There’s much more to life than miles and points, and no matter how bad we think we have it, many others have it much worse. We’ll never experience centuries of oppression, hatred, and disdain just for being born into a family of “untouchables.”
A Million Mile Secrets reader and FlyerTalk member works for a US-based charity, Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project.
Shanti Bhavan is participating in the Chase Community Giving Grant. They are currently in the top 196 out of 500 entries, but if they manage to enter the top 99, they will get a $20,000 grant.
Would you please consider voting for Shanti Bhavan in the Chase Community Giving Grant before September 19, 2012. Every vote counts!
I wanted to offer a prize to folks for voting, but that is not permitted under the rules of the Chase grant. But I’d sincerely appreciate your vote.
About Shanti Bhavan and Untouchables
Shanti Bhavan provides 17 years of schooling, housing, and food to children from the Dalit or “Untouchable” caste in India. Many of the children are orphans or come from single-mother households earning less than $1 a day.
“Untouchables” are considered the lowest caste in India, and are routinely mocked and scorned. They are expected to perform the most menial jobs in unsanitary conditions for minimum pay which means that there is little chance for the children to break free from the cycle of poverty and discrimination.
Shanti Bhavan’s commitment to the children is extraordinary. And after 17 years of schooling, housing, and food, the children are able to get good jobs to break out of the horrible conditions they were once trapped in.
You can support this wonderful cause by voting for Shanti Bhavan in the Chase Community Giving program. We thank you very much for taking 1 minute to vote!
