View From the Wing writes that Milepoint Premium is available again.

In my opinion, the $59 fee pays for itself with just:

  • 2,000 free United miles
  • Free Hyatt Platinum Status up to February 2014 (or 2,000 Hyatt points if you’re already an elite member)
  • Free GoGo 24 hour wifi internet pass
  • Discounts to paid award searching tools

You also get discounts to ExpertFlyer (great for setting automatic alerts for award seat availability), a 20% discount to the award booking service, BookYourAward, and many other discounts.

If you’re thinking of applying for the Hyatt credit card, remember that Hyatt Platinum members who apply for the card get 2 suite upgrades certificates for paid stays. This is in addition to the 2 free nights in a regular room.

So it could make sense to sign-up for Milepoint Premium and to get Hyatt Platinum status.

That way, you will get 2 suite upgrade certificates to use with paid stays, if you apply for the Hyatt credit card before February 2014 when your free Hyatt platinum status expires.

PS:  I’m on vacation so I won’t be able to get to the comments and email soon.

  1. 2 Suite upgrades for Paid Stays…are you using Stays in the official sense? Like if I pay to stay at a Hyatt for a week, I’ll only need to use one suite upgrade certificate because its just one stay?

  2. I thought if you were Platinum at Hyatt the two free rooms were in a suite.

  3. Ken I’m pretty sure that’s only for Diamonds.

  4. @Adam – Yup, I was thinking Platinum was the top status.

  5. Thanks D, I was able to get in on the deal this time!

  6. what’s advantage of milepoint? flyertalk has a lot more postings. milepoint forum pretty empty in comparison.

  7. Just signed up.Thanks Darius.

  8. it’s actually 4 upgrades for diamond member and you can sign up the trial by email them for 12 nights/60days, pretty tough though.

  9. So for us Hyatt newbies, it seems like there are two options. 1) sign up for Milepoint, get platinum status, then get the Chase Hyatt card and get two upgrades to paid stays. OR 2) get the Chase Hyatt card, get automatic status, then sign up for Milepoint and get 2,000 Hyatt points.

Which leaves us with the question: which is better, 2,000 Hyatt points or two suite upgrades for paid stays?

  10. Better option is this:
Get the diamond status challange. Then apply for the Chase Hyatt card. This way you get FREE suites and 4 paid uPgrades AND free bfast and internet. then hope to get the milepoint promo.

I wouldnt signup for chase hyatt as platinum.

  11. I thought for the Diamond challenge you have to have existing top tier status at another property, whereas anyone can signup for the Platinum challenge.

  12. So it says we can redeem the benefits at any time in the next year. If I wait until Jan 1st 2013 to redeem Hyatt Platinum does that mean it will be good until Feb 2015?

  13. @ Adam K “2 Suite upgrades for Paid Stays…are you using Stays in the official sense? Like if I pay to stay at a Hyatt for a week, I’ll only need to use one suite upgrade certificate because its just one stay?”

I believe one upgrade award is valid for one stay of up to 7 nights

  15. Hey, anyone know how fast the 2000 united miles will post? I am about to book an award and I might need to purchase some miles. This seems like a good offer.

  16. Does anybody know if Hyatt tier status provides you any benefits if you end up staying at a Hyatt when booking through an opaque site such as Hotwire or Priceline’s NYOP?

  17. Thank you so much for posting this! I’ve been waiting for them to do this. Hyatt Platinum is useful for me.
