Update: As of October 14, 2011, the referral bonus is only $1, so it is no longer the deal that it was!
Everyone has been writing about TripAlertz and how you can get a $10 referral bonus every time your friend and family sign-up using your referral link.
For example, if 20 people sign up using your link you get $200 in credit on TripAlertz.
I wasn’t going to write about this since everyone else had (I did tweet about it, though, so follow me to get updates on all the deals!), but Million Mile Secrets reader Sean emailed me about it and asked if he could use my referral link.
Since I wouldn’t have written this post if Sean hadn’t emailed me, I thought it only fair to use Sean’s referral link in the post.
The great news is that your friends and family only have to sign-up using your link and do NOT have to purchase anything making this a great deal!
Read that again – your friends only have to sign up for email for you to get the $10 credit!
TripAlertz is like Groupon where, for a limited time, you can get deeply discounted travel deals. Of course, not all the offers are good deals, but you may be able to get those travel packages for free or much less than the posted price because of the $10 referral credit.
Here’s how to sign-up:
Step 1
Sign in to TripAlertz using Sean’s referral link.
The website is a bit buggy, so it may look like nothing is happening after you enter in your email adress and password, but it most likely has registered you.
Just try logging in with the same username and password you used to sign-up!
Step 2
Click on the “Invite Friends, Travel Free” in the orange box on the top right and enter the information to generate your own referral link.
Step 3
Send your referral link to your friends, family and collegues, and ask them to sign up.
Post your referral link on Facebook or on Twitter as well!
Everyone should be able to get at least 5 people to sign-up so that’s $50 in travel credits on TripAlertz!
However, the credit is valid for only 2 years and has to be used on the travel packages. You can’t use the credit for regular hotels or air fare.
Bottom Line:
For about 2 minutes work, you could get quite a lot of $10 referral credits and have Big Travel with Small Money.
Let’s send Sean to space by signing up for TripAlertz using his link!
Disclosure: I don’t get paid by TripAlertz or Sean for the links in this post.

I have earned and redeemed millions of airline miles and hotel points to travel the world for free.   Now I'm blogging to help more people do the same!

How many people will resist the urge to use each of their email addresses?!
Have fun out in orbit Sean!
@Ed - I hope they resist the urge, because their accounts may get shut down for doing that! They’ve run this promotion before and are pretty good at detecting fake accounts.
What a respectable thing to do. I noticed how you hadn’t written about TripAlertz and self promoted like several other bloggers have done, and now you have used your blog to help one of your readers. Phenomenal.
Thank you Daraius! I simply emailed Daraius asking for his link because he’s been so helpful to me getting into miles/points and showing me the ropes with his wonderful blog that I wanted to pay him back somehow.
I was blown away when he offered to use my link as the referral link. Thank you to everyone that signs up and thank you again to Daraius for such a kind gesture.
-Sean
@Mike - I don’t think there is anything wrong with other bloggers posting their links and asking for referrals, as long as they are completely upfront about what is happening. And all the posts which I read did disclose that the blogger would earn $10 as well.
I really wasn’t going to write about this, but since Sean persuaded me to do it, he deserves the credit. I also don’t have the time to use this over the next 2 years (I know, I know!).
@MMS – I wasn’t exactly saying there was anything wrong w/it, but rather that it was an upstanding move on your part.
@Mike – Perhaps “wrong” wasn’t the right choice of words on my part!
holy crap dude, you are so cool! i hope this shuts all the people up who kept whining about your supposed deal-killings
thanks for sharing the awesome
My two cents. The way to do this is post a single referral link and have all your readers sign up. That might generate 50-100 *legitemate* referrals, then give away the $500-1000 credit to someone. I’m pretty disappointed to see some bloggers out there all but tell their readers to generate 50+ bogus referrals to generate a free trip. All that does is kill this for those who play by the rules and actually generate legit referrals.
I love it, Sean, you have my $10 now. I have also resisted from doing this, but would love to be a part of getting you to space. I want to see pictures though!
I just signed up, and it looks like they’re only giving away $1 per friend who signs up now.
Well, the email I received says $10 per referral, but the website says $1. I’ll get a referral and let you know how it turns out.
Deal is dead. $1.00 bonus per referral now. HikerT is right, all the blogs killed this deal for everyone.
@HikerT – That’s another way to do it!
@Mommy Points – Ha! Pictures would be nice!
@Matt & Ray – I’ve updated the post to mention that the referral is now only $1. Thanks for the update!
The referral is back to $5 again! YAY!
