The Deal Mommy! (thanks!) tweeted me about a 75,000 Point American Express Business Gold charge card after spending $10,000 within 4 months.

This is better than my affiliate link which offers 50,000 Membership Rewards points, but has a lower $5,000 within 3 months minimum spending requirement.

The terms say that you have to apply by October 24, 2012 (today) to get the 75,000 point sign up bonus and use Bonus ID A3K4 (which I’m assuming is already coded in the application link).

The terms also say that the “Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have had this product or any other Business Gold, Green or Platinum Card® account within the last 12 months.”

This isn’t my link, and I don’t earn a referral for this link, so please take screen shots before applying for the card. The $175 annual fee is waived for the 1st year and you earn:

  • 3X points on airfare
  • 2X points on advertising, gas, and shipping
  • 1X points on other purchases

American Express seems to be running limited time mega sign-up bonus offers, but with large minimum spending requirements:

There was a 1-day version which offered 50,000 points for the business Gold card after spending $5,000 within 4 months on April 26, 2012.

Another 1-day offer for 50,000 points for the American Express Business Platinum card after spending $10,000 within 3 months on April 6, 2012.

And this same offer was available on February 29, 2012, June 26 & August 8 where you could get 75,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $10,000 within 4 months.

Bottom Line:  This offer has 25,000 more points than my affiliate link, but requires $5,000 more in minimum spending.

  1. This is one of the MAIN AMEX CARD that is the source of all the FR and recent mass closures by AMEX.

unless you have real biz and can prove biz tax income, stay away!

bloggers, please advice against applying for this and other biz cards unless you have biz docs

  2. If there was only a product that came out recently to help you get the 10k spend? LOL

  3. Since I just got approved for the Amex Business and my credit just got checked, should I just go and apply for a second one, if so, which one? any recommendations? I already have the personal SPG, Hilton, Delta and JetBlue ?…thanks!

  4. where are you focusing? Hard to answer w/o more details.

  5. Even if you select that you are a sole proprietorship it will not let you ocntinue without a Fedral tax ID #????

  6. Just applied this morning, no real biz, did’nt enter FID, application said approved, also got email on approval.

    • @MileageUpdate – I wonder if they deliberately timed it like that! 🙂

@Hugo – Only you can decide and it depends on how you want to use your miles and points, but you likely will get a second credit inquiry if you apply for an AMEX personal credit card.

@runnergirl – If you are a sole proprietor, your SSN is your Tax ID.

  7. When I click Yes on the first question (“Are you already a Cardmember?”) it says their systems aren’t responding. I hope they get it fixed soon.

  8. Applied and got denied 🙁 One of my authorized persons on my account submitted a payment that was returned within the past 30 days. Called Amex to see if they would reconsider and no luck.

  9. Thanks for the response but it doesn’t take the ss# – thanks for trying!

  10. Orly: Wow!

  11. Use ssn for fed# got approve for 50000u canceled apply to get 75000. Get expedite. It willI come in 2- 3 days

  12. If I pay my property tax at 2.5% for the 10000/75000pt , is this worth it? Please advise thanks

  13. Pulled the trigger on this card since the points transfer to Hilton, which I need for my upcoming honeymoon to Bora Bora. I’ll hopefully combine this with the Hilton Reserve card a little later to take care of a total of 4 nights. I plan to cover additional nights at the Intercontinental with priority club cards when I have spend available early next year.

Thank you Daraius for all of the great information! All of your Tahiti posts have been a great help in planning the perfect honeymoon for my bride. She thinks I’m a genius being able to have this honeymoon for so little money.

    • @leslie – I’d pay property tax for a 2.5% fee just to get the sign-up bonus, but not on an ongoing basis to earn points.

@tjp – It is usually a better value to transfer to Virgn Atlantic and then to Hilton since transfers from Virgin Atlantic to Hilton are at a 1:2 ratio. Also consider using these points for flights on Air France and Air Tahiti Nui via Delta or via Air France. I wouldn’t transfer them unless you absolutely needed to transfer them to use since the transfers are instant. You get 80K points with the Priority club card and can buy 20K points with the cash and points trick for $140 and you’ll get 2 nights at the IC Thalasso.

  14. Got it! Thanks.

  15. Another great tip about transferring to Virgin and then to Hilton. You just earned me another 33%! I did consider Delta miles for the flight like you did but my fiancé and I already earned 250,000 miles from the AA cards so I am going the Air Tahiti Nui path with AA. I’m now planning all sign on bonuses to take care of the hotels. I’ve been waiting for the targeted PC Card in email but no luck yet. I will eventually just try your link when it’s time for me to get this card and then use the points and money trick as you suggest. Thanks again!

  16. Which would be a better card to sign-up for bonus? AMEX business gold card with 75,000 points bonus or CHASE Ink Bold with 50,000 points bonus?
I’ve been thinking of getting either one. The CHASE currently has lower spending limit to reach the bonus ($5k vs. $10k on the Amex) and I already have 73,000 UR points. I leaning toward the Chase Ink card but wanted your input in case I haven’t thought of something. Thanks!

    • @Sandy – The AMEX 75K offer was for 1 day only, but should be back at some point int eh next 2 or 3 months. I prefer the Chase Ink card, but the spending requirement is $10K (not $5K). The AMEX Business Gold has a 50K version which has a $5K spending requirement. The better card depends on what your goals are. If you get the Ink, you can transfer to United and will have 100K for a business class ticket to Europe or South America.

  17. Thanks for your help processing the AMEX Hyatt credit card! Thanks to you we are half way piling points on our trip to PARIS!!!!

  18. fear this card, fear AMEX
To get dumped on by AMEX with a FR when you are in the middle of your honeymoon. It happened to me.
    Stay away from AMEX

  19. I have 25K in my account and my wife is going to get another 85K if we meet the spending requirements. What is the best use that you can think of? We are planning on to Korea via Singapore Air or Asiana Airlines in May. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  20. Sorry forgot to mention that they are Amex membership points.

    • @Kevin Thompson – You could transfer to Singapore Air for better availability on their flights or to Aeroplan for Star Alliance redemptions. I wouldn’t transfer unless you knew there was availability before transferring.

  21. Amex trying to deny they ever heard of this promotion and refusing to give any bonus points to me. Said only “targeted” accounts get these promotions. Try to tell them it was a public link and it seems to go in one ear and out the other. Now have escalated to their “accounting” department and will get a reply in 7-10 business days. Screen shots and offer code are irrelevant to them…

Time for a class action suit. I can’t be the only one with the bait and switch tactics. The immediate default explanation by CSR was “unless you got the offer in the mail/email, you aren’t eligible”.
