100,000 Bonus Points Chase Sapphire Preferred – Targeted Offer! [Expired]

I wrote earlier about Emily’s new Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card with a sign-up bonus of 50,000 bonus points which could be used towards travel or transferred to select airlines or hotels.

Given the trend towards increasing sign-up bonuses, I wrote:

You should also know that the sign-up bonus on this card was only 25,000 points a few months ago.  Given the trend toward mega-bonuses, there may be a chance that the bonus on the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is increased.

Well, there is a report of a targeted offer with 100,000 bonus points as  the sign-up offer!

Specifically:

“Earn 100,000 bonus points when you spend $500 within the first 3 months.”

There is only 1 report so far about the 100,000 point offer, but I wanted to let you know about it right away so that you can decide if you wanted to apply for the Chase Sapphire Preferred now or wait for more details to emerge.

Here’s what I am going to do:

Wait

Wait 3 to 4  weeks before I submit my application for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card to see if I get targeted for the offer or if others get targeted for the offer.

Ask Chase to match the 100,000 bonus for Emily

If more folks get the targeted offer, I’m going to write – using the secure email option online – as well as call Chase to ask them to match the 100,000 point bonus for Emily.

Update: The Fat Wallet thread says that the 100,000 bonus point offer code is S6V.

I sent a secure message indicating that Emily was disappointed at not getting the 100,000 bonus point offer, and explained how she’s had a banking relationship with Chase for many years, and how we would like it to continue for many more years (hint, hint!).

I then called Chase and the rep said that she had “escalated” the matter to corporate and that Emily would get a letter in the mail with the decision within 10 days.  Let’s see what happens!

Update 2: Emily got the additional 50,000 bonus points!

Update 3: This deal is dead since Chase is no longer granting an additional 50,000 points.

Have you received the targeted 100,000 bonus point Chase Sapphire Preferred offer?  Tell us about it in the comments!

  1. Daraius,
Just discovered your site recently – and am loving it!!

No, I have not been targeted for the 100K offer, and I have not done the Chase 50K offer either. Been thinking about it, so will hold out for a bit and see if it does get to be better. Thanks for the heads up!

  2. Hey Darius,
I was very tempted to go for the Chase Sapphire 50k offer but thinking of holding out till more details regarding the 100k offer emerge. Thanks for keeping us posted!

  3. @Lance - I like your website as well – it has great content and I love the clean look! It doesn’t hurt waiting for a week or so in the hopes of something better coming along.

@Farhan – I’m waiting to learn more as well, since I still have to apply for the card!

  4. 100,000 Hyatt points for $500 in spend would be AMAZING!

If this turns out to be true, both me and the gf are doing this as soon as it is confirmed

  5. Oh bummer! Literally signed up for the 50k bonus yesterday. Please let us know how calling in goes, and if successful, what was said!

  6. I called Chase earlier and the rep did not know about the 100,000 mile offer. He had me on hold for a few minutes, confirmed the offer existed but said it was targeted and he could not help me out. I mentioned how other banks were better with helping out their customers! I asked to talk to a supervisor and the rep said he was a senior account specialist and there was nothing they could do.

I am thinking of calling again or sending a message through the website to Chase.

  7. I’ve had my chase card less than a month, have met the spend and now thinking of calling to see if they will give me the additional miles. Interested to hear what everyone has to say.

  8. Called Chase and also spoke to a CSR and then supervisor. First told they don’t discuss offers with customers who were not targeted, then they admitted it existed but said it was targeted to only a few individuals and that I wasn’t eligible.

  9. Thanks a lot for posting your updates! It helps to know what Chase is telling everyone so that we can compare answers.

I sent a secure message indicating that Emily was disappointed at not getting the 100,000 bonus point offer, and explained how she’s had a banking relationship with Chase for many years, and how we would like it to continue for many more years (hint, hint!). There was an error when I sent the message the first time, so I had to re-type my note and send it again.

I then called Chase and the rep took the offer code (S6V) and said that she had “escalated” the matter to corporate and that Emily would get a letter in the mail with the decision within 10 days.

Good luck to everyone. To those that did apply for the card with a 50,000 bonus – don’t feel bad because you applied with the best possible information that you had!

  10. Too bad I applied for the Chase Hyatt just last week, and was approved. That makes four Chase cards for me (BA, Continental, PC, and Hyatt). I better wait a while before applying for any more. Thanks for the great site.

