you can usually book a room for yourself with points (or free night certificates) and add a note in the reservation that someone else will check in first.

You Can Let The Hotel Know That Someone Else Will Check in Before You

However, this may not always work, and as always, do what you’re comfortable with.  But it usually does work within the US.

It could also help to call the hotel on the day of arrival and explain that someone else will be checking in first.

Bottom Line

The Priority Club card was already a great card because of the free night each year.  But it just got better because you can now book the free night online without calling in!

  1. About bloody time. Still wish I could use them at the Palazzo/Venetian. But you cannot.

  2. Thanks for the info. Very useful.

  3. Speaking of booking the night for someone else, have you ever tried linking multiple reservations in different names into one reservation? For example, use your free night, your spouses’s free night, your mother’s free night, your father’s free night for four nights in a row, call up the hotel and have them link all four together so you don’t have to switch rooms every night etc.

That’s a question for not just Priority Club, but PC stands out because of the yearly free night.

  4. Wedding Spend,

I hooked two nights together at IC Times Square for later this year using my free night and my husband’s. At that time you still had to call in to make the booking, so I did it in the same phone call. No issue on the booking end.

  5. I have had the priority club visa for about 3 months now. Do you get the free night immediately, or after you pay your annual fee?

  6. I wish you answered this. Can I just book any PC hotel to book my free night now and later change the hotel and destination?

I don’t know where I am going for my vacation in the end of the year and which PC hotel i am staying.

  7. once you book the hotel hotel using your free night, you are stuck with that hotel? Can’t change to a different pc hotel and a different place? I don’t know where I am going later this year

    • @ArizonaGuy – You can use them at the Palazzo/Venetian!

      @Lively – Thanks for reading.

@WeddingSpend – You can always make reservations in different folks names and call/email the hotel with the confirmation number and have them club the rooms together. When we went to Bora Bora we used Emily’s free night, my free night and points for the rooms.

@LV2TRVL – You get the free night starting from your 1st anniversary i.e around when your annual fee is due.

@jim – You can cancel the free night and book elsewhere (subject to rooms being available).

  8. Sometimes I just want to high five you through the internet.

  9. Haha, Nate, me too!

  10. hmmmm, lots of arrows and highlights….I’m sure this post wasn’t designed poke a certain segment of your readership. 🙂

  11. This is great. Had the Chase Priority Card & cancelled (just before Annual Fee) @ week 53 AFTER getting the Free Night letter from Chase. I thought the Free Night would be cancelled – but just checked – I have 1 Free Night!! Was going to call, but now just login.

  12. Are there any hotel credit cards out there that is affiliated with Marina Bay Sands in Singapore where we can get free nights or use hotel points? Thanks!

  13. Just wanted to confirm that the 80K link is still valid as of 5/18/13. Too bad I have to wait a full year for the free night cert! I want to use it at Bora bora.. 🙂

  14. Hi Daraius,

Out of curiosity, do you use WordPress for this site/blog and also CSS? How easy was it for you to learn each one. Am just starting out with WordPress and am already confused about blogging versus web designing with it!

  15. My Priority Club Visa anniversary date is in August, but I want to use my free night for the InterContinental Time Square in October. I went ahead and made a reservation with points. Can I call and have it switched to the free night certificate when it comes? Will it be ready in time?

    • @Nate @Katie – Right back at ya!

@jay – Not that I know. You could use the pay with points feature of some cards, but that could be a poor value. Or get a card like the Barclays Arrival of NFL and use the cash back for the hotel.

@WishyAnand – I bought WordPress for Dummies and got started. The blog is a wordpress blog.

@Sam – No guarantees that a rep will make the switch, but some folks have been successful doing that.

  16. Do you recommend staying in IHG properties over Marriott? I am platinum with them, but have heard other people mention IHG is good as well.

  17. Does the 80,000 points the same points as the Chase Ultimate Rewards points? I’m a bit confused that the 80,000 points are different and can only be redeemed as Priority Club Rewards. 80,000 bonus points seems to be too good for Ultimate Rewards consider it’s even better than the Ink Plus bonus. Thanks in advance for clarification!

  18. What is the location / resort shown in the Photo? Just curious?

  19. do you know if the certificate applies to hotels like the Venetian or Palazzo in Las Vegas?

  20. Dang what a good little card. I’ve never seen it get any love. $49 AF for a free IHG stay. No brainer. Will be picking up this card on my next AOR.

  21. Let me get this straight…Just pay the $49 annual fee and you get a free night every year? wow lol

  22. My question is the opposite of Sam’s above. My wife has the free night in her account. Her anniversary date is in October but we’d like to use it for a December reservation. Do you think we can go ahead and book it prior to the anniversary date and not lose it? I would assume so but just a chance we could lose it if we have to cancel it.

    • @Rachel – It depends on what is cheaper and what is more convenient to you.

@Lenny – Unfortunately, you can’t transfer Priority Club points to Ultimate Rewards points.

@Vijay – It is the InterContinental Thalasso in Bora Bora.

@DaninSTL – You could book a room on points and call and have them switch the reservation to the free night, but no guarantees that you will be able to do it.

      @Sherm – You sure can!

  23. Is it possible to stack two year’s worth of certificates for one two-night stay? (In other words, do the expiration dates overlap?) If so, that would mean that my hsuband and I could book a four-night stay every two years…?

  24. Cathy Edwards

Can you churn the priority club visa? I’ve got one and would love another!

  25. As of 6/5, 80k bonus still working!

Quick question, do these points expire?

  26. Couldn’t help but notice that my cautionary tale about chase not honoring this offer was not posted. Anyway, this follow-up. I paid the annual fees for two years and was never provided with this free night. I called repeatedly to alert chase visa to the problem and was given the runaround for several weeks — the offer was neither made good on, nor were the annual fees refunded. I finally cut my losses last night and canceled the card. But be warned — do NOT assume chase visa will honor this advertised benefit. In my instance they did not, despite repeated phone calls.

  27. How can I use my husbands reward nights for a trip to Orlando. He will not be going on this trip. Can I have him book my room using his points?