  11. Colorado Newbie

    HI,

Love your website and good info.
For someone new to this game.. can I presume ‘targeted’ means you received an invitation by mail? If so, how best to apply that code?
    Thanks.
    Colorado Newbie

  12. Chase gave Emily an additional 50,000 bonus points, for a total of 100,000 bonus points. See my latest post for more details! Good luck!

@Colorado Newbie – I’m glad you like the blog! You’re right, targeted means that you get an offer in the mail! The best way to ask them to honor the deal is to write to them using the secure service or calling and asking if they will honor offer code S6V!

  13. Hi Daraius ! I found you via FT. I’m new to this whole thing. I would appreciate your help.

I applied and was instantly approved fro the Chase Freedom $150 on May 22, 2011 (less than a month ago). I was only targeted for $100 w/ intro 0%APR. I was tired of waiting to be targeted for the $150 offer (2 months) so I just clicked on a sponsored link which yielded $150 17% APR NO intro APR. Now 3 weeks later I FINALLY received the TARGETED offer $150 w/ 0%APR. Funny eh?

I noticed at the top of the page that you mentioned you would wait another 3-4 weeks before submitting your app. Do you still intend on waiting? Dont know if Chase will keep the generosity flowing.

I have excellent credit. I applied for a mortgage loan Jan 2010 because I didnt want to miss out in this “buyers market” but decided that it was premature. I only own ONE credit card for 7 years BofA Platinum Plus ($1500). And as of last month I now have the Chase Freedom ($3000). I have a checking (10 years) and savings account (2 months) with Chase.

I read your post regarding the “6 month Rule” and Emily’s rejection letter due to many open lines with Chase. Do you think I have a good chance of being approved for the Sapphire card. It will be exactly 30 days on Wed June 22 since I was last approved for the Freedom card.

If so, do you think I should just apply online for the 50k w/ $3k spend or CALL and ask for the 100K w/$500 spend. Seems like people are having more luck if they’re already a Sapphire card holder and send a response via secure messaging. sorry for the long post =)

  14. Hi Daraius,

I recently applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and was declined for applying to too many cards recently. I wonder If I close 2-3 cards (I have 6 right now), do you think it will help me?

    Vishal

  15. @Steve – I’m still going to wait to submit MY application for the Chase Sapphire Card, because I will likely not be approved instantly and don’t think I will be able to get the additional 50,000 bonus points by the time I’m approved. So I’m going to wait.

You’re right that folks seem to be getting the additional 50,000 bonus points only if there are existing card holders.

@Vishal - Closing your non-Chase cards may not help you get a card with Chase (if I’m understanding you correctly). Call Chase and ask them to reduce the credit line on your existing Chase accounts or to cancel a card. I wrote about our experience here.

  16. I received a message via secure system that my additional 50,000 point will post within a day or two! Thank you for the head’s up!

  17. @Kim - You’re welcome! I’m glad it worked out.

  18. My application is currently pending approval. This there anyway I can expedite this? I tried calling in but the agent said she could not help!

    Thanks!

  19. @Farhan - I would just call again and see if another agent can help (888-245-0625).

  20. Just wanted to stop back by and say “Thank You” for a post on the 100K Chase Sapphire offer. You were actually the first of all the blogs I read (several big dogs) to post this and now all have followed suit.

I applied right away (as I never had this card but do have 3 other Chase cards) 6/19. Called 6/20 morning for approval. Got approved. Sent secure message through my online account around 5:30 p.m. PST. Did not hear back until about 6:00 a.m. the next morning. But it was a great morning to wake up to that email. 50,000 points were deposited into my account and it says they will be reflected on my first statement. Granted I cannot even view these points yet because the account hasn’t even appeared online with my other 3 Chase cards. But I have no fears that they are there because I have the email in my Chase inbox should I need it. Doubt it though! I’m pretty confident in their customer service.

Well, I hope this information could be helpful for others that are wondering if it can be done. OH YEAH!!! SO VERY EXCITED!!! What should Momma do with her points or maybe I should just take the $1000 cash and go shopping!!! Hmmm!!! Travel or Shopping!!! Hard to decide.

  21. @Faith – Thanks for your kind words, and I’m glad you got 100,000 miles. By all working together we can earn many more miles!

  22. I am a newbie at all of this as well, but after reading all of these blogs, thought I’d try my hand at the S6V offer. I was approved for the card just today for the 50K offer (fairly new customer of Chase for 3 months, this being my 2nd card). I sent a secure message stating how pleased I was with their bank and their service. Anyway, I asked politely for the S6V offer and was denied. I believe they’ve had too many requests for this offer from non-targeted customers. Here’s the response: “Please note that the offer was an acquisition test offer only and was sent to a select customers through direct mail.” and “If you were sent an invitation for this offer, I kindly request you to reply to this email with the offer code and the invitation number”. I suppose I shall be content with the 50K offer I signed up for!

  23. @HeatherJA – Sorry it didn’t work out & thanks for the update! These types of bonuses die quickly, so you have to jump on them quick!

  24. Israel Husarsky

I just throughly read the Fat Wallet post regarding this.

Firstly, it is claear that Chsae is not doing the upgrade anymore.
secondly, if you read the post closely from the one wo was targeted, he says that he does charge alot with his cards but he did NOT have a Chase card – This makes me think the target was non- chase holders.
Thirdly, his post had a copy of the offer with the actual invitation number not only SGV.

i CALLED THE NUMBER ON THE OFFER BUT WHEN i GAVE THEM MY NAME AND OFFER NUMBER THEY SAID THE NAME HAS TO MATCH THE OFFER NUMBER.
I also tried the website on the offer, putting in the offer number and name and it was rejected.

I will probably hold out for a few more weeks since everyone is bumping up the offers now.

AA has 60,000 without any special links right on the Citi website which is double what it used to be.

I figure the 50,000 chase offer will be around for a while.

  25. @Israel Husarsky – You are absolutely right that Chase is no longer giving folks an additional 50,000 points. I also agree with you that Chase might increase the bonus in the future for the Sapphire Preferred card, so it might be better to wait for a little bit. BTW, there are links to Citi 75,000 AAdvantage mile offers in the “Hot Deals” menu of the bog.

    Thanks again for sharing!

  26. I just received the offer for the 100k points–I am trying to figure out what the catch is–seems like a pretty good deal. We have been Visa Signature customers and fans for years, but hard to turn down 100k points!

  27. @Kris – I don’t think there is a catch! Chase probably wants your business, and 100,000 points is a great way to get you to try out a Chase card.

  28. I received the 100,000 offer a couple months ago, it came in a fancy box, normally I throw the offers away, but I was curious and opened it. It stated that I would receive 100,000 pts after spending 500$ in the first 3 months. I could not find any catches so i sent it in. They are targeting certain people and I did not have a Chase card before. I have very good credit and never responded to any of their previous offers.
So it worked for them and got me, my wife says she gets compliments from merchants on it

  29. @Chris – The card is pretty funky looking, isn’t? I don’t think I’ll be getting one since I’ve had an account with Chase for a long time! Thanks for sharing.

  30. I currently have an old Chase United Mileage Plus Visa Signature credit card that I use for all my purchases. After reading your blogs (re: Chase and their restrictions, bonuses, etc.), I realize that I can do better. Should I cancel this card and apply for the Sapphire card? And how do you arrange to get targeted? Thanks.

  31. @hawaiian – I deleted your email address because it was visible publicly. The Chase Sapphire card offers a 50K bonus which you can transfer to your United account later. It offers 2X points on travel and dining and 1X points on everything else. It is one of the very few cards for which I would actually pay a fee. Unfortunately, you can’t arrange to get targeted – Chase has to send you the targeted offer.

  32. Hi there,
I have a chase freedom card and BOA card and I’m very tempted to apply for the Chase sapphire preferred to get the bonus. I have two questions. Will I be approved since I was approved 6 months ago for the chase freedom? and should I wait and not apply perhaps Chase will up the bonus points? what do you think?

  33. I just called trying to get it as well i recently got approved for the spend $3000 and get 50,000 points on the sapphire preferred card. They said unless i got the invitation in the mail thats the only way they would give me the additional 50,000 points. I was however granted 2,000 points for calling in aka $20 never hurts to try and i urge everyone to call in!!

  34. Hi there,

I recently got approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and thought there’s no harm asking for the additional 50k. To my dismay, the personal banker said that it was targeted and that I won’t be able to get it. I sent him an email saying that it’s disappointing and that I have been a loyal Chase customer for quite some time.

    Let’s see what he says!

  35. any chance this may still work?!
